When do you think is the ideal birthday?

If you could choose, which month of the year would you like your birthday and why?

I feel quite lucky that mine is in June, the weather is usually nice and when I was younger there was an equal amount of time between receiving gifts/new toys.

I am also in Scotland so doesn’t make me one of the youngest in the year.

I am the end of May and my dd beginning of June. It’s a great time for a birthday because it’s nice weather, bank holiday around then and it’s halfway through the year so your presents are spread out this is good when you’re a child. Also it’s still in the school year so you can have class parties without everyone being away on hols

SallyWD · 15/12/2022 07:25

I have a December birthday - I know they always get a bad press but I love it. Ever since I can remember December has felt magical, having the double whammy of birthday and Christmas. I can't do much outside for my birthday but it always feels special and Christmassy.

HowCanIPayItForward · 15/12/2022 07:26

Mine and DCs are winter - too cold to do anything and too close to Christmas meaning it can easily turn into a bit of a gift overload (we're fairly restrained but lots of other family buy for us). DH is August which is lovely now and we often go away but he says it was rubbish as a child as lots of his friends would be on holiday. I always thought a May or June birthday would be perfect.

Teapleasebobb · 15/12/2022 07:30

Hm, well mine is mid December and I don't like it. I feel like it just gets in the way of things at Christmas. My family struggle to know what to buy me for Christmas, without throwing a birthday in to the mix too!
Summer birthdays are good as you have so many more options to celebrate I think!

CranberryPecan · 15/12/2022 07:30

I think May or June are is good months for a birthday

whatthejuice · 15/12/2022 07:31

My kids are both mid May. So far it seems great - usually nice weather, ages from Christmas, not the very youngest in the school year, not yet the school holidays so parties are easy.

No one close to me has a September birthday but I've always thought that would be a lovely month too.

AriettyHomily · 15/12/2022 07:34

Mine is May, I like it. Kids are August and we are usually away for their birthdays which they love. When they were younger we just did their parties before they broke up for summer.

I think January is the worst, no one wants to do anything!

Luckingfovely · 15/12/2022 07:42

Last week of May - guaranteed a bank holiday to celebrate, plus close to middle of year!

WalkingOnSonshine · 15/12/2022 07:46

I remember having this conversation with some mum friends and someone had an issue with every single month. This is England only.

January: everyone’s skint
February: snow
March: too cold and/or raining
April: raining and Easter
May: ok
June: school exams
July: exams first half, holidays second half
August: youngest in year, everyone on holiday
September: oldest in year so no one to go out with
October: ok but rainy
November: ok but dark and cold
December: too close to Christmas

Twizbe · 15/12/2022 07:47

I'm March which is good. Middle of the school year, a bit further from Xmas, weather starting to improve.

The only downside now is my birthday is very close to Mother's Day. Some years it will be the same day or a day or two before / after. I make a big deal about birthdays though so my family know which is more important to me (but we still celebrate both)

My eldest is a late Jan birthday. It's actually been ok so far for him. As he gets older it might be annoying as it's the wrong side of pay day lol.

Pasadenadreaming · 15/12/2022 07:49

I'm July and I love it - as a kid it was always the wind down at the end of term - exams were over and it was school trips/fun stuff or time off after GCSES/A levels. Now I live in Scotland and it's school hols here which is ideal. Usually decent weather so could have outdoor parties too. And I like the fact it's slap bang in the middle of the year so nicely spaced from Christmas.

DarkKarmaIlama · 15/12/2022 07:52

June, my sons birthday. Always pleasant weather.

Daughters birthday is right by Xmas and is the worst.

Other son is mid Feb. Usually Baltic so can’t do that much.

Mine is mid August, tends to be really hot or humid. Not great.

Husbands is early October which is not too bad actually but all in all May/June are the nicest months for a birthday.

hattie43 · 15/12/2022 08:02

Any summer month , June July August .

ThisMustBeMyDream · 15/12/2022 08:02

My son is 1st June. Excellent time for a birthday. Usually falls in half term. He is 7, never been in school for his birthday (the one year it fell on the Monday after half term was 2020 when no one was in school!). It has been good weather every year. Always able to do outdoor stuff. In general I think it is fab. My other two are early March and late Nov which are both a bit rubbish.

ZenNudist · 15/12/2022 08:04

October half term

LaBellina · 15/12/2022 08:05

My brother has the perfect birthday imo, his is in late April and it’s nearly always nice weather, a nice celebration between Christmas and the summer holidays.

ladygindiva · 15/12/2022 08:06

My eldest DD is end of May. Falls in summer half term, weather's nice, I think it's perfect. Myself and other 2 DC are end of November and beginning of Dec. Nowhere near as good.

muddlingthrou · 15/12/2022 08:09

My birthday is in January and it's a nightmare 🤦🏽‍♀️ I always pushed through when I was younger, but once I hit 30 I had to admit it sucks.

My daughter is late February, which I think isn't too bad as people start to come out of the winter gloom. My husband's is late April, which I think is ideal as the weather is often good and there's usually a bank holiday around then. Gah, feeling bitter about my birthday again!

FleasNavidad · 15/12/2022 08:10

May is the best

Needmorelego · 15/12/2022 08:59

I vaguely remember reading once that the tradition of getting married in June would be because 9 months later would be March and that's a good time for a baby to be born - winter is over so not too cold, heatwave of summer yet to begin.
No idea if that is true....and of course it relies on a baby being conceived on the wedding night 😂

Fluffygoon · 15/12/2022 09:13

My birthday’s today 🥂.DH has a stinking cold so not well enough to go out. Will spend it wrapping presents and a trip into town to buy presents for daughters’s Boxing Day birthday and mum’s on 27th.
Such a busy, stressful time of the year but can be magical going to a nice pub with a log fire and Xmas decorations - DS is in the summer which is a great time, spreads the presents out 😀

TheRookie · 15/12/2022 09:19

Mine and my son's birthdays are July which is perfect, was always on school holidays so have never been to school on my bday and always took my summer holidays at work then as well so never worked! My daughter's is in early April which so far has been Easter holidays which is great, husband is may! All good birthdays!

My brother's family of 5 - 4 out of 5 birthdays in November and December! The other one is September so the last few months of the year are absolutely packed full haha!

Bibbitybobbityboot · 15/12/2022 09:23

I’d say April/ early May. Late May is exam season. April/ May weather is normally nice so you can do something outside, people are around, it’s far enough from Christmas to have a nice gap between presents, and you’re not the oldest or youngest in the year.
Mine is NYE which is shit. But better than Xmas Eve/ day I guess. DH is early may, there’s normally a bank holiday and lovely weather. Children are both November which is a bit too close to Xmas so makes for a stressful time for us but they are happy enough so far. I’d like to be able to do cheap outdoor parties in the park though!

edwinbear · 15/12/2022 10:08

I was born on the late May bank holiday. It's perfect, weather is usually good, there is always a bank holiday a few days before or after. DH is Jan which is rubbish, DD is mid-Nov which is OK, but still cold and a bit too close to Christmas. DS is end of August, the weather is usually lovely and it's in the school holidays, but the flip side is none of his mates are around and he is youngest in the year. I like May.

skippy67 · 15/12/2022 10:22

Mine is in June which I love. I was one of the youngest in my school year which I liked. Also, the weather is more likely to be nice! Dd has a January birthday, and she hates it. Dreary, cold, post Christmas, all that "bad" stuff 😅. I think October is probably a good month for a birthday too.
