I’ve just been scrolling through Facebook and saw my husband has commented on a post to enter a raffle. His “lucky numbers” are mine and the kids birthdays 🥰

Just a little warning if the heart after what has been quite a shitty day.

I work in pastoral care at a tough secondary school. and have been working with a girl from a nightmare family for a few weeks... a streetwise, challenging year 10 who has been making some very bad choices. I've gone above and beyond with this kid and we're finally making a bit of progress. She popped into my room today just to say "thanks for all you do for me miss. Knowing you're there means a lot and I'm really trying my best because of you"

We are all sick with something and for me it is like a stomach flu.my DH stayed home to help me with our poorly little ones (sick day for him) and he currently has the baby whilst I’m going to get a few hours gloriously alone in bed. Thanks DH!

It was the village Christmas evening/late night shopping thing tonight. I had volunteered DD(12) and I to help her guides and brownies group at the Santa's grotto. DD is not a people person (very shy) and doesn't like small children, plus she's usually exhausted after a day of being with people at school (guides is her only 'activity' and it's a very small group) and was dreading it.
She was the 'elf' (no costume, thankfully!) handing out gifts to the children in the grotto, for two hours. She didn't say a word to any of them (though she did have a nice chat with Santa) but she gave some lovely smiles and actually commented afterwards how cute the kids were. It was a lovely thing to do for the community and made us feel nicely festive. Then we got hot dogs on the very cold walk home.

My shy, anxious DD did her brownie promise tonight. It was on a whim because she went in saying she didn't want to do it just yet and hates being the centre of attention.

My DD (7) told me if she could, she would choose me all over again from the box of mummy's she chose me from before she was born. Made me laugh and feel and warm n fuzzy

I have a really long drive to work every Wednesday and I hate it. For the past several weeks it's been hammering down with rain and I can hardly see for the whole time I'm on this particular A road, which is always extremely fast moving. I find it so stressful I have to peel my finger nails out the steering wheel by the time I get to work!! Today it was dry, bright and clear. I realised I was even singing a long to the radio at one point. I felt like a different person and had a great day at work. It made the world of difference.

i was just finishing work when my mum rang me to say she was cooking a beef roast and to go round after i’d picked the kids up. i’ve had a lovely dinner, followed by homemade chocolate cake, and now i’m having a little lie down on the sofa whilst my dad’s took the kids out for a walk to look at people’s christmas lights.

This, to me, is the stuff of dreams. Having a mother like that. And a dad like that. Sounds idyllic - it seems like you realise it though so not getting a dig at you. Just sounds so cosy and comforting. I’ve never had that.

We’ve (DD) had a lovely afternoon baking though.

Bobbybobbins · 07/12/2022 20:40

Had the best lesson all year with my year 8 group who are very hard work. Didn't have to tell anyone off!

A Facebook memory of DS , then aged 3 and DM decorating the Christmas tree. He was late talkiing and was delighted with the "Christmas 'Asians' " (decorations). It's one of my favourite photos - DS is a 7'3" teenager now.

My local community helped me out today when I got a flat tyre. One guy helped me empty the crap out of my car boot (typical, just filled it up ready for a tip run tomorrow), and my regular garage man (once I got enough air into it to limp to the garage) lent me a car and said I could leave the rubbish with him and he’d take it to the tip for me tomorrow (I live in the sticks and can’t get a new tyre same day, has to be ordered).

I found out my son (adult,) has paid my 80 yr old mums electric bill so she doesn't have to worry.

He told her he had a bonus that had to be silent on a utility bill. (bollocks ).

That’s lovely!

Ontobetterthings · 07/12/2022 21:34

Visiting the doctor and he kept calling me young lady even though I was clearly older than him 🤣

ScarlettDarling · 07/12/2022 21:38

Watching my Reception class practise our Nativity today. The three wise men presented their gifts to baby Jesus so proudly that I just melted. They are just so innocent and really summed up the spirit of Christmas for me.

Sprouttreesareamazing · 07/12/2022 21:39

My school refusing dd who has had 2 suicide attempts this year has sat discussing her hopes for college next year. Def taking that as a win for both of us.

NewToWoo · 07/12/2022 21:39

Felt realy low recently as I'm fighting off a flu-ey cold. But DH put up Christmas lights, made dinner and insisted on clearing it up afterwards too. And an ex client of mine sent a message to say a project I'd helped on had won an award which really cheered me up. She was over the moon.

betrayedandwobbly · 07/12/2022 21:40

I have a old friend who has had a shit year, following a pretty bad year, following one of the shittest years imaginable.
And he's actually quite erratic about staying in touch. But I had the most brilliant 'good morning' text from him this morning, and it sounds like he's in a good patch. And that really cheers me up

(I suspect he's not NT, and he's really not good at some types of spontaneous two-way communication, which makes it all the more special when he does manage it)

BigGreen · 07/12/2022 21:40

My work decided to treat my contract ending as a redundancy and are paying me a small severance. Unexpected and very welcome!

BuckarooBanzai · 07/12/2022 21:46

My over six foot tall and very broad shouldered DSS aged 21 keeps wearing a Santa's little helper jumper and it makes me laugh every time I see him in it! He's been dumped and has been heart broken for about a month now. Tonight we think he's out on a date! DP & I have got everything crossed!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 07/12/2022 20:05

That’s lovely.
What a wonderful human being you have made.

Thank you. I know. And he didn't say a word to me. It was just my mum told me about his "bonus". Bless him. He's a goodun

Jux · 07/12/2022 21:52

There's a lady a few doors down from me who has a few pots outside her house. Most of them are set back from the street, but there're a couple of smaller ones which are right by the pavement one of which contains, among other flowers, some dark blue lobelias. I am entranced by them! Every time I go by I look at them, sometimes I stop to enjoy them. I told her once that they gladden my heart, and she's always grown them out there since. I do love them, the colour is so vivid and so deep and rich.

Such a little thing really, but they do make me happy. If she's here, thank you, Lobelia Lady,it does make a difference 😘

NorthernChinchilla · 07/12/2022 21:56

Got to see DD in the nativity.

Doesn't sound much, but her nursery didn't do it, Yr R was Covid, Yr 1 she couldn't take part. Her behaviour was unmanageable at school, now dx autism and ADHD. She was on a very reduced timetable, and she was so upset she couldn't take part.
This year both she and school have put so much effort in, and she has a part, and a line! No-one was sure if she'd cope with the full thing, so school let just me and Dad in to see the dress rehearsal today, just in case.
So whatever happens tomorrow/Fri for the actual show, she's done it and I've seen my baby be a mouse in a nativity!

speakout · 07/12/2022 21:58

Just finished work today- a break now until after christmas.

GetTheGoodLookingGuy · 07/12/2022 22:03

A lovely child in my class has been off sick for a week and a half and we wondered if we'd see him again this side of Christmas (the other children were starting to ask if he'd moved schools!), but he came back today and it was so lovely to see him!

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 07/12/2022 22:07

My 6 year old daughters nativity! She's in year 2 but this was her first proper one due to covid. She sang and signed her heart out (love the inclusiveness!) aced it as a narrator and the whole thing was truly heartwarming!
