Watch Tom Kerridge on YouTube. Peel & boil now. Roast in the morning. A.Mazing.

Lenald · 24/12/2022 18:55

Yeah ofc that’s what most restaurant will do.

Soontobe60 · 24/12/2022 18:56

Don’t leave them in water overnight, they’ll go all weird. Par boil now.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 24/12/2022 18:57

If i parboil now but roast in the morning, do they get that 'twice cooked' taste that you get in restaurants when they've reheated their potatoes?

I can always tell a reheated potato. I don't like the taste.

Foxytail · 24/12/2022 18:57

Oh I will do ! Will they go all brown though ?

I've left potatoes in salted water overnight for 25 years. It isn't an issue.
And the carrots.

Twinstudy · 24/12/2022 18:57

I always parboil the night before, spread them out on a tray, cover with cling film and shove them in the fridge ready for roasting tomorrow. Can't be bothered peeling potatoes on Christmas day! Think theyre actually better for this way anyway

WheresMyAlex · 24/12/2022 18:58

You par boil them, dress them in whatever fat you’re using and store the in the fridge/garage over night.

Whattaboutit · 24/12/2022 18:59

Can’t be bothered to watch a YouTube video. Do you have to refrigerate them overnight? I heard this tip on the radio years ago but I usually parboil mine in the morning then tip onto the baking try to cool, then toss in cold oil.

ListenLinda · 24/12/2022 19:01

I always leave them in water overnight, never been anything wrong and I always get compliments on my roasties!

When I do this they always turn black, where am I going wrong?

MrsMorton · 24/12/2022 19:01

You would have watched it by now...

VioletCharlotte · 24/12/2022 19:04

I go one step further and roast them on Christmas Eve along with the parsnips and carrots. I'll stick them in the oven for 15 mins to heat up. It makes Christmas dinner so much less stressful.

Lenald · 24/12/2022 19:06

I wouldn’t parboil this evening.

bizzywiththefizzy · 24/12/2022 19:10

I always peel and chop tonight for tomorrow and leave in a pan of cold water , but you need to wash them really well , as I think it's the starch that can make them go a bit hmm . So I always wash really well and sometimes change the water before bed . I don't par boil until tomorrow .

Agreed

MajorCarolDanvers · 24/12/2022 19:12

Mine are peeled and par boiled.

Half will be roasted and half will be mashed tomorrow

Vavazoom · 24/12/2022 19:12

Parboil today until they starting to go soft around the edges. Drain immediately and then put them in a bowl and toss them in olive oil so they are all covered (stops them going brown). Then tomorrow cook them in beef dripping and make sure it’s nice and hot before they go in. Sublime!!

pinneddownbytabbies · 24/12/2022 19:13

That reminds me - I'd better get cracking, those potatoes aren't going to peel themselves. Xmas Grin

TheUndoing · 24/12/2022 19:19

I always peel mine on Christmas Eve - as long as you cover then in water they’re absolutely fine the next day.

Ineedachangerightnow · 24/12/2022 19:21

I did mine at lunch time and now I'm worried they'll go off by tomorrow. They're sat in a pot of water on the hob ready to go, as is everything hob based. Is that wrong?

clary · 24/12/2022 19:25

Prepped all my veg sitting uncooked in cold water) and stuffed the chicken too. Just cook it in the am. I do this every year. Never had an issue with anything going weird. Love Christmas Eve.

RainBow725 · 24/12/2022 19:25

Just peeled mine and put them in water. As well as the sweet potatoes and parsnips. Always do this.
