When do you think is the ideal birthday?

If you could choose, which month of the year would you like your birthday and why?

I feel quite lucky that mine is in June, the weather is usually nice and when I was younger there was an equal amount of time between receiving gifts/new toys.

I am also in Scotland so doesn’t make me one of the youngest in the year.

I always loved having a June birthday, only ever six months to wait for presents. I never associated it with the dreadful time I had at school. Planned both kids birthdays for summer (June and July), then profoundly regretted it once school rolled around. In England, an autumn birthday is the best

September. As a child you benefit hugely from being one of the oldest, which has lasting advantage. Plus you are very likely to benefit from the last of the nice weather, so have the option of outdoor parties if wanted. It's not too close to Xmas either, so gifts are spread throughout the year (obviously not as well as with a summer birthday, but that needs to be balanced up against being the youngest in year at school).

Mine is in February which is not great. My DC are Aug and Sep which is lovely as I think Summer is best.

I had planned to take March 'off' when conceiving to avoid December. I can't think of a worse month to be born!

Stupidbonfire · 15/12/2022 13:26

May is great.

As as adult I long for a summer birthday, I have first week of January and no one wants to go out (not even me). I absolutely dread it every year. If anyone does anything it feels like the birthday equivalent of a pity shag. No one drinks and goes home as soon as they politely can. Get unwanted Christmas gifts as presents (which actually isn’t that bad, but still)

As a parent though, I think being the youngest in a year is hard. But if you’re an august baby you can hold back now….beginning of septEmber seems quite good too.

June or July. When I was a kid I always wanted my birthday in June or July! Hot weather, far from Christmas. My birthday is in rubbish January. People are skint from Christmas and fed up with the weather, and as a kid I felt I always got the short end of the stick. Some relatives even used to give one gift ‘as I won’t see you again before your birthday now.’ Okay, well give me two presents then!

🤣🤣🤣

Mine is 1st December and I LOVE it. I feel like I get to kick off a sparkly party month and everyone is in a good mood. Also think May/June would be good as those are the best months anyway (in the UK).

My niece was born on 2nd Jan - so bad.

FunnyCradock · 15/12/2022 13:33

Having an early January birthday is amazing!
No. Not really. It’s obviously shit.

I do normally go away though, and it’s quiet and cheap(er) so every cloud and all that. Plus, had all my childhood birthdays in the Antipodes so that was high summer & was fab.

tigger1001 · 15/12/2022 13:41

My birthday is the week before Christmas and I hate it. In my younger years people were always busy with works nights out so no night out and it's just too close to Christmas.

I actively don't celebrate my birthday these days.

I think mid year is a good time for a birthday. Weather hopefully ok etc

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 15/12/2022 13:45

Mid September. Weather usually warm enough to do something outdoorsy for a celebration. Older in the academic year, not during major exam season. Good distance from Christmas and other seasonal celebrations - in our house we've got birthdays that often fall on Easter and Mothers Day, plus Halloween, and it can be a PITA to get a crowd together as people have other plans.

Failing that early May for most of the same reasons.

chipsandpeas · 15/12/2022 13:47

mine is mid may which suits me, nice time of year to go on holiday and ususally decent weather to do something here
only downside when i was younger, being in scotland it was in exam season so luckily only once did i have an exam on my birthday and i was at uni at the time but it was a worry when the timetables were out

BabyFour2023 · 15/12/2022 13:50

Mine and DS2s : AUGUST!!!

It is amazing! Hot weather, never at school on your birthday as a child. Oh I love my summer birthday!
DS2 and DD have December & January birthdays and there are so many places closed during these months making days out and parties except playcentres difficult.

DarkKarmaIlama · 15/12/2022 14:02

@BabyFour2023

Mine is mid August and I hate the sweating in pubs/restaurants etc. So many birthdays have been in the 30 degrees plus and very humid. I don’t like that weather.

RandomUsernameHere · 15/12/2022 14:09

My DCs' birthdays are in May. I like the fact that they're fairly evenly spaced out from Christmas!

Chelsea26 · 15/12/2022 14:33

My birthday is mid-September and I think it’s brilliant. My best friend’s is the day after mine so we always have “our birthday” and do something fun.

My mum’s birthday was 15th January which was shit so she changed it! It’s now 15th May!!

kingtamponthefurred · 17/12/2022 12:27

May. I am November-born and the birthday I spent in Australia was definitely the best I've had.
