What are you buying your parents for Christmas?

Just that really. Need inspiration for my parents, both mid-late 60s and would love to hear what others are buying Smile

DM in her 80s and spends a lot of time caring for my stepdad (similar age, v poor health). Small house and limited opportunities to enjoy themselves.

they will be fine over Xmas as plenty of family around but it’s January they’ll find hard so I’m making a January advent box with a small/medium present to open each day (wrapped and decorated by the kids)

I’m trying to get a mix of fun, practical, food, garden stuff etc and it’s been great fun finding things. So far I’ve got a bag of crushed seashells for their plants, plant pot, strawberry jam, local apple juice, lavender and a bird feeder. Plan to also get calendar with pics of kids, chocs, magazines, puzzle books and maybe a gift voucher for a shop local to them. Any more suggestions greatly appreciated!

Babyliss 3Q, it's so good.

HowCanIPayItForward · 05/12/2022 03:02

Sorry, that was in reply to @AutisticLegoLover

Woolandwonder · 05/12/2022 03:05

Mum has a jumper, some face cream she really likes and some pasta bowls. Dad also has a jumper, a mug and a share in the pasta bowls.

FixItUpChappie · 05/12/2022 03:11

I got them a micro mink sheet set and a box of chocolates. I bought a set of the sheets for myself too and they are lux I'm in love with them - hopefully they will like them too

PennyPinkleton · 05/12/2022 07:08

My DP have both asked for comfy joggers for around the house. I’m also getting them a heated throw each for when they’re watching TV. My adorable DP are both 72 🎅

MassiveSalad22 · 05/12/2022 07:10

Mid 60s
Dad - fab shirt
Mum - massage voucher, and some earrings just so she has something to unwrap but have realised she won’t like them as they’re not sterling silver.

A monthly subscription to a posh coffee delivery service. A different packet of beans delivered each month for their ritual morning coffee. I bought a 3 month version for Father’s Day and they loved it, their choice to have another subscription. Apparently the coffees all really did taste different and they enjoyed being pushed beyond the usual arabica blend from Sainsburys 😀

OldTinHat · 05/12/2022 07:43

A festive pie pack from a company they've always wanted to try.

ifonly4 · 05/12/2022 07:52

DM only has us that buy for her, so usually a few bits and pieces. I've got her a shopping bag (similar to one she wants a replacement for and I can't find!), a book she wants, M&S shortbread box, M&S mini reindeer and some handcream. I usually get her flowers as well.

Hedonism · 05/12/2022 07:58

I want to get a heated gilet for my Dad, but there are so many options on Amazon that I am stuck on knowing which one to choose! They all look the same but wildly different prices 😕

SushiSuave · 05/12/2022 08:02

I've got a theatre gift card towards their next theatre trip and a tea-towel with DSs fingerprint Christmas design. Hard to know what to get them.

AmberGer · 05/12/2022 08:12

All in their 60's;
In-laws, we're making a boozy hamper with bar snacks.
Dad and his partner, A bird feeding table,
Patio heater (bought it cheap when they were selling them off in aldi), yankee candle and my dad a make your own arcade game thing made by Haynes (the car manual company).
Step dad, electric blanket and a Christmas jumper.
Mum, a wreath for her grave.

DashingWhiteSergeant · 05/12/2022 08:24

A Brian Bilston poetry book, a jigsaw, a pretty vase she wanted and a little personalised snow globe

I've been trying to figure these out too as I wanted to buy one for my dad.
It seems many don't come with the battery packs. I'm also worried they're cheap electrical rubbish that hasn't been UK safety tested as they all seem a bit knock off to me.

Maybe a solar light for the garden, fat balls to hang up, small note book to keep near the phone, mugs or a scarf each.

My Dad is 83 and is the man "who has everything" so he's difficult to buy for. He used to love books but Alzheimer's means he finds it difficult to concentrate. So this year I am making up a hamper of his favourite wine, chocolate, cheeses etc. I know he will appreciate this more than stuff he doesn't need.

I've bought my Stepmum a beauty box. My own Mum has long passed away but that is definitely something she'd also have appreciated! She used to love Lancome or Clarins sets too.

LolaBlue36 · 05/12/2022 11:03

Thanks everyone for the replies, some great inspiration! And sorry to those who don't have parents to buy for, I hope I didn't offend anyone x

Digital picture frame that can be uploaded from an app

LBOCS2 · 05/12/2022 11:22

My dad is getting a Hori Hori (Japanese trowel) as he's a very keen gardener. My stepmum will be getting a heated blanket and some cashmere wrist warmers; she's recently gone into blood thinners and it's apparently making her feel the cold. They've also requested a pasta cutting attachment for their kitchenaid.

Carlycat · 05/12/2022 14:26

Several donations to her chosen local animal charities. We've got to an age where we really don't need any more ' stuff '

QueenWenceslas · 05/12/2022 14:31

My mums mid sixties and I’ve bought her a lovely new fluffy dressing gown with matching slippers from Boux Avenue and a gift set of Benefit mascaras.

Dad’s sadly no longer here.

ShakeYourFeathers · 05/12/2022 14:33

Mum wants some new plates... very specific plates which are proving very tricky to find

Dad- no idea

anyoldname76 · 08/12/2022 20:19

Ive bought my mum and dad a Primark oodie each, then I've filled them a stocking each with slippers, fluffy socks, aftershave/perfume, chocolate reindeer, a multitool gadget for my dad and hand cream for my mum

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 08/12/2022 20:23

I was wondering what to get parents too but think I’m getting them a voucher to the only restaurant (expensive French restaurant) which they both go to and love.

Extra for DM, jumper but haven’t found a nice one yet. Have got her a necklace, sunflower glass ornament and puppet. Stepdad no idea but probably include garden centre voucher.
