Just that really. Need inspiration for my parents, both mid-late 60s and would love to hear what others are buying Smile

My mum needs a new tablet but I’ve no idea which one to go for…

Blueuggboots · 04/12/2022 21:25

I got my mum some cashmere wrist warmers because she's always cold and never stops going on about it

I'm buying my dad and his girlfriend a nice cheese hamper.

caringcarer · 04/12/2022 21:27

Both my parents have died but bought mil a mobility scooter.

HowCanIPayItForward · 04/12/2022 21:29

I've got mum a hairdryer after she raved about mine and realised how crap hers is in comparison.
Dad has asked for cash towards an expensive sound bar for the TV.
We'll also get them each their favourite sweets from the grandchildren.

Usernameismyname01 · 04/12/2022 21:33

Afternoon tea voucher

MojoJojo71 · 04/12/2022 21:36

My dad is getting a jumper, slippers, a book and a hamper of his favourite toffees

I'm struggling for my mum but I’m thinking of getting her either theatre vouchers or a monthly flower subscription

MarmiteCoriander · 04/12/2022 21:37

This year I have no idea, but some things I've got in the past for DH's mum, step mum/step dad etc:

  • Food/wine hamper I put together myself using either 2nd had basket or one from iceland/asda etc including a box of glace marron which MIL loves
  • SAD lamp, wheat bag and heated shoulder wrap for MIL with arthritic/painful neck and shoulders
  • Night away at a nice hotel
  • Voucher for a nice restaurant
  • Gold leaf gardening gloves, secateurs and Wolff brand rake
  • Fold out, leather type toiletry bag for FIL to take on a cruise and hang on the hook on the cabin door
  • Bottle of whiskey/gin/tipple of choice
Piplette · 04/12/2022 21:40

I usually go for the standard food hamper and dinner vouchers. A bit unimaginative but they seem to like it.

Squeezedsquash · 04/12/2022 21:45

No idea. My dad is on a restricted diet due to a stoma. Neither have any hobbies - usually eating out is doable but not this year. They have drastically downsized and got rid of >50% of their stuff. They’re the sort who’ll go “I’ve bought a jumper you can pay for that” to my sister who will in return say “I’ve bought a jumper you can pay for that” and then exchange the money and I roll my eyes and say ffs that is not what it’s about but if I don’t give them anything they’ll be upset they’ve not had anything.

My mum asked for a jml handy stitch so i bought her that and a set of different coloured threads. Also got her a jigsaw, chocolate, calender with the kids on and a book. Did get her an electric throw but gave it to her early because its so cold.

DearBangtan7 · 04/12/2022 21:45

Mum has asked for books this year, so I purchased two from her wishlist and then i wondered past a little boutique store and saw a sweet little christmas tea light holder, so purchased that as well.
Dad has asked for CDs this year, so I purchased one from his wishlist and he"ll also get some chocolates.
Stepdad needs a new pair of headphones 🎧 so I was able to pick up some nicer ones during the sales and I'll add some chocolates too.

mondaytosunday · 04/12/2022 21:48

My parents long gone but I buy my mil (in her 90s) a Christmas bouquet a couple days before for her table. She doesn't need any more stuff.
For her last few Christmases presents for my mum were: framed photos of the grandkids; a very snuggly dressing gown; an easy to pull on outfit from her favourite shop.
Other ideas: Cheese board and set of cheese knives
Twelve days of Christmas flavoured vodka set
Unique hand turned wooden bowl

jocktamsonsbairn · 04/12/2022 21:49

My db and I have paid for a few days away with theatre trip for birthdays and Christmas. We've also got them fancy advents for birthdays - mum l'occitane and dad a 12 days of whisky. For Christmas ddad has a bottle of whisky (theme here!!) he likes and mum is getting earrings from me and a book, chocolates and a bird watching box thing from db.

QueenBeex · 04/12/2022 21:51

Dad is getting adopted a vine at a local vinyard, you get a tour, tasting, lunch and a bottle with that. Also getting a book

I think DH has got his parents theatre vouchers

interstatelovesong · 04/12/2022 21:56

Theatre vouchers for my parents (65 and 68)

WGACA · 04/12/2022 21:58

Theatre tickets here too!

anyoldname76 · 04/12/2022 22:00

Ive bought my parents a Primark oodie each, plus I'm doing them a stocking each with chocolate, perfume/aftershave, slippers, mini jigsaw for my mum, Lego for my dad, bath bomb and some gloves.

AutisticLegoLover · 04/12/2022 22:12

@HowCanIPayItForward what hairdryer do you have?

I've only got my mum now and have got her:

Bird feeding station and food for it
A bottle of favourite liqueur
Kilmer jar full of her favourite candy
Chocolates of various types-Swiss, Belgian, and Italian Neapolitans from Fortnum and Mason as a luxury treat
Cashmere wrist warmers
Bed Jacket
Special Christmas ornament

I'll get her some Christmas books too.

AutisticLegoLover · 04/12/2022 22:14

Mum will have stocking and whatever from that list that will fit in it will go in along with chocolate coins and a tangerine. The rest goes in a Christmas sack. If she's been a good girl Father Christmas will leave her something under the tree.

Helpwithdaughterpls · 04/12/2022 22:45

Goodness nothing, they don't need anything and hate excess stuff,

They don't buy for me either

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 04/12/2022 22:48

Each getting a jumper and a book.

DinosApple · 04/12/2022 23:37

Whiskey and chocs for dad, cognac and perfume for mum.

Icanflyhigh · 04/12/2022 23:57

My mum died a few months ago. Found the perfect Christmas present for her this weekend and sobbed my heart out in the shop, then felt stupid. Nice gift set of wine for my dad, and my time - it's the best gift I can give him.

Ilovetocrochet · 05/12/2022 00:31

I’m also facing the first Christmas without mum, I thought I was fine but am struggling a bit now as I realise I don’t need to buy a present for her. In reality we lost her to dementia a few years ago but even when she was living in a care home, I still enjoyed buying her nice jumpers or crocheting her a blanket etc.

My mum was hard to but for, she had more money than me and tended to just buy anything she needed but I found the best present was putting together a hamper of cheeses, chutney and crackers which we could share together for lunch. She also enjoyed being taken out for afternoon tea so vouchers for that went down well. My sisters used to buy her favourite perfume from duty free and my brother tended to buy her decent wine to drink when he visited.

Anything that we could enjoy together basically
