How much are you spending per day on gas?

Really not sure how to cut it down, especially now the temperature has dropped.

We spent £9 yesterday and the heating was off during the day. We have a 2 year old and baby due in 2 weeks so don't see how cold we can let the house get 🥶. Heating kicks in at 16 degrees overnight and it most certainly did.

I literally had the heating on for 30 mins this morning to air the house then it's oodie and hot drinks from my thermos, and layers, lots and lots of layers.

TokyoSushi · 08/12/2022 07:15

About £7, and it's still freezing, hideous!

avocadotofu · 08/12/2022 07:15

£3 a day.

£5 a day.

Violashift · 08/12/2022 07:18

£9-10 and its still cold

samstownsunset · 08/12/2022 07:19

About £9 too OP with little ones in the house. I have it on for about 10 hours a day to 18 degrees. As it gets colder the price just keeps going up!

SantasFlaws · 08/12/2022 07:20

About £5-7 a day over these cold months.

alsownm · 08/12/2022 07:23

We have it set to 16 overnight and 19/20 during the day (as someone is almost always in.) So far our most expensive day has been £7.82

ifonly4 · 08/12/2022 07:26

Similar thread on Cost of Living.

Over the last eight days we've averaged £5.58 and that's set on 18c when it's on. Going to more over next few days as temps close to freezing and -3-5 at night. Dread to think of cost.

We're all different how we use our heating OP, but I'd prefer to have it off at night as I've got the warm from quilt, blankets, dressing gown on bed if really cold, then feel it can have a good blast in the morning when I'm up and can appreciate it.

Reluctantadult · 08/12/2022 07:30

£6-7. 3 bed mid terrace. Have also been using the log burner but I'm suspicious it actually costs more. Going to buy a single bag of logs and calculate it this week.

Can you turn it off at night? Lower than 16 degrees overnight isn't a problem. Unless you're sitting up with babies.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 08/12/2022 07:32

I would never pay for heating overnight. I have a ten tog duvet and it is sooooo warm.

OddBoots · 08/12/2022 07:34

We keep the house at 16c between 7am and 10pm and the thermostat is at 9c overnight (but hasn't so far dropped to that) when it is just us in the house, I but it to 18c or higher if we have guests (not very often).

Last week the gas (which includes some cooking) was £24.35 inc standing charge, but it will be higher this week, yesterday was just under £5 for the day.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 08/12/2022 07:36

£7-9 depending on how cold it is. The heating is on for a couple of hours in the morning and again in the evening, thermostat set to kick in if it drops below 17 and stop heating above 18, but only during those times. Hot water on for about 4 hours a day.

Our direct debit for dual fuel is £350 but we haven't used anything like that over the last few months so have built up a healthy surplus. This month looks like we might be around that usage so I feel happy that we can have the heating on enough to be comfortable in the really cold middle of winter and still have some surplus going in to next winter when prices will be even higher!

IToldYouAmillionTimesAlready · 08/12/2022 07:37

Our heating is on from 9am to 9pm, apart from when I go shopping or to meet a friend sometimes. I'm at home all day and am not going to be cold. It's about £60 for the week.

Oddbutnotodd · 08/12/2022 07:40

£12-15 now. Heating is not on all day. House got up to 17c yesterday. Now back to 15c. No heating on overnight. Do have a range though in the kitchen which is always on.

Suzie0003 · 08/12/2022 07:41

£5-7 a day for gas. Its really worrying. I always leave it on 16 at night otherwise we're freezing cold getting up for work and school in the mornings. It's horrible

MishaBukvic · 08/12/2022 07:45

£9 a day for us. £12 on a particularly cold day this week because heating kicked in when it reached 14 during day. Usually On for two hours in morning and four hours is evening.

AutisticLegoLover · 08/12/2022 07:50

£5 a day. Heating is on for 4.5 hours a day and the hot water for an hour but I'm going to decrease the water time. There's no point having it on overnight when I'm under a duvet with a hot water bottle.

Darcy101 · 08/12/2022 07:53

Heating on from 7am to 9.30pm, thermostat set at 20, 4 bed house, lounge was between 18 and 20 degrees - total cost for day was £15, £10 of which was gas. So house was warm enough all day. Two of us at home all day.

Witsendwilly · 08/12/2022 07:58

Yeah, we spend a lot. The thermostat is in the room with the pets which we don’t let drop below 16.

Isle of Man. Gas is horrifically expensive but at least our electric is capped until March.

How much are you spending per day on gas?
garlicandsapphires · 08/12/2022 08:00

2 pounds yesterday. Heating on for 2 hours in the morning.

Nolosomi · 08/12/2022 09:04

£5.80 yesterday but don’t heat all of the house. Living room on minimum, I use a heated throw. No heating in kitchen or rooms not being used. Heating on 2 hours in the morning and from 3 - 9pm but only to 16 degrees. I moved my thermostat to the warmest room. So long as occupied bedrooms and bathroom is warm I think I can cope. I’m wrapped up today as wfh but have many layers on!

Blubell1981 · 08/12/2022 09:06

Just had our bill for two months and it was £328 so about £6 per day. Not like the house is even cosy to cost that either!

onmywayamarillo · 08/12/2022 09:07

Just got my monthly bill from nov 7th to dec 7th £160!!!!!

Weirdly I looked at the app yesterday and it said I'd only used £120

So the rest is standing charge and vat 😱

onmywayamarillo · 08/12/2022 09:08

So that's £5.33 per day on gas and electric
