Alcohol question. Yes or no answer, so simple

I rarely drink but thought I would have a hot toddy last night as I am still snotty and coldy.

So I put a decent slug of DHs whisky in some milk with sugar and heated it in the microwave. DH said it was a fair bit gone from his bottle of single malt!

I am super sensitive to alcohol and can get drunk on 2 big glasses of wine (drunk as in vomiting like crazy and falling over)

But this hot milky whisky did nothing and DH says it's because the alcohol was all evaporated in the heating. Is this right?

Whiskey in warm milk and honey is what I have when I’m not well. Not sure it helps, but it tastes nice.

Whisky in warm milk and honey is amazing but you heat the milk first, then slosh the whisky in.

If we want to attract a new generation of whisky drinkers and promote a fantastic Scottish product we need to get rid of the stuffy image that a malt can only be enjoyed straight.

In Asia a younger demographic are enjoying experimenting with the taste profiles of different malts in cocktails and whisky is reaching a new generation.

Let people drink malts any way they want. It is never a waste, there is plenty to go around.

I'm a southerner and have always had a hot toddy made with milk (and single malt or brandy cos it was all he would drink)! Taught to me by my Londoner father!

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 24/12/2022 22:55

Well he taught you incorrectly... milk has no place in a hot toddy...

Awrite · 24/12/2022 23:06

As long as it made you feel better - that's the main thing.

Can't imagine milk in a hot toddy making anyone feel better but that's placebo for you.

fairtrauchled · 24/12/2022 23:10

Never had a hot toddy in my life although I do know it's made with whisky, honey and lemon.I hate whisky(and I'm Scottish !!)

Perihelion · 24/12/2022 23:16

You utter, utter heretic.

AppalachianWoman · 25/12/2022 09:37

Sounds like Sippin Cream! We also have a traditional Irish punch made from whisky and milk.

Aworldofmyown · 25/12/2022 09:42

My mum used to make me brandy, hot milk and honey when i was ill, tasted yum and made me sleep. Definitely questionable now!! It was the 80s 😆

My dad was Irish, so I think I heard it from him.

Also Irish but never heard of this. How do you make it? Google wasn't conclusive at all

Oh @purpledalmation! Was it a lagavulin, Bruichladdich or bunnahabhain? If only wasn't preg I'd be trying @powershowerforanhour experiment too! And now I just want a liqueur after dinner coffee!! Any tips on how to make a non alcoholic one that tastes like a glayva one?

Tamnavgulin? Something like that. I added some honey to the MILK. Tasted a bit better. I shall stop this nonsense when my cold finishes 😀

A single malt is absolutely fine to use in a hot toddy/ mixed drink but you 100% weren’t drinking a hot toddy. 😬 Milk? 🤦‍♀️🙈

Wheredoallthepensgo · 26/12/2022 00:04

A hot toddy is not made with milk. As a Scot, I'm wincing at the waste of a single malt! Much better to make it the traditional way and enjoy the benefits!
But I don't think the microwave would kill off much of the alcohol at all.

MerryShitemas · 26/12/2022 00:07

If your cold doesn't kill you overnight I wouldn't blame DH if he does

TofuonToast · 26/12/2022 00:11

To Mr Purpledalmation… LTB 💐

Have you considered the possibility that you are allergic to wine?
