Antibiotic shortages for children

What the heck is going on!

My friend who lives in my area tried over 16 pharmacies today to get antibiotics for her child before she found a pharmacy over an hours drive away with stock.

This is concern me greatly. How can this be actually happening?

In some areas yes in mine no ds had nausea stomach pain sore throat but no high temp (close but not high) and no rash so no antibiotics however shoukd he present with the other symptoms he would get the antibiotics he is currently snoring wearing his blanket refusing his duvet in a freezing house which probably explains why he doesn't have a temperature 🙄

Not so good for 2 year olds but children can often manage regular daily tablets from quite a young age. We were recommended Tictacs for practising. DD couldn't quite manage these to start with, around her 5th birthday, so we started on the tiniest of cake sprinkles and worked our way up.

Of course it's not the ideal time to master a new skill when your throat is sore. Hope all these poorly little ones feel better soon.

My 3 year old son has been taking penicillin v for scarlet fever. We were prescribed the tablets which we cut in half and grind up with the back of spoon. They can then be put in ribena or other strong flavoured food or drink. Try not to worry if you can only get tablets they are no worse than the liquid to administer and may be easier as they can be put in a preferred food.
