If you're not having 'traditional' Christmas dinner...

We're not having a traditional Christmas dinner until tomorrow when all the relatives can get here. So today we're having a fairly ordinary (but hopefully still nice) dinner of garlic and Rosemary chicken, potato Dauphinoise and honey carrots. Probs just have ice cream for pud and no doubt graze our way through a bucketload of sweets. Will be cooking big Christmas dinner tomorrow instead.

If you're not having a 'typical' Christmas dinner today, what will you be having?

I’m going to roast a chicken, roast lots of potatoes and have cobs. In a bowl in front of the tv. There are only 3 of us. 16 year old is currently gorging herself on 3 kg of sweets and chocolate. Can’t see the point in cooking a dinner. Will do a nice roast tomorrow or Tuesday.

Chicken dippers, oven chips and peas. Maybe a mince pie for afters.

I realised 20-odd years ago, when the children were small, that after filling up on crisps and nuts and chocs all day, nobody was up to eating a full roast meal (also, it was always me who got lumbered with prepping and cooking the bloody thing) so I simply stopped doing it. Christmas Day is always much more mellow as a result. 🥳

Roast pheasant and chocolate mousse for dessert.

Meat and potato pie. None of us want to spend the day cooking when we've all got small kids. Can't wait.

babynoname22 · 25/12/2022 10:34

Indian - we are going out for a meal

WildRosie · 25/12/2022 11:22

I'm having a normal everyday lunch then peri peri chicken with rice and stir fried vegetables this evening. Nothing out of the ordinary really.

Purplecatshopaholic · 25/12/2022 11:22

There’s nothing remotely special about traditional Christmas dinner - never have understood why people get so invested. We are having an Indian take away - totally awesome banquet of delights!

IToldYouAmillionTimesAlready · 25/12/2022 11:23

Just the 2 of us for lunh today -

Chicken Rogan Josh with rice, Samosas, Pakoras and naan bread. Lager. Chocolates.

MrsJBaptiste · 25/12/2022 11:24

We're all having what we fancy so 4 different meals (hopefully cooked by 4 different people!)

Friends think that's a pain but why would we sit through a roast nobody wants? Much better to have exactly what we like 😋

SussexBonfireViking · 25/12/2022 11:28

We are having curry from the local restaurant

Bought it yesterday, cooled it off, and will heat up today - yum!!!

BangingOn · 25/12/2022 11:32

We had Christmas dinner yesterday. Today will be M&S party food and a cheeseboard for lunch, then cold turkey/ham with bubble and squeak this evening. It’s so nice not having to rush around cooking today.

PinkBuffalo · 25/12/2022 11:33

I am sitting with mum in the nursing home for a lot of today so have brought a sandwich, grapes, can of Diet Coke and some Pringles and chocolate to have for xmas dinner
I not normally eat whilst I here so at least I eating something today

HangingOver · 25/12/2022 11:34

We just had veggie burgers, new potatoes and asparagus. Way too hot for a roast in Aus today!

Simonjt · 25/12/2022 11:35

I’m yet to have a roast dinner and actually enjoy it, I find them bland, although I don’t mind parsnips roasted in honey.

We had a traditional Swedish christmas dinner yesterday, today we’re having haleem, hoilo garma. bakra and sharkarkandi ki kheer which is a sweet potato based sweet rice pudding

Blanketpolicy · 25/12/2022 11:39

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 25/12/2022 11:44

Christmas dinner tomorrow for us too so we're having quiche, sausage plait, garlic bread tear and share, cheese and pineapple on sticks, crisps, and LOTS of cheese!

MrsJackRackham · 25/12/2022 11:49

Bread, meat and cheese platter for picky lunch then Indian takeaway for dinner. Just me and DP so easy peasy 🙂

Sprintfinish · 25/12/2022 11:54

Chinese takeaway for us. Thank goodness as DS has been poorly so wouldn't have the time or energy to cook. We started getting takeaways as we wanted to enjoy Christmas eve and day out of the kitchen. It has been delightful!

BamBamBilla · 25/12/2022 11:59

Southern fried chicken, wedges, coleslaw and guacamole

CatSeany · 25/12/2022 12:01

We're having Christmas dinner, but secretly I really want to have reheated Indian takeaway! Had my heart set on it, and we were going to, but my partner wavered and wanted to do a Christmas dinner.

This more or less IS our Christmas dinner!!

i have made christmas pudding ice cream though which is chocolate chips, dried fruit, flaked almonds, cherries, chopped up christmas pudding and rum.
