Uber - can someone please explain this to me?

We booked a ride, watched the car getting nearer and then, literally a hundred yards from us, it stopped coming.
He rang, but I didn't realise I was him and rejected the call, but then his number was blocked and I couldn't call back.
Then, another uber said he'd be with us in 7 minutes, without being called.
I'm new to uber (obviously) but is this normal?

OK fine. But why didn't he message then?

No really, he did his bit. Stop blaming someone else for your bad decision.

You can call them as well I think.
Near me there are new traffic restrictions so sometimes they ask you to walk round the corner v short distance but that stops them having to drive the long way round (or getting a fine)

Mercurial123 · 13/12/2022 10:46

Accept it OP you were in the wrong. It's not unusual for Uber drivers to call.

whataboutya · 13/12/2022 12:28

You rejected his call but want to negatively review him?!
And you think a driver who is busy driving should text you?
Are you aware passengers also get reviewed? So if you could review him it would only be fair for him to give you 1 star for rejecting his call and being uncontactable, right?

I've given up on Uber since they started charging a fee even when they can't find you a driver - this now counts as a cancellation by the customer (even though the only reason you've cancelled is they can't find a driver) and they refund you in Uber credits only.
Luckily we have alternatives cab apps in our area.

I have very often cancelled an uber whilst it’s searching for a driver and have never ever been charged?

Needmorelego · 13/12/2022 13:02

@Pondere I've never been charged either if I cancel. Both with Uber or Bolt.

Needmorelego · 13/12/2022 13:04

I've got to say Uber and Bolt have changed my life. We rely on taxis a lot and the apps are so convenient and a great service.
Compared to previous experience with local mini cab companies.
I love them.

You can't be annoyed at him. He should be giving you a negative review. He came out to you and wasted his time where he could have gone to another job where they would have been waiting for him and answered the call. I get ignoring numbers you don't know but when you're waiting for someone or something, surely you answer?

Pondere - it happened about a month ago and I haven't used Uber since (had used them for years previously).
The app kept trying to find a driver, after about ten mins of waiting with no driver found I cancelled. Later on I got an email from Uber saying I'd been charged a fee for cancelling. I used the app to object as no driver turned up (as no driver was booked) and Uber issued a refund BUT only as a credit to use on Uber, not back into my a/c.
Have since spoken to friends who have had the same issue.

Have switched to Bolt and not had the same issue. If no driver is found (and one usually is) then I've not been charged. Sticking with Bolt for now.

Has never happened to me.

There is a fee if a driver has been found and you cancel more than 2 minutes later, but never when it’s not found one. That’s why I wonder if one was actually found when you cancelled.

I use Uber, Bolt, Ola and Gett, and I have never been charged a fee for cancelling for no driver.
