Prime drinks - am I missing something?

As a parent of teens, I am aware of Logan Paul, KSI and this drink they are touting (our local post office are selling it at £5 per bottle).
Just caught some news online and see people are going berserk in Aldi stores, trying to purchase this stuff, like their lives depended on it.
It’s just coconut water, flavourings and artificial sweeteners ffs, what is wrong with people?
I know this sort of thing isn’t new (I’m old enough to remember people going crazy trying to buy Cabbage Patch Dolls!) but honestly, I just don’t get it.
I have never bought into this sort of crap, if I need something I will get it when I need it. I certainly don’t need some kind of ‘influencer’ to tell me I’m less of a human being if I don’t go on a stampede and purchase their shit.
And looking at the video clips I see many of these people are not young kids either. I’m sure if dog shit became fashionable these people would break their backs trying to hunt some down lol!
I am honestly baffled by life and human behaviour at times, we have parts of the world where people are starving and drinking putrid water then in the West others going dolally trying to bust a gut tracking down some drink which probably tastes like shit anyhow.
Madness!

Can’t understand why parents are enabling the kids in this.

Heatherbell1978 · 29/12/2022 19:18

I also don't get it OP and roll my eyes that people are actually going out of their way to buy this shit. My DC are young but trust me if they were teens into this they'd be told to go queue themselves at Aldi at 8am.

CaraVann · 29/12/2022 19:35

Even if my kids were younger, I wouldn’t (and didn’t) buy into crap like this and I’m a usually a complete pushover mum! But obviously many, many do and this is why these influencers make millions out of parents busting their guts pandering to their kids obsessions.

Sad...fighting over some fizzy drink....a poor reflection of people and priorities !

listsandbudgets · 29/12/2022 19:46

@KenAdams Sorry my daughter and her friends were some of those queing up for the chippy!! I was utterly bemused!! 😂

glittermoomoo · 29/12/2022 19:46

Some people like to buy things and take part in crazes.

It has ever been thus.

Don't judge them sneeringly.

Luckycatt · 29/12/2022 20:37

What an unpleasantly sneers thread. What does it matter to you whether people buy a drink or not?

Hmmm...it also says on google 'not suitable for children'. My daughters secondary banned it and confiscated any bottles found on students.

Was the chippy selling this drink or does it just have amazing chips?! I need to know!

Anyway, hoping Aldi have sold all their stock of it and things calm down as I'm running out of protein mousse....

Always4Brenner · 29/12/2022 20:43

The mind boggles never heard of this drink and the price of it shocking.

GraceAnatomy · 29/12/2022 20:43

First walmart stop in Orlando, my 12 year old spotted it. Never heard of it before she asked if she could get some for her and 15y/o. Sure, fire it in the trolley, she chose 4 flavours, and every single one of them was yucky. I'm not sure what they were expecting but it's not very flavoursome.

It's a fad, I'm sure as soon as its stocked regularly in Asda the desire will fade. And they'll all stop pretending its really really nice. It'll be yellow stickered in reduced to clear by this time next year.

Pelo22 · 29/12/2022 20:44

@TitsInAbsentia getting the protein mousse is bad enough sometimes! My dad is well trained to pick up a couple if he sees them

NancyJoan · 29/12/2022 20:47

Why were there queues at a chippy??

Someo · 29/12/2022 20:48

Can confirm I finally got my hands on a protein mousse the other day. Their supply must be back up and running.

As for the drinks. Will be old news soon. Hype soon dies down. Thankfully.

Gonna guess the chippy was Binley? 😅

This basically. 👆

'B*** Mega Chippy'

Honestly I hate it when adults think they are better than kids, crazes are part of life, cabbage patch, pogs, tamogotchi, furbys, loom bands, fidget spinner, Prime. It's all fun, it matters to them and that's OK, it's part of growing up

FoxCorner · 29/12/2022 20:55

It's not pathetic parenting to go out of your way to buy something for £2 for a ten year old that they desperately want. If they were demanding something for £1000 then maybe.

Lovetotravel123 · 29/12/2022 20:58

It’s a huge PR stunt and although my son wants to try it I have explained that it’s not worth spending time or money on. Luckily he is sensible enough to understand.

Babyroobs · 29/12/2022 21:00

It's just a drink , people are crazy.

Yes but these are actual things to keep, not a drink !

Alarmclockstop · 29/12/2022 21:03

@Lovetotravel123 not worth £1.99 to you maybe but it is to the kids. Yes it is PR, yes it is vile , but really what harm is there. More learning by experiencing the crap product than by parent deciding what is worthwhile.

It's not the drink it's the bottle they want. And any way no one keeps any of those crazes.

FoxCorner · 29/12/2022 21:07

PeekAtYou · 29/12/2022 19:10

I think it's more 8-12 year olds who are into this.
My 16yo got to try one courtesy of a friend whose dad managed to get a case and says that Lucozade Sport is better.

Yes it's more pre teens. The people patting themselves on the back that their teens are too sensible to be interested are barking up the wrong tree 😀

Mouldyfoodhelp · 29/12/2022 21:13

I'm 30 and want to try it due to the hype and through different people seen differebt videos of KSI, but I won't be paying 5-20 quid for it. There's always been crazes and generally it's always tat as children we all probably participated in one and I don't understand why this is different.

Better drinking prime than doing that stupid craze which started on FB years ago that started downing beer but people took it to extremes and were blending all sorts if disgusting things including small dead animal's.
