I just had some letters and parcels delivered by my postie.
Is this something that is happening nationally ? It is Sunday right?

Couldn't tell you the last time I had normal mail! Getting annoyed

megletthesecond · 18/12/2022 15:31

We've had Sunday Xmas deliveries in the past. They do their best to get everything put on time.

They have also asked for friends and family of RM workers to help with deliveries, so they can 'deliver Christmas',so maybe it's them delivering on their time off from their other jobs!

Oh wow. We have taken agency workers. How does friends and family work on a legal level?

This isn't true.

Random, unvetted people aren't delivering for RM. They won't understand the sorting process or how the walks work. Casual staff yes. Friends and family no.

CaptainMyCaptain · 18/12/2022 15:39

I had a package today.

LlynTegid · 18/12/2022 15:46

I've known it happen on the Sunday before Christmas before.

statetrooperstacey · 18/12/2022 15:47

thwy have asked for friends and family yes. They are being employed through agency. Personal recommendations of honest reliable people as the agencies can’t supply enough staff.
so if anyone needs a a few days work and they know anybody who works for Royal Mail call them and ask.
Sunday deliveries have been a thing for ages for parcels . Letters have always been delivered on sundays in December .
back log is not really from strikes , back log is because workers have been told to not prioritise mail only parcels . This has been going on for a long time. One of the reasons workers are striking! The public are being told it’s about a pay rise, it’s about a lot more than that!
if RM get their way letter deliveries will be like this going forward , once a week, twice if your lucky.

angharadsgoat · 18/12/2022 15:49

I posted about this on the other thread. Grateful they're trying to catch up though I'm not sure about receiving bills on a Sunday.

longtompot · 18/12/2022 15:49

I've had it this past two Sundays. The first one was most needed as it was medication my dd was waiting for

parsniiips · 18/12/2022 15:50

I got a pile of letters yesterday some dates November and missed an appointment because of it.

Absolute shambles.
I'm won't use Royal Mail for anything if there's a choice. Literally any other delivery option will do.

TiredandLate · 18/12/2022 15:50

I haven't had any post for weeks, and I've had to stop buying anything online from businesses that ship using RM. They are a shambles. The company I work for has also stopped using RM for parcels, if other people and companies feel like us there won't be much work left for the strikers.

Ariela · 18/12/2022 15:55

My postie says they're working their days off instead of strike days (so not loosing money over it). I get the impression he's not bothered about the strike, but he does cover other rounds quite a lot, often does 2 rounds of a day - you often see him pop up delivering elsewhere in the general area than his usual patch.

kernowpicklepie · 18/12/2022 15:56

Nope, haven't had anything on a Sunday. In fact, haven't had anything at all this week.
1 parcel last week, 1 parcel the week before and letters the week before that. Absolutely no letters for 3 weeks is crazy

I didn't know about Sunday deliveries near Christmas- I thought RM was strictly Mon-Sat.
I know that couriers deliver on Sundays but I hope that the posties are paid extra if they do extra days in December

I imagine their contract is 7 day but they get a day off in the week if they work Sunday.
They aren’t allowed any leave in December (Christmas pressure) until after Christmas Eve.

newmum1976 · 19/12/2022 21:34

We’ve had no RM post since November!! Luckily, Evri and Amazon are great here. (south east London)
