Just say, you came into £1000 but had to spend it and not save it, what would you do with it?

I’d buy some new white goods for our bathroom!

MinnieMountain · 31/12/2022 07:56

I’d buy a painting. I’ve mainly got prints, so it would be lovely to own an original.

Mollymalone123 · 31/12/2022 07:58

I’d buy an antique or piece of jewellery

RocketIceLollie · 31/12/2022 08:03

Get a new mattress for our bed.

ilovebagpuss · 31/12/2022 08:07

Trip to London for 4 and see a few shows with the DD's. Or long weekend city break I reckon I could bring that in under 1000 if I got a good deal on flights and air bnb place.

Squarerootofpi · 31/12/2022 08:10

A health MOT from Nuffield. I think they ar@e about £800 so I'd have just enough left for lunch in the cafe afterwards 😁

FlamingJingleBells · 31/12/2022 08:10

I’d buy shares and stocks, hopefully an investments that will keep giving or a new sofa.

HideyHoe · 31/12/2022 08:15

Aww bless you. I was considering overpaying my energy but this money is the result of a very stressful situation, including having to scrimp and save for a couple of years until resolved. So I was wanting to do something less practical to lift the pressure off!

but I also can’t bring myself to think it’s worth spending on anything thanks to cost of living!

Taking the pressure off for me would involve not spending it - the cushion of having that money to hand if I needed it would make me feel better than any object or experience.

Kalasbyxor · 31/12/2022 08:33

Put it toward an annoying but increasingly urgent repair in the bathroom.

If not the bathroom repair, and there was no cost of living crisis to take into account, I would either spend it on family festival tickets for two favourite summer festivals OR some music production equipment.

Daydreamer22 · 31/12/2022 08:35

Holiday!

dormouses · 31/12/2022 08:37

A couple of paddle boards, a new washing machine and a decent haircut.

Didicat · 31/12/2022 08:55

Well I’d love a new alto saxophone, however I am pretty sure washing machine is on last legs to be fair it’s 10 years old……

also I keep saying a catio for my indoor cats but money just seems to disappear at the moment

my grandad gave me money every birthday and Christmas and up until a few years ago it got frittered away with nothing to show for it. In the last few years I used it to buy furniture, best crockery etc… I lost him recently and it’s nice to look at what he gave me.

Alarae · 31/12/2022 09:03

Technically done this a few months ago, but bought the new iPhone Pro.

Bought it basically for the camera as I love taking photos on my phone (not a separate camera person).

It is a waste of money to some but I've absolutely loved it. The pictures and videos are fantastic and my DD loves going through them.

If it wasn't the phone, I would use it for a holiday Smile

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 31/12/2022 09:08

Weekend away

SweetSakura · 31/12/2022 09:11

I would.do 20-50% on something fun eg. A weekend away

And then something more practical with the rest, either putting it away in savings or overpaying the mortgage or doing some jobs to the house.

If I really had to spend it all on something then I think it would be a holiday/short break. Or perhaps a series of things to look forward to spread out over the year? So a weekend away , tickets to a show, a spa day, a fun activity (I like the look of zip world!), So that I would know there were doing to be moments of fun all year long

felulageller · 31/12/2022 09:24

Invest it in modern art. It's the best investment ATM. And also looks nice!

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 31/12/2022 09:25

@PoseyFlump oh that's lovely! Definitely the gift that keeps on giving.

If I had £1000 that needed to be spent I'd either spend it on a holiday for me and DS or I'd spend it on replacing all the bits around the house that my ex DP bought and now wants to take away. Not very exciting but things like the Nest and the hoover etc (I really hope he enjoys them at his Ma's house 🙄).

mondaytosunday · 31/12/2022 09:59

Well I've just paid a massive service charge bill (it used to be monthly but now they want it up front by January 1) and of course tax bill end of January. So £1000 will be in and out of my account on bills almost immediately!
If I didn't have that and had to spend it on something 'frivolous', I'd get a cleaner to come every other week. That's not really frivolous though!

Enko · 31/12/2022 10:01

I would apply for British citizenship I could manage the last 250 I think.

YouremywifenowTubs · 31/12/2022 10:02

I’d treat my wonderful children for once. I’d love to give my 8 year old dd £100 and tell her she can buy as many pens as she likes with it.

Then I would get my hair cut for the first time in years.

Then I’d replace my clothes as they all have bloody holes in.

"Came into" a thousand quid? It's not exactly a fortune!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 31/12/2022 10:05

One or more of the following:

A new kitchen table and chairs.

A really nice piece of furniture for the hall
Thermally lined curtains for our bedroom
A new back door

We've just moved house and there's a lot of stuff that needs doing in our new place

MeMyBooksAndMyCats · 31/12/2022 10:05

To you, perhaps. To some people it would feel like a huge windfall
