Poor family at Xmas eve what it was meant to be a family time to lose their precious child. My heart breaks for them R.I.P.

When I was young at uni I worked at a leisure centre and witnessed an incident, it's very traumatising for the lifeguards and those who do their best first hand but for the family to experience this with their hands tied and lose their precious child must be absolutely devastating. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

We left yesterday after a lovely week. The staff were amazing, but young poolside. I really felt sad for them hearing this dreadful news. I also hope anyone from the public who was able to help is being well looked after. The poor parents :(
The pool felt well managed but I guess a reminder that anything can happen :(

Why? Because I can't fathom being those parents just now and I feel for them. It's headline news on most sites? Same as the lake incident a few weeks back, I can't even imagine what the parents are going through.

I honestly didn't expect people to start blaming the parents given there is absolutely nothing to support the theory, but hey, this is MN.

To be fair they were pretty good but it was busy. It’s a really hard job I’m sure. What a terrible situation to witness.

It doesn't need to be all over the media either imo. I would hate to see that if this were my child or family member. Grief vultures.

It is easy to lose a child in a crowd, it’s easy for a 4 year old to pull out of your hand and run off ahead, they could have slipped and hit their head first. You can drown even when pulled out of water quickly. This would never be anyone’s fault. It’s tragic no matter what the circumstances

GreyCarpet · 25/12/2022 14:18

Grief vultures

That's exactly what it is.

It's possible to empathise privately and in silence without plastering it all over everywhere to show other people how much you care about complete strangers you wouldn't even have known existed if it weren't for this.

If its not intended as condolences for the family then exactly who is it for?

ImustLearn2Cook · 30/12/2022 01:18

@KenAdams I get why you posted this. It is a terrible tragedy and even before the internet existed, people discussed tragedies like this when they saw it on the news.

It’s about processing the tragedy and how you feel about it. There’s nothing wrong with that.

The horrible and judgmental comments on this thread are a reflection of the people who are posting the nasty judgemental comments. It is not a reflection of anyone else, just them.

I don’t think it is a reflection of Mumsnet either. They have tried to deal with the nasty commenters by deleting posts and even commenting on this thread.

This is a platform open for anyone. It’s on the World Wide Web. And it takes all sorts to make this world what it is. Unfortunately we get to see some of the worst come out and display their horrible natures. But we also get to see the best.

RIP for that little boy and my heart goes out to his family. 💐

I absolutely agree. People also very naturally want to understand something so terrible so to avoid it themselves. We were there last week and so for us it seemed even more shocking as it ‘seemed’ so safe
