Do you have a towelling robe for after showers, a fleece one for lounging or both? How much do you use them?

Thank you for helping me make very important decisions about what dressing gown(s) I want!

Both. I pretty much live in my fleecy robes, and have 2 of them. My towelling robe is for if I have time to lounge post-shower, after a brief dry with a towel. I definitely recommend hooded.

Cocolapew · 01/01/2023 16:29

I wear my towlling robe after my shower while I do my make up.
I have a leopard print fleecy snuddie from Primark I use as my main dressing gown now, and would live in it if I could.
The fleecy pull on ones are much better than a towelling dressing gown with a belt.

DolphinNosePotato1 · 01/01/2023 16:31

I use both of mine daily. I use a towelling one when I get out of the shower and will wear my fleecy one when I get up in the morning over my pyjamas before I have a shower or sometimes in the evening if it’s particularly cold.

WaitingForSummertime · 01/01/2023 16:33

I just have a towelling one. But, I wouldn't wear one for deliberate "lounging", I'd just put on a hoodie.

Stressybetty · 01/01/2023 16:37

I have a hooded towelling robe from la Redoute which dries me really well after a shower. I don't use a normal dressing gown

DeathMetalMum · 01/01/2023 16:40

Both. Towelling after baths. Dressing gown when I get up in the morning or in the evening after a bath, only ever on top of pyjamas.

Oldraver · 01/01/2023 16:42

I have both and sine thinner summer robes

While the fleecy is warm and comforting, I do find the a little sweaty

So if h had to have just one, it would be a good quality towelling robe

HideyHoe · 01/01/2023 16:43

I have both as I can't bear the feeling of damp skin and fleece.
I use the towel robe when I'm doing hair or skin treatments and either will need to get back in the shower to rinse off or they are too messy to get dressed for. It's very useful when I need to get something from the dryer straight out of the shower. A towel is just not the same as it could open and fall when I'm walking up and down the stairs. I use the fluffy robe as an extra layer for warmth and chilling at home everyday and the towel one maybe 2-3 times a week as that's how often I do treatments. I still use a bath sheet to dry off before wearing the towelling robe as I don't feel the towelling robe dries me efficiently but in the height of summer that's less of an issue.

Definitely worth getting both. Why did I make life harder than it needs to be struggling to keep a towel up.

Cimafunky · 01/01/2023 16:46

Yes toweling for after a shower and a fleece for lounging.

ThreeRingCircus · 01/01/2023 16:46

I swapped my fluffy dressing gown a few years ago for hooded blanket style things (Oodie for when I'm very cold, thinner one from Dunelm for most of the time.) They're much more convenient than dressing gowns IMO as there's no faffing with the belt.

Then again hearing there are towelling hoodies with hoods I may have to invest in one of those as well for after showers!

Catspyjamas17 · 01/01/2023 16:50

Both, plus a satin kimono to take on holidays/wear when it's warm. I just use the towelling one when I do my roots, otherwise I dry myself with a towel then wear the fleece one while I dry my hair etc.

Catspyjamas17 · 01/01/2023 16:51

I don't lounge in any though as I prefer to just get dressed.

I have a towel robe for use after the hot tub or baths, and a nice waffle robe for general lounging

Athenen0ctua · 01/01/2023 17:22

Neither. I like to towel dry myself then get dressed straight away. I prefer a jumper or hoodie or both for around the house. I had a fleece dressing gown thst I gave to DS but he wears his fake oodie now.

Athenen0ctua · 01/01/2023 17:24

I don't understand walking around the house in a towel except in an emergency when I need something to wear off the drying rack. I just dry myself in the bathroom.

Toweling robe used after every single shower.

I have a few of thin cotton robes without ties. Basically long cardigans made of cotton vest material. A couple have hoods. I tend to break those out when I’m not feeling well. If DH walks into a room and sees me with the hood up, he knows it’s really bad.

WashAsDelicates · 01/01/2023 17:57

I have a toweling one and a cotton jersey one. I would never were a fleece robe - the static! Urgh.

I wear mine according to how cold or warm I am. Most of the year I wear the cotton jersey robe, but in the winter I'm more likely to wear the towelling robe.

I wear my robes if I'm out of bed in PJs or undressed. At any time of day. Robes are suitable but not a requirement for sofa-lounging. For sofa-lounging I'll only be in my robe if I'm not dressed.

DelphiniumBlue · 01/01/2023 18:13

I've stopped using them at all, they all have sleeves that dip into things inconveniently.
I'm either in bed in my nightdress, and I'll put on a hoody or cardigan if I come down to get tea and then go back to bed, or if I'm not planning to go back to bed I'll be in leggings/joggers with a hoody/jumper.
If I've had a shower I dry off straight away and then put on clothes.
So no real opportunity to wear a dressing gown. Shame really because I've got 4 but I've not found them practical since I had DC (30 years ago!) I don't wear pyjamas, so maybe that's connected?

WashAsDelicates · 01/01/2023 18:43

PJs includes nighties. But I agree about the impracticality of the sleeves. Which is why I keep a pair of sleeve garters in the kitchen drawer.

Ilovetocrochet · 01/01/2023 19:05

I’ve just worked out that I have seven dressing gowns!

I use a towelling one after every shower instead of a towel and have another towelling one which is a bit small and worn.

I have two thin summer ones, a lovely satin one which is currently in my hospital bag ( in case I get carried off in an ambulance as I live alone!) and a cotton jersey one, rarely worn though.

I have a bed jacket type one, waist length, which I wear if sitting up in bed on a cold evening.

I have a really soft hooded one, mid thigh length, which I wear in the winter when I first get up or if I have visitors staying. I have another, slightly shorter one which was a free gift from Cotton Traders but I never wear it, I use it to trap my bedroom door open overnight as the breeze from the open window makes the door rattle!

I think it’s time to get rid of a few of them having written this!

RoseMartha · 01/01/2023 19:30

I wear my towelling robe when I get out the shower. My fleece one I wear first thing in the morning when I get up or after I have changed for bed and not ready to get into bed and am pottering about.

Shodan · 01/01/2023 19:44

Apparently, I have too many dressing gowns.

I disagree, as they all serve a purpose.

I have two towelling robes- one is very old and ratty, but excellent at absorbing water, so that goes on straight out of the bath. Unless it's warmer in the house, in which case the cotton waffle robe goes on.

Then the nicer towelling one goes on after moisturising, because anything made of man-made fibres makes me sweat if I put it on too soon after bath/moisturiser.

After half an hour or so I'll put on nightie and dressing gown, or fleece men's pj trousers and a big men's fleece lounge top.

I also have several summer-weight ones, short and long, for various post-bath/shower situations, including a beautiful navy blue shorty one, for which I have been on the hunt for a matching chemise nighty for years.

Namechangedforspooky · 01/01/2023 19:49

I think I might be the only person on here who doesn’t own a dressing gown! I just don’t get the love. Totally impractical and just get in the way so I put a hoodie on instead. I get that this isn’t a popular view though!
