Create a playlist. Strong female singers

I'm putting together a playlist and looking for suggestions
Female singers
I like belting it out in the car when I'm alone
My 2 favourite singers are Mary Coughlan and Kirsty MacColl. Florence and the machine, 4 non blondes and Alanis Morissette are sounds I like and sing along with
Can you add anything?

My favourite female singer is Sheila Ferguson. Her time with The Three Degrees was fantastic.

GreenwichVillage83 · 08/12/2022 22:21

Tina Turner!!! The strongest woman! And underrated because people only associate her with Simply the Best.

Another vote for Melissa Etheridge. And Beth Hart, she’s very bluesy. Love all these others too! Christine McVey was a sad loss.

As much as I like some of the Pretenders stuff, I do struggle with Chrissie Hynde and her victim-blaming comments on rape. She’s not a good role model so I would question including her inclusion in a “strong female singers” list. Annoying as the music is good.

(sorry for the derail, and I’m not trying to start a bun fight, I just wanted to highlight this in case others were not aware)

Badtasteflump · 08/12/2022 22:56

Most of the above plus Sheryl Crow.
