What’s the temperature in your home?

I’m curious. What temperature is your home right now and where in the country are you? What sort of property do you live in?

4 bed 70s detached in the southeast and we are 18 degrees after having the heating on for a couple of hours earlier. Without hearing we were at 17 degrees.

Just put the heating up to 20c, it's cold outside and started to have snow flurries.

NoelNoNoel · 06/12/2022 16:15

Perfect 18 for me. I’ll turn it up to 19 in the evening.

purpleme12 · 06/12/2022 16:21

We go to our local warm space but we're the only ones there ☹️

ReedOfFate · 06/12/2022 16:27

Mine’s 12.5 at the moment (gone down gradually during the day from 17.5 this morning, when everyone left for school work except me).

I didn’t feel cold until it got to about 14 degrees early pm and I was sitting at my desk; then I had to go out and when I got back I was doing various chores so again wasn’t cold. It’s freezing now so I’m whacking on the boiler and hopefully it will feel warmish when everyone’s back at 6-30pm.

GreenWhiteViolet · 06/12/2022 16:33

12.5 here. 1930s end of terrace, have the heating on for a couple of hours in the evening every few days at the moment which brings it back up to 15 or so.

Colder than previous years but I'm wearing an extra layer and feel fine.

pointythings · 06/12/2022 16:35

Going down to 14 overnight, expect that to drop given the forecast. Thermostat set to 17.5 for the hours the heating is on, which is doable. Still going to be a rough winter.

PaperMonster · 06/12/2022 16:37

Child and myself are currently in bed poorly. The temp is 15 and we have a window open. No idea about the rest of the house.

Turquoisa80 · 06/12/2022 16:41

Its 17.8 degrees.. Its okay if I'm busy but when sitting on the sofa it does feel cold.

Greeneyegirl · 06/12/2022 16:42

South east, 2 bed semi. Living room is always about 17 with fire on and bedroom directly above is 15 but rest of house around 13 degrees.

Frith2013 · 06/12/2022 16:44

16 during the evening. 12 the rest of the time. No money for more.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 06/12/2022 16:45

I suspect it a degree or two above absolute zero. I'm so bloody cold.

AlexandraPeppernose · 06/12/2022 16:46

15.4 but heating went on at 4.30 @ 18.0 so will be toasty soon

Footballmyarse · 06/12/2022 17:07

Results of my experiment are in.

So, a random day last week:

Heating was on for 2 hours in morning, 2 hours at night at 18. Did fuck all really, I don’t know why we jothered. It got warm for about 20 mins, then was cold again as soon as it was off. House felt damp all the time. Hallway/kitchen unbearably cold in the evenings.

We had the electric heater on in the lounge in the day, more often than not for me a toddler dd. I wouldn’t bother if it was me, but I can’t have my 2 year old cold all day. Dh working in his office upstairs freezing his arse off. 20 year old son was doing uni work from home in his room wrapped up like a mummy or in the lounge with me and dd (although work in here or she will not leave his laptop alone and he needs to speak). Tumble drier used for one load.

Total gas £3.50 electric £9.86 total £13.36

Yesterday - heating set to 18 all day 7am - 8.30pm. Tumble drier once, no electric heater used at all, not needed. Everyone comfortable all over the house. The warmth seemed to stay over night. That awful damp feeling gone from the air.

Total gas £6.38, electric £4.66 total £11.04

Footballmyarse · 06/12/2022 17:10

So I am basically saving by not using the electric heater I know. But It’s better for the whole house to be warm and that horrid damp feeling to be gone from the air.

Workinghardeveryday · 07/12/2022 07:24

That is brilliant news!

thank you so much for sharing 😁

cobblers123 · 07/12/2022 08:56

I am putting thermostat up to 18 so that the heating will kick in during the day. I've been doing this for about six days.

I can afford the bills at the moment so will continue to leave at 18 during the day and just switch it down to 14 when I go to bed.

I am sending my meter readings to Octopus every 15 days so I can keep a check on what I'm using. I have £500 in credit and December and January are usually my worst months in any year so hopefully I can cover these months fairly easily.

YorkieTheRabbit · 07/12/2022 09:31

It’s very frosty out and 1 degree, not supposed to get above 2 all day. The heating is on and hive thermostat shows the room is 17.5.

MrsSkylerWhite · 07/12/2022 09:32

16, NW England coast.

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 07/12/2022 09:51

Heating set at 18 and that just about keeps it comfortable

Notcontent · 07/12/2022 10:01

I was going to have my heating off until the evening but have just put it in as I am really cold despite wearing lots of layers.

fUNNYfACE36 · 07/12/2022 10:39

19 in the evening after dd comes home, not heated in the day just lots of layers of clothes

70sShmeventies · 07/12/2022 12:48

At the moment, without any heating on for a while, our house’s natural resting temperature is around 17°. I’m thinking about leaving the thermostat on at 18° so the boiler doesn’t have to work so hard and hopefully save some money. But what is the magic temperature that means your house doesn’t have that cold, damp feel? Is 18 too high or too low?

Basement flat central London. Very cold 10°C now, 2°C at night. I only put heating on at night for 2 hours. Can't afford the bills. I'm 68 and looking for a warm space to go to round here but warmspaceuk website has crashed. The lower temperatures forecast for this week are going to kill me.

purpleme12 · 07/12/2022 13:01

Yes go to the warm space.
I've been to ours and we're the only ones there. They'd probably be glad of people actually using it I want to try another one. Wondering if that will have no people as well
