If you're not having 'traditional' Christmas dinner...

We're not having a traditional Christmas dinner until tomorrow when all the relatives can get here. So today we're having a fairly ordinary (but hopefully still nice) dinner of garlic and Rosemary chicken, potato Dauphinoise and honey carrots. Probs just have ice cream for pud and no doubt graze our way through a bucketload of sweets. Will be cooking big Christmas dinner tomorrow instead.

If you're not having a 'typical' Christmas dinner today, what will you be having?

We don't like traditional Xmas dinner. Dh is making paella for lunch then I will make tapas for dinner. We do a different country every year.

Sprig1 · 25/12/2022 12:05

Sweet chilli crispy beef and skinny fries. We are doing Christmas tomorrow and will be having ham.

We just had veggie burgers, new potatoes and asparagus. Way too hot for a roast in Aus today!

We’re holidaying in Aus - we had sandwiches and crisps at the beach - we’re loving it. Can’t see ever doing a traditional Christmas dinner again - it’s overrated.

Frostine · 25/12/2022 12:11

We are vegetarian so a homemade parsnip , pecan, and walnut roast , with the usual accompanying vegetables & roast potatoes , no yorkshires , and doing Jamie Oliver sprout gratin which has spinach in as well.
For the first time ever ( and even as a child would say Christmas pud is the best thing ever ) am not feeling the need for it , so it's a meringue roulade for when we fancy it.

Whatineed · 25/12/2022 12:11

Fondue Chinoise with beef and chicken as the meats.

Ghostlight · 25/12/2022 12:12

Fajitas and nachos
We did 'real' christmas dinner yesterday

Autumnisclose · 25/12/2022 12:13

Slow roast lamb, roast pork, potatoes and veg. We never eat turkey.

FTY765 · 25/12/2022 12:35

I actually don't like a roast dinner at all! If I wasn't going to family I'd rather have a Chinese takeaway (local one is open) or something. I will eat the roast but I won't enjoy it particularly.

RampantIvy · 25/12/2022 12:40

Envious of those who live where takeaways are open.

DD is cooking mushroom wellington, but we are having all the traditional accompaniments with it.

whatsdiswhatsdat · 25/12/2022 12:45

Curry with rice, pakora, poppadums etc etc.

We have a traditional Christmas dinner at a fancy restaurant on Christmas Eve every year. On Christmas Day we have curry and relax at home.

Volterra · 25/12/2022 12:46

We ordered curry last night to have today. Easiest Christmas ever so far which as good as we are all Ill.

FourChimneys · 25/12/2022 12:56

Pasta in a food flask, falafels, banana, chocolate. Will be eaten high up on a hillside though.

Ozgirl75 · 25/12/2022 12:58

I’m in Australia too and we had a lovely BBQ with fillet steak, kingfish, barramundi, crabs, tuna and balmain bugs.

Daffodilis · 25/12/2022 13:04

One of my sons is working and not off till Wednesday so we are having our dinner then. Just having crispy duck and pancakes plus lots of other nice things today.

Trinxsy · 25/12/2022 13:07

An Indian and lots of chocolate for us! Only DP and I would eat a Christmas dinner and we don't see the point in cooking for just us as we're not fussed.

beezlebubnicky · 25/12/2022 13:24

We're making a spread of Spanish tapas that we'll have in the evening. We often do it before Christmas, but we decided to have it instead of the usual pork roast we go with on Christmas Day.

That’s a brilliant idea.

LeoTimmyandVi · 25/12/2022 13:27

Prawn cocktail, followed by steak, chips and pepper sauce then sticky toffee pud and custard - none of us are huge fans of roast so enjoy this meal!

AuntieMarys · 25/12/2022 13:32

Going out to eat Turkish food

SaveMeCheezus · 25/12/2022 13:33

There's only 2 of us and it's not worth faffing about with a massive roast that is neither of our favourite meal, so we're having cheese, charcuterie meats, pickles, a few other bits to graze on throughout the day. Chocolates later.

TeeNoG · 25/12/2022 13:34

Pizza and salad here today, roast dinner tomorrow 😁

newtb · 25/12/2022 13:34

Was supposed to be belly pork braised with orange. Except. I found I'd bought a net of pomelos and not oranges. So put some slices underneath, added garlic and some orange juice. While waiting I've eaten some smoked salmon and am demolishing a pannetone.

FunnysInLaJardin · 25/12/2022 13:42

We are having homemade blinis, smoked salmon, caviar and creme fraiche with proper deep fried chips. And a chocolate log I made yesterday for pudding.

Got sick of spending so long making a roast dinner and tidying up that I didn't really enjoy all of the day.

Will have a roast pork shoulder tomorrow though
