What’s the temperature in your home?

I’m curious. What temperature is your home right now and where in the country are you? What sort of property do you live in?

4 bed 70s detached in the southeast and we are 18 degrees after having the heating on for a couple of hours earlier. Without hearing we were at 17 degrees.

Basement flat central London. Very cold 10°C now, 2°C at night. I only put heating on at night for 2 hours. Can't afford the bills. I'm 68 and looking for a warm space to go to round here but warmspaceuk website has crashed. The lower temperatures forecast for this week are going to kill me.

Contact your local salvation army. The ones here are giving people in your situation electric blanket/heated throws. I can’t say what it’s like in all areas but the ones here have been amazing, even if it’s just giving out extra duvets and opening for longer hours to provide hot drinks/soup and a warm place to sit and read.

Also, please contact your local sikh temple. They will always welcome you, hot meal and a friendly place to sit. They are wonderful places with lovely, caring people.

I am so sorry you are struggling @CriticalAlert

purpleme12 · 07/12/2022 13:07

Yes do this actually @Footballmyarse makes really good suggestions.

purpleme12 · 07/12/2022 13:01

Yes go to the warm space.
I've been to ours and we're the only ones there. They'd probably be glad of people actually using it I want to try another one. Wondering if that will have no people as well

It’s really shit that people have to use them. But if they are not used, they won’t run. Horrid situation all round.

CriticalAlert · 07/12/2022 13:22

Thanks so much. I didn't know about any of this help.

CriticalAlert · 07/12/2022 13:25

There's only 2 warm spaces on their London map and they're miles away from me. I might just go and sit in the library for a while.

Library is a good shout. They might even have information for you for more local resources. Local churches might have their own initiatives too.

BruhWhy · 07/12/2022 13:29

1950s ex-council terrace, 19 degrees with heating on and set to that temperature.

1994girl · 07/12/2022 13:32

14

purpleme12 · 07/12/2022 13:33

@CriticalAlert yes go to the library.
Our library has advertised free hot drinks serve yourself on Facebook for people wanting to warm up and sit there

Mischance · 07/12/2022 13:40

New build semi with brilliant insulation. I mostly just put a bit of heating (gas combi-boiler) in the rooms I am in and use the radiator thermostats to keep these down as far as possible. Keep it at about 20 in the living room if I am sitting in there.

Xenia · 07/12/2022 15:50

Library is a good idea. I remember even back to my childhood people going into the library in Newcastle for the day to keep warm. Librarians had a bit of difficulty with it sometimes as those older people would take al the seats and the day's newspapers, those popping in for shorter periods wanted but it was certainly a warm space (although not everywhere has libraries). Also the person in London the museums are free like Natural History, Science, V&A so you I expect you can walk around there (if you live near enough to get to them).
[Sittting with my fan heater on at present in my office [ pause to put it off as it had reached 24C in here] as the heating goes on at 4.30pm and I don't want to change settings just for my one office and the son in another room working is not cold he says (he had a very vigorous walk earlier when the sun was out).

4 bed detached 1990s house with v large extension. Large open plan kitchen. Heating on for 2 hours morning and 2 hours evening. We do have solar panels so our dishwasher and tumble dryer are mostly free. We do have a hot tub 🤦🏼‍♀️ though. Temp in house is 15 degrees. Hot tub is at 38.5. I wfh in an oodie. Prefer hot tub in winter tbh and I also take a cold shower most mornings after I've washed a La wim Hoff. I'm not cold.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 07/12/2022 15:53

Costing us about £12-16 per day incl the hot tub.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 07/12/2022 15:56

Also heated blanket cost pennies ad heated jackets run off usb batteries and lasts ages. Almost burnt my back was so hot.

RudsyFarmer · 07/12/2022 16:20

The house right now is 13 degrees ❄️🥶

33goingon64 · 07/12/2022 16:23

Large 60s detached chalet style house in S E England. Without heating (radiator not connected yet) kitchen was 14 earlier. Thermostat is set to 17 so that's what it's on now. Will light a fire shortly but heating will probably go back on too as it's going to be -4 tonight.

purpleme12 · 07/12/2022 16:24

11 in here.
My body's ok to be honest . But I've got a lovely warm jumper on today
But my feet are a different matter altogether.
Feet and hands are always the ones that let me down ☹️

validnumber · 07/12/2022 17:41

@Footballmyarse that's really helpful research, thank you

Becsay · 08/12/2022 14:44

11.5 degrees at 2.30pm. I have the heating on at 6.30 to 8am and 5 until 8pm.

fifteenohfour · 08/12/2022 14:46

50's semi detached in Lancashire. House has had heating on all day currently 18 degrees. We don't have thermostat. I want it hotter, sick already of feeling like the Michelin man in my layers. My partner runs hot and I am always cold. We usually settle on getting the temp up to 19/20 and turning the heating off.

Xenia · 08/12/2022 16:39

This is the coldest day of the winter so far in our bit of outer London. It was 0C when I went out in the car earlier. I have been able to get my office to over 20C with the fan heater today however and as it's 4.30pm the heating is going on now for the evening. It will be the first month the bill will be higher (as I am billing as we go monthly now) so will be interesting to compare with the month before (probably going to be horrendously higher)

AlwaysFullOfQuestions22 · 08/12/2022 16:49

12 without heating. 17 with. Its - 3out today. Watching smart meter go up is scary! Too scared to go above 17

Mentalpiece · 08/12/2022 17:44

The thermometer is telling me it's 26degs in my home.
I have coal fired central heating so no thermostat.
Four bedroom bungalow.

70sShmeventies · 10/12/2022 09:01

Woke up today to 14 degrees on the thermostat. Heating on for an hour and it’s only at 15.

17, I left it on overnight at 17 as it took a while to heat up yesterday. It’s very pleasant.
