This is in the south east. I need a car cozy. Anyone else have car trouble?

OP posts:
Pythonese · 08/12/2022 20:31

I keep mine in the garage, for security as much as protection from the weather.

SirChenjins · 08/12/2022 20:35

Yes OP - the answer is really very simple, you just put it in your garage Wink

Fortunately mine was only frozen on the outside but scraping it at 6.45am isn’t my idea of fun.

Morticiathegreat · 08/12/2022 20:36

Yep had to scrape the inside window of my car and got covered in ice. Not much fun!

SirChenjins · 08/12/2022 20:40

What I did discover is that the overnight de-icer is rubbish - don’t waste your money like I did!

reallyworriedjobhunter · 08/12/2022 20:46

Mine was the same op. In London.

I've the de-icer out for tomorrow morning.

jhdvnktd · 08/12/2022 20:48

This is normal right? It's called a frost and happens every winter, I'm not sure why you're surprised 😂

SittingTrot · 08/12/2022 20:49

Yes , first proper frost for ages , we've been spoilt with mild winters , cold spell needed to kill off the germs

AnyFucker · 08/12/2022 20:50

It’s December 🤷🏼‍♀️

Not up here we haven’t!

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 08/12/2022 21:07

The dehumidifier packs stop the inside getting icy and windscreen covers stop the outside. Then you just need to clear side windows.

Reasonablereasonableness · 08/12/2022 21:08

This is normal in the north at this time of year. De-icer and a scraper help.

Pelo2022 · 08/12/2022 21:20

Put some WD40 on the seals around the doors, helps stop them freezing
Someone told me that after I snapped my car door handle off BlushGrin

Oatsamazing · 08/12/2022 21:20

I start my engine 10 mins before I'm going to leave then lock it with the spare key. I do it warm it up for my 2yo before we leave for nursery but also means I don't have to de-ice and its toasty for me too.

GetOffTheRoof · 08/12/2022 21:31

PIngi car dehumidifier packs - reusable, you just chuck them in the microwave for a few minutes, let them cool down then put them back in the car. Absolutely brilliant - I have two dogs so the car gets very wet inside from them and us, so these stop all the freezing up on the inside of the windscreen. Costs about £8.

deplorabelle · 08/12/2022 21:54

Benefit of an EV I can set the heater going from an app on my phone - while I'm still in bed if need be

RoyFuckingKent · 08/12/2022 22:56

Clear out your draining channels.

you’ll find them along the top of the bonnet under the wipers, lift the bonnet for a closer look depending on the car. This time of year they fill leaves causing blockages and potentially leaks within the vehicle, which in turn lead to a damp, icy interior.

I used to have a fiat 500 that suffered badly with it because I parked under trees. The manifested in a very damp footwell when I forgot about it one year.

Mummapenguin20 · 08/12/2022 23:08

fill a hot water bottle and put on your dash board before bed then redo it half hour before needing to leave

AnyFucker · 08/12/2022 23:10

That hot water bottle tip is bloody brilliant

RoyFuckingKent · 08/12/2022 23:15

Saw a good tip for the outside this morning. Have you seen the Dr Beckmann Carpet Cleaner? In a bottle with a brush on the top. Keep the old bottle, fill with tepid water and brush the ice off with it. Very clever.

I see it online hope it helps

GreenLunchBox · 08/12/2022 23:19

I just pour warm water on the windscreen. No scraping needed

That’s a huge risk of it cracking lovely

AnyFucker · 08/12/2022 23:23

If it is really cold the poured water just freezes again

justasking111 · 08/12/2022 23:23

Just run the engine for a few minutes. Must check for leaves as well. Been caught out before. Very wet footwell resulted

Warm water, not hot. I've been doing this for years and not had any problems
