All adults, but don’t want anything too gory or sexy as watching with elderly parents who wouldn’t enjoy that. Also needs to be entertaining for 27yr old nephew.
Examples of films we have enjoyed together:

Various James Bond
Mask of Zorro
Ocean’s 11
Titanic
It’s a Wonderful life
Miss Congeniality
Bridget Jones’s Diary
Love Actually

Any ideas please for what we can try next?? Even if it’s a well known classic that we’ve ‘probably seen’ we don’t watch much film so still worth suggesting!

Thank you!

Just here to second/third Knives Out, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Eddie the Eagle and Enola Holmes (1&2).
The Adam Project is also great.

SkiingIsHeaven · 20/12/2022 20:21

Planes' Trains and Automobiles.

If you want to do a Christmas movie then for sheer nostalgia :- home alone.

Or go for the best Christmas movie ever :- Die hard.

Red - action comedy with Helen Mirren & Bruce Willis
The Man Who Invented Christmas - British about Dickens writing a Christmas Carol
Hunt for the Wilderpeople is a good film but a bit slow for a family gathering?

Do not choose Bad Santa as suggested by a PP. I did that in error one year.

Greatly · 20/12/2022 21:46

Top gun Maverick. Apparently it's going to be the most streamed film ever on xmas day.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 20/12/2022 21:54

Top Gun Maverick is brilliant

Get Santa

Christmas with the Kranks (brilliant film!!)

Back to the future

Die hard

Elf

The holiday 🥰🥰

lovemelovemesaythatyouloveme · 20/12/2022 22:08

The Holiday?

Feckingfeck · 20/12/2022 22:29

Elf! (If it was my choice)

Or Arthur Christmas.

My son is saving lightyear for Christmas eve...(yay 😒)

jinjo · 20/12/2022 23:01

@meetmynewusername have you seen Last Christmas? We all loved it and plan to watch it again this year. It has lots of Wham! music in it, with Last Christmas being the title track. Eagle eyed viewers will spot Andrew Ridgley as an extra in one scene towards the end. The storyline is a love story set in London - If you enjoyed Love Actually you may like this even more.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 20/12/2022 23:02

Stardust
Peter Pan - the one with Jason Isaacs in
hugo
our favorites are St Trininans (with Rupert Everett who is utterly brilliant) and Ferris Buellers day off
not Christmas films but v good for all the family

Yes, who needs to be festive 😂

Boombaker · 20/12/2022 23:13

Daddy's Home and Daddy's Home 2, firm Christmas favourites here once the littlest are asleep.

It's hardly a family film!

Yes, to be fair I possibly didn’t read the title of the thread properly! Maybe save it for another time!

Another vote here for About Time

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 20/12/2022 23:18

If I had to choose:-
festive Four Christmases
alternative Don't Look Up
general comedy Identity Thief

Delectable · 20/12/2022 23:20

White Christmas. Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, King and I, My Fair Lady etc.

MusselMam · 20/12/2022 23:26

About time would fit the bill, I think. It's on Netflix.

MerryMarigold · 20/12/2022 23:29

Christmas with the coopers is a good one. It's very funny but also quite deep regarding relationships.

Chuckiegg · 20/12/2022 23:48

Our family favourite is Little Miss Sunshine.

LouisCatorze · 23/12/2022 11:47

Would second Christmas with the Coopers. Took mine to see it when it came out at the cinema (2019?). Rewatched it recently and really enjoyed it second time around. It has a great cast too.

Little Women definitely gives us a festive vibe and would be enjoyed by everyone.
