When do you think is the ideal birthday?

If you could choose, which month of the year would you like your birthday and why?

I feel quite lucky that mine is in June, the weather is usually nice and when I was younger there was an equal amount of time between receiving gifts/new toys.

I am also in Scotland so doesn’t make me one of the youngest in the year.

Ds birthday is May, which is a "good" month too I reckon.

Unsureofitall · 15/12/2022 10:26

I would pick the middle of June. Will be warm but not too hot. Middle of the year and not to close to summer holidays, halloween or Christmas.

I am the end of May and my dd beginning of June. It’s a great time for a birthday because it’s nice weather, bank holiday around then and it’s halfway through the year so your presents are spread out this is good when you’re a child. Also it’s still in the school year so you can have class parties without everyone being away on hols

Yes and me- mine is always in the half term holidays as well!

MerryChristmasToYou · 15/12/2022 10:32

Not September. Cousin had to stay at school a year longer because he was born on Sept 1.

Not January - everyone skint, paid early in December, gifts are either regifts or something from the sales, weather cold and days short.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 15/12/2022 10:36

Mine is late May, which is generally great, but I was sitting my leaving exams on my 18th birthday, and sitting my undergrad finals on my 21st birthday...so the beginning of May might be even better.

NoelNoNoel · 15/12/2022 10:41

Feb is great, I never get depressed after Christmas as I had my birthday to plan. Lots of people don’t go out much in January so by February they are ready for a party or meal. Mine is around the Feb half term so when my DC were younger we often went away somewhere long haul and warm. It’s also a good time of year for a European cold and cosy city break.

I have a December birthday - I know they always get a bad press but I love it. Ever since I can remember December has felt magical, having the double whammy of birthday and Christmas. I can't do much outside for my birthday but it always feels special and Christmassy.

I agree with this . Myself and my dd have birthdays days before Christmas and ds just after and it's really adds to the whole excitement of the time . Everyone else seems to hate Christmas birthdays tho 😂

Oblomov22 · 15/12/2022 11:11

June.

September. One of the oldest in your class, still nice weather.

JamSandle · 15/12/2022 11:17

May/June

CoteDivoire · 15/12/2022 11:18

I have December and I hate it! DH is mid May and it's always lovely so I would pick May if I could. I was aiming for spring/early summer babies but Mother Nature gave me November and July!

LindaEllen · 15/12/2022 11:38

Early September (like, 1st/2nd). Off school for your birthday every year, you get an extra year with your parents before you have to start school, and you have a better chance of being ahead at school thanks to that extra year (though obviously it tends to even out as you go through primary school).

Add to that, the weather is often nice, and it's not too close to Christmas.

stopbeeping · 15/12/2022 11:39

July 1st

MintyGreenDreams · 15/12/2022 11:43

I love my April birthday
.Its always in the easter holidays so I was off school every year as a child.

Mary46 · 15/12/2022 13:00

Summer month be perfect. Hate mine january and I get nothing!

NeonBoomerang · 15/12/2022 13:02

Ideally I'd go camping with a big group of friends for my birthday, but it's the end of March so it isn't quite warm enough.

I'd prefer a June birthday.

Both my DS and DM are 5th January though, which is just bloody rubbish.

maranella · 15/12/2022 13:04

May or June are the best IMO. It's a bit rubbish when you're a DC and you have to wait until late in the school year to have your birthday, but thereafter it's fab. One of my DC has a May birthday and it's always lovely around that time.

Monkeytapper · 15/12/2022 13:04

my kids birthday are 15th and 18th July which is is perfect I think

Monkeytapper · 15/12/2022 13:06

Mines 30th June, which is great as exactly half way through the year

DorotheaHomeAlone · 15/12/2022 13:07

Wow! I came on to say I love my end of May, bank holiday weekend birthday and most posters on here agree! I always felt like it was the best of the birthday dates of people I knew; lovely weather, outdoor parties, far from Christmas and with the summer stretching ahead of you.

MerryMarigold · 15/12/2022 13:08

My birthday is June. I was younger for the year but always excelled. At uni/ A levels, exams were finished by my birthday.

Between the end of October and Mid Dec I have my Mum, Dad, 3 kids and husband. It's horrible! Dad 80 this year in Nov and DH 50 in Dec. In a couple of years my twins will be 18, mum 80 and Ds1 will be 21 - within 3 weeks of each other 😱.

TiddleyWink · 15/12/2022 13:09

Between mid September and mid October.

  • Nice to have a newborn in autumn, hibernate over Christmas and then emerge to enjoy spring/summer on mat leave once you’re more in your stride.
  • Children are older end of school year so massively advantaged from the start.
  • Not too close to Christmas.
  • Term time so people are around for parties and not away on summer hols.
  • Early enough in the school year that people aren’t sick of the back to back parties and all the venues/ideas have been done to death.

Once into adulthood I think it makes little difference beyond being nicer not to be at Christmas.

Footmassageplease · 15/12/2022 13:11

I'm christmas day. Wouldn't change it for the world.

TiddleyWink · 15/12/2022 13:11

It’s only since my eldest started school that I appreciated quite the significance of the age gap between children at either end of the reception year. The gap between them developmentally can be immense and while of course lots of summer born kids thrive, I’m baffled now that this wasn’t on my radar at all when TTC!

AbbyGal · 15/12/2022 13:14

Mine is May which is great unless it's your 16th, 18th or 21st when you'll be in the middle of exams (21st only if you go to Uni obviously)

NoelNoNoel · 15/12/2022 13:16

The difference gets less significant quite quickly. My August born sons did really well in school.
