Just say, you came into £1000 but had to spend it and not save it, what would you do with it?

"Came into" a thousand quid? It's not exactly a fortune!

It is for some people, don't be such a batch

Hawkins001 · 31/12/2022 10:07

500 gas
500 electricity

LindaEllen · 31/12/2022 10:23

I'd have to pay off the credit card, unfortunately. Well, pay some of it off, to be fair £1,000 wouldn't touch the sides.

What a horrible, bitchy comment. Shame on you.

BrutusMcDogface · 31/12/2022 10:41

to answer the question, I’ve just received similar and have used it to pay off my overdraft. I’m determined to live within my means from now on.

Hotsweatymomspagetti · 31/12/2022 10:46

Mortgage overpayment but if that counts as a bill then maybe a holiday to Center parcs or a night away in a hotel with a spa

NoSquirrels · 31/12/2022 10:47

But a new MacBook, as mine has just died and I can’t do freelance work without it. Bastard machine.

It is if you’ve got £0, or less.

glamourousindierockandroll · 31/12/2022 10:54

Not sure why you can't save it, because that is the only thing I'd want to do with that if I had money worries.

SuperPup86 · 31/12/2022 10:57

Ideally I'd save it - could I buy premium bonds or is that cheating?

If I absolutely had to spend it, it would go towards a holiday abroad in August. We're currently deciding whether to say fuck it and book or whether we'd be really silly to...an extra grand dropping in my lap would tip the scales in favour of booking.

Theimpossiblegirl · 31/12/2022 11:01

If money is tight but you have kids, why not book a few days at a caravan for the summer? Something to look forward to.

For me it would seem like a fortune. I’ve never even had half of that just to spend on whatever I like in my life.

Changes17 · 31/12/2022 11:08

I’d pay off the credit card, but having read your update, maybe buy something that will make a lasting impact to your life - whether that’s a kitchen gadget, a really good coat that will last years, something really warm or something else. Or save it so you have something to fall back on. For me, premium bonds are easy to save into but just hard enough to get money out of that you don’t automatically dip into them.

SpikeGilesSandwich · 31/12/2022 11:27

I'd love a weekend away, just me, no DH, no DC, bliss! Not going to happen but I can dream...

ThePoshUns · 31/12/2022 11:28

A nice piece of jewellery
A long weekend away
A handbag
A leather jacket or nice coat

Needmorelego · 31/12/2022 11:59

Would it be enough for an intensive driving lesson course and cheap secondhand car ?
Cos I would do that.

mamaduckbone · 31/12/2022 14:34

My first instinct was a night or two away, but actually probably something for the house - a print or a new coffee table.

This happened to me when I unexpectedly was left £1k in a will. I felt it inappropriate to pay bills with it and wanted somehow to remember the person.

So I bought a puppy. Twelve years later and lots of love and fun, he is currently begging for my morning biscuit I'm having with my tea Smile

Oh this is such a lovely way to remember your lost loved one every day!

How rude! It's a wonderful amount for lots of people!

Wheredoallthepensgo · 31/12/2022 14:59

Being sensible I'd get us a new mattress and some lovely bedding. It's well overdue being updated.

Or pay a cleaner for as long as £1000 would last, would free up time which is very valuable to me at the moment.

Being frivolous, a gorgeous handbag and some beauty treatments.

It might not be life changing or a fortnight in the sun sort of money, but its enough to make a difference to someone's life, particularly if they are on the breadline with little luxuries.

I still think a musical instrument, guitar, keyboard, piano or hobby stuff something that will give many years of enjoyment.

IHeartGeneHunt · 31/12/2022 15:02

I'd buy a shed. An insulated shed with shelves and big windows and a comfy chair, a little gas camping stove, and a whistling kettle.

MirrorMirror1247 · 31/12/2022 15:04

A PS5, and the rest towards redecorating my flat.

Notanotherone123 · 31/12/2022 15:13

I need new sofas, so that

Bluevelvetsofa · 31/12/2022 15:23

Pay someone to decorate the stairs and landing. We’ve done the hall, but the stairs is just too much.
