Prime drinks - am I missing something?

As a parent of teens, I am aware of Logan Paul, KSI and this drink they are touting (our local post office are selling it at £5 per bottle).
Just caught some news online and see people are going berserk in Aldi stores, trying to purchase this stuff, like their lives depended on it.
It’s just coconut water, flavourings and artificial sweeteners ffs, what is wrong with people?
I know this sort of thing isn’t new (I’m old enough to remember people going crazy trying to buy Cabbage Patch Dolls!) but honestly, I just don’t get it.
I have never bought into this sort of crap, if I need something I will get it when I need it. I certainly don’t need some kind of ‘influencer’ to tell me I’m less of a human being if I don’t go on a stampede and purchase their shit.
And looking at the video clips I see many of these people are not young kids either. I’m sure if dog shit became fashionable these people would break their backs trying to hunt some down lol!
I am honestly baffled by life and human behaviour at times, we have parts of the world where people are starving and drinking putrid water then in the West others going dolally trying to bust a gut tracking down some drink which probably tastes like shit anyhow.
Madness!

While I'm not invested in the whole Prime hoo-ha either, I also don't get the need to write snooty posts online about the people queuing for it. I mean, there are all sorts of reasons they might be doing it. Maybe it's because they're financially strapped and can make some decent money selling it on. Maybe it's because this is one low-cost thing that is guaranteed to make their DC happy. Maybe they're up anyway, so it makes no odds if they queue outside a shop for an extra the minutes.

Bit of a stretch to pronounce yourself superior to every single person in that queue. I'm sure you do things that they think are ridiculous as well.

I think it is a bit of a stretch to say the OP was pronouncing themselves superior.

It’s just a craze. They don’t really make any sense but they have always happened and will always happen.

It’s absolutely out of order for people to be violent towards one another over a bottle of water (or anything similar) but other than that is it doing anyone any harm?

I don’t see that it is that different from other crazes that have been and gone over the generations. People will queue for the latest iPhone or certain trainers etc. It’s a bit silly but it’s not hurting anyone!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 31/12/2022 09:05

@PineCone74 she's called them idiots, laughed at them, speculated that they would half kill themselves trying to buy dog shit if it became fashionable, asked what is 'wrong' with them, and has explained (repeatedly and in detail) why she and her kids would never buy in to this 'madness'. It's all just a bit sneery and unnecessary.

JesusInTheCabbageVan I am entitled to an opinion and I stand by my words, I do think people are crazy buying into these kind of things. That doesn’t not make me ‘sneery’, I am a working class carer not someone sitting up on their high horse looking down at folk, it’s just my opinion, of which I am fully entitled too just as you are entitled to yours. But I have been on MN for many years and know that someone, somewhere down the line will always be offended, whatever the subject is being discussed. I take it on the chin but you won’t get me to change my mind on such madness.

I'm not trying to get you to change your opinion. I'm just making the point that it's a needlessly sneery and judgy thread. I happen to agree that it's bonkers, but I don't get the need to mock people when you have no idea as to their individual circumstances. Just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

You don't have to change your mind. Just let people be though and stop sneering At them?

CaraVann · 31/12/2022 19:16

Definitely NOT sneering!

OP posts:
Alarmclockstop · 31/12/2022 21:19

Sneery - contemptuous or scornful; inclined to be dismissive

Contemptuous- manifesting, feeling, or expressing deep hatred or disapproval

Smug - having or showing an excessive pride in oneself or one's achievements

Just in case you don't know the meaning OP. I agree with Jesus (now that's a sentence I didn't expect to write)

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 01/01/2023 09:05

@Alarmclockstop Grin

@CaraVann I'm sure you didn't mean to sound sneery, but that is how it came across I'm afraid.

Isn't Logan Paul an absolute tosser? Why is anyone endorsing this shite?

This.

footiemum3 · 01/01/2023 09:34

I have 3 young teen boys who have wanted to try it for ages but I’ve told them not to get sucked in and pay £10 a bottle, which they haven’t done. When I saw it was going on sale at Aldi I said I’d take them down to try and get some, knew it would be busy so got down to Aldi for 7.30, opened at 8, got their 2 bottles each paid for and home by 8.20. I gave up 1 hour of my time for something that made my boys happy. They now get to say they tried it and don’t need to think about paying extortionate prices. Everyone happy. Don’t get the hype but they are kids doing no one any harm.
