Do you have a towelling robe for after showers, a fleece one for lounging or both? How much do you use them?

Thank you for helping me make very important decisions about what dressing gown(s) I want!

I think I might be the only person on here who doesn’t own a dressing gown! I just don’t get the love. Totally impractical and just get in the way so I put a hoodie on instead. I get that this isn’t a popular view though!

I technically own one, though passed on to DS who doesn't wear it either. I don't understand why they don't have cuffs on the sleeves, they also are also awkward on the loo!

I have several dressing gowns…
I wear my fleece one over jogging bottoms and cotton top all day in Winter, until I get ready to go out.
Cotton one over pyjamas in Summer.
Towelling one after a shower.
Also have a couple of floor length silky kimonos.
I really don’t like being dressed in outdoor clothes while in the house.
My friend, is the opposite and can’t get out of her dressing gown quick enough.🤷‍♀️

For longing i do prefer my oodie to my fleece dressing gown but if I'm not dressed (ie not wearing a bra), I need the dressing gown so I can wrap and tie it tightly to give a bit of support in the chest area.

I've a nice thick towelling one for after bath, from Lakeland if you're looking, really good quality for the price.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 01/01/2023 19:58

No towelling robe for after shower.

No fleece for 'lounging.'

thunderstruckk · 01/01/2023 20:01

Towelling robe for after shower / drying hair / getting ready etc, fluffy dressing gown for relaxing on weekend mornings (breakfast and coffees) before getting dressed. It's a game changer and tbh feels quite fancy having multiple ones 😂

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 01/01/2023 20:01

I went to Morrisons on Christmas Eve.
A number of women were in Oodies, and dressing gowns.

Seems like the new normal now to wear these things all day long.

TitsHerbert · 01/01/2023 20:05

Can anyone recommend a good place for towelling robes? Got a cheapie from eBay a while ago but it's falling to bits

I don't own one either but I'm still reading this thread for some reason!

I just had a bath and got out, dried myself with a towel and put on jogging bottoms, a cotton vest and a wool cardigan.

But I do like the sound of all the lounging people are doing!

QuietYou · 01/01/2023 20:26

I've got a towelling one for going to and from the hot tub.
I find them annoyingly cumbersome for anything else and hate fleece ones as they make me too hot. If I go downstairs in pyjamas which is rare I put a long cardigan on.

whatisforteamum · 01/01/2023 20:43

I've got 7 and it was a joke in my family.
One thin summer one.one midweight fleece for spring.
The rest are thick fleece.Very snuggly.i wear them to go and grab coffee as we have the heating off .
Then after a hot bath to do make up.
I don't own loungewear unless you count my many pjs.🤣

Ilovetocrochet · 01/01/2023 22:49

So glad I am not the only person with loads of dressing gowns! My haul will be going down soon as I’ve decided to throw two away!!

WashAsDelicates · 01/01/2023 18:43

PJs includes nighties. But I agree about the impracticality of the sleeves. Which is why I keep a pair of sleeve garters in the kitchen drawer.

Sleeve garters! Never heard of this before. Did you buy them??

Only a fleece one. Don't see the point of a towelling one!

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 02/01/2023 10:34

I’ve got - um, let’s see:
One towelling poncho-style hooded robe, which I wear straight after bath/shower and while I’m drying my hair, etc.
One Kuddly, worn only when it’s really cold.
Three thin cotton robes, for a bit of modesty in the hotter months.
One very thin cotton kaftan, for when it’s scorchio.
Two thicker, cotton-lined silk dressing gowns. For those in-between months.
One incredibly heavy fluffy fleece dressing gown, a present from DP, which is too hot to wear, ever.

The two I wear most consistently are the towelling robe and the Kuddly. Otherwise it’s mostly hoodies and yoga pants. I really should rationalise the National Dressing Gown Collection.

WinterFoxes · 02/01/2023 10:36

I have both. I live in my fleece one. I don;t really get a lot of use out of my big spa-style towelling gown. If you use it to dry off it smells musty pretty quickly and it's much more of a faff to wash than bath towels. I usually just keep it freshly laundered and offer it to house guests instead!

speakout · 02/01/2023 10:37

I just have a cotton one.
I like to dry myself thoroughly after a shower, so the robe doesn't get wet.
I wear it first thing in the morning to feed the cats and make a coffee.
I don't lounge about in it.
I really dislike keeping my nightwear on during the day- I get dressed as soon as possible in clean comfortable day clothes.

magicstar1 · 02/01/2023 10:38

I have one that’s fleece, but towelling on the inside. It’s the best of both .... dries you well but still cosy.

BettySweaty · 02/01/2023 10:42

Gave up on the towelling ones because they take ages to dry after being washed.

I have 3 fleece ones for every day and a thinner cotton one for summer.

Another huge fan of not getting dressed if I don't have to!! I'm so glad it's not just me 😁

eveoha · 02/01/2023 10:53

Have a lovely White Company ribbed hydrocotton (ebay find) for after shower then bought the M&S versions for Christmas presents lovely highly recommended plus a bargain 🙏🏽☘️

LearnerCook · 02/01/2023 10:58

I have far too many dressing gowns.
Towelling ones for straight out of the shower. I'd never be without those; lovely & warm.
Posh, loungewear ones.
Then some regular ones, mostly the waffle type fabric ones.

NegroniLover · 02/01/2023 11:25

I've just thrown out 2 horrible fleece ones - I can't stand the feel of them & those synthetic fabrics make me sweat.
Dh just bought me a beautiful cotton toweling one for Christmas from PiP Studio & I adore it. I detest looking like a bulky sack of potatoes badly tied around the middle & I just don't find dressing gowns comfy for 'lounging' on the sofa
I wear soft Jersey lounge bottoms & soft hoody style tops for that

My new beautiful toweling dressing gown is hanging on the back of the bathroom door looking beautiful since I got it. I.have tried it on & it's thinner & well cut & far more flattering than the old dumped fleece monstrosities.

In theory I love the idea of wafting about in a beautiful silk kimono style robe but for that I'd need suitable pj's/ nightdress underneath & I'm not sure I'll ever be that organised. Plus I sleep in a vest & knickers or just the vest. I could never wear pj bottoms in bed & nightdresses just bunch up uncomfortably.

NegroniLover · 02/01/2023 11:27

For those of you with multiple dressing gowns - where do you store them all?
I find them v bulky to store

PinkHeadphones · 02/01/2023 11:32

Both, towelling one I put on when I get out of the shower or bath, use it every day.
Fleecy dressing gown I put on top of my pyjamas when I go downstairs in the morning as the house is cold, and also wear it in the evening after I have put my PJs on, to watch TV. Again because I’d be too cold in just pyjamas.
I also have two lightweight dressing gowns, a long one and a short one, which I wear in summer after I’ve got up but before I’ve got dressed, , because I might just be sleeping in a vest and pants. They are not bulky to store.

Todaynotalways · 02/01/2023 11:40

I don't have a toweling one, I like to either be wet or dry, that state of half dry is not comfortable.

I have three dressing gowns + a long cardigan.

  1. Very light cotton for summer (ancient, from White Company).
  2. Fleecy, cheap, but warm (TK Maxx).
  3. Double layer cotton (Toast).

The cardi is oversized, grey and down to my knees. I don't cook in it, too much of a flappy fire hazard.

Mine are all hung up on over the door hangers, three in the bathroom over the airing cupboard door and four in my bedroom. I live alone so don’t have to share the space!
