Cost of London Fireworks

Fabulous as they are to watch, I wonder how much those fireworks cost? People are struggling to heat their homes or buy enough food. It doesn’t really sit well with me this year.

They were amazing. Even in hard times we still need to celebrate things and it's not like we would get the money anyway!

stormy11 · 01/01/2023 00:28

By we I mean the public/people in need.

Miserable buggers. They were great, and I loved the tribute to the Queen and the way her coin morphed into Charles’.

Nothing miserable about me. I think an awful lot more could be done with the money than fireworks. Drone shows for one.

cakeorwine · 01/01/2023 00:29

They were ok. But I've got a bit bored with fireworks displays now.

Loved the drones last year - thought they were really good.

Pearl664 · 01/01/2023 00:30

Oh for goodness sake. Some people would have us all wearing sackcloth and ashes. A bit of joy and brightness to celebrate a new, and hopefully better, year isn't a bad thing.

Happy new year everyone!

CaroleFuckingBaskin · 01/01/2023 00:30

Loved them, the best yet!

4thtimeunlucky · 01/01/2023 00:31

Lol. We had the same conversation here.- how much do they cost and aren't they really climate unfriendly....but I still love them

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/01/2023 00:32

Fun is important.🎇🎆🎇

AnneLovesGilbert · 01/01/2023 00:33

Best NYE for fireworks and music in years! Better than the cringe fest of last year, really joyful Alf beautiful. Loved it.

Mine too.

Pearl664 · 01/01/2023 00:35

I miss the Queen. Felt sad hearing her voice. We won't see her like again.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 01/01/2023 00:35

I'm with you OP,I think it's an obscene waste of money.

EasterIssland · 01/01/2023 00:37

COVID last year
cost of living this one
and im sure something will happen in 2023’ that by 2024 we’ll be wondering whether they should have been hosted. There is always reasons not to … but it’s good to celebrate happy news taking into account we’re surrounded by so many sad news ….

ModeWeasel · 01/01/2023 00:37

Right, @ShillyShallySherbet ? Makes no sense at all to be sending messages against climate change by the medium of fireworks!

FancyFanny · 01/01/2023 00:38

Blah blah blah...

There has always been people struggling and always will be!

lkanbum · 01/01/2023 00:41

Let's all just give up on life sit inside in the dark and do nothing fun! Would you be happy then OP?

XanaduKira · 01/01/2023 00:41

Whatnextarghhhhhh · 01/01/2023 00:18

I think it’s great to see New Year celebrations after the covid restrictions of recent years.

Me too! Plus I'm enjoying Sam Ryder Grin

PinkPanther50 · 01/01/2023 00:43

The people watching in certain areas have paid £15 each so that will offset a but if the cost. I personally love it

pinkfondu · 01/01/2023 00:44

Op are you professional offended I wonder. I had champagne with my dinner does that offend you?

fortifiedwithtea · 01/01/2023 00:45

The display was spectacular as it should be. Those images would have been broadcast around the world great advertising for London.

Or would the OP have preferred the PM wave a single sparkler on the steps of number 10 at midnight 🙄

The drones are always amazing. I remember sobbing my way through the 2020/21 show that was all about the pandemic.

Yep, I remember the same. A lot has happened this year but the celebration of the display this year was much needed.

Was lovely!

Do people really think we would have benefited in any way if the fireworks budget had been scrapped?

Adultchildofelderlyparents · 01/01/2023 00:48

It costs £1.5 million, a large part of that is funded by ticket sales with the rest coming from the Mayor's office, so funded by London tax payers. No doubt it generated a lot of revenue for the tourism and hospitality industries though, who have really struggled in recent years.
Personally, I think they should reduce the number of fireworks and make more use of lights and drones.
