What is your oldest everyday item of clothing?

I have been trying harder since the pandemic to wear everything I own to death before I get new.

My two - oldest bra is as old as my eldest child (19) I have a nightshirt that's not that much younger. The more tatty they get the more comfy they are. The shame!

I think my dressing gown. It's about 15.

Pythonese · 02/12/2022 21:11

Hunter wellies, must be 20 years old.

PerrinAybara · 02/12/2022 21:12

I have a sweatshirt that's about 33 years old. It is so comfy. But it is too tatty to wear outside the house although it has been known.

grafittiartist · 02/12/2022 21:13

Lots of items.
I wore a cardigan yesterday that I'd bought in the mid 90's from the charity shop- so who knows how old it is!!
Plenty of clothes in my wardrobe like that.

grafittiartist · 02/12/2022 21:13

A dress of my granny's that I occasionally wear to party's.

SkiingIsHeaven · 02/12/2022 21:16

I have a grey hoodie that is 33 years old. It is like a comfort blanket. It's worn through in places and the cuffs are falling apart but I wear it most weeks. I just love it.

I’ve got a fleece which is not the height of fashion but is ok for a fleece, that I wore when I was pregnant with my eldest, in fact in the few preceding years. He is 23 soon.

DoNotEatPickles · 02/12/2022 21:21

I have a couple of skirts and jumpers I got when I about 15, I’m 42 now. Many of my clothes are from my late teens/early twenties when I was a live in nanny with no bills.

BigFatLiar · 02/12/2022 21:21

I have a couple of dresses fron the early 90s, I still wear them, they're nice and comfy, dh says they're pretty on me.
DH has some polo shirts and t-shirts and a jacket he wears for gardening which HD got in the early 70s, they don't fit and aren't in great condition but he will wear them. His overalls must be 30 years or more old. He has some sort of fear of new clothes.

I’ve owned my dressing gown since the age of 12! It’s really heavy and still pretty soft too. It was originally from Debenhams, gutted I won’t be able to replace it with a similar one. All dressing gowns seem to be made much thinner now…

DoNotEatPickles · 02/12/2022 21:27

DD, born in 2015, had several hand knitted baby cardigans made by my grandmother for DB and me in the late 70s/early 80s. DM had kept them. Was lovely to have them as DG died when I was a teenager. I have however hidden much of the very 80s shop bought girls clothing DM also gleefully passed on.

IncessantNameChanger · 02/12/2022 21:30

I put my dd in some of my baby clothes when she was a newborn. They was even made in the UK!

I got a nice thick one from Asda earlier this year, had been putting off replacing my old one for similar reasons.

I have a pair of socks my brothers girlfriend bought me when I was 13. I’m 43 now. I wear them
occasionally and then they get relegated to the bottom of the sock box so don’t get many wears! I also have a teletubbies towel my friends bought me for a joke for my 18th birthday to take to faliraki ! so that’s 25years old! I love them! Lush memories!

Mossstitch · 02/12/2022 21:45

Pair of black leather lace up boots from M & S (a bit like a more dressy pair of DMs) that I bought pre kids......... My eldest is 39😳

My Led Zeppelin t shirt that my aunty bought me when I was 15. I'm 57 now and wear it regularly ( with my obligatory biker jacket, old Levi's and docs! ) on fact I'm wearing it to a gig tonight!

Who are seeing?

ninjafoodienovice · 02/12/2022 22:00

A Miss Sixty denim jacket that I bought from House of Fraser in Oxford Street when I first moved to London in 2000

I'm wondering today how long my Primark fake Oodie will last? I'm predicting this favourite will be with me forever.

Some of my oldest sons underwear has also been passed down to his his younger brothers. They would all be utterly horrified so I hope they don't suss out that sometimes the 15 and 19 year old wear each other underwear.

My mum still regularly wears the nightie she wore while giving birth to me almost 30 years ago Grin it says ‘Special Delivery’ on it 🥲

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 03/12/2022 15:07

A sweatshirt that I had for school, I think it was year 8 that I got it, so aged 12/13. It came from Primark.

I'm 43 😳

My Mum bought stuff with plenty of growing room.

mamabear715 · 03/12/2022 15:12

Loving this thread, @IncessantNameChanger thanks!
My fave is the bright orange coat I bought from Debenhams probably not long before my twins were born.. they are 27. I do look after it though, my coats live on hangers in the wardrobe if they are 'going out' coats - the rest are slung on hooks in the hall, including a burgundy one I bought in about 1990. Still going strong, despite having had to have a new zip around 2008.. ;-)

I am MOST impressed by a PP's old bra! Mine look all bitty, washed -out, & the elastic goes horrid after no time at all.. I don't mind forking out for things people can SEE, but having to pay a lot for a bra goes through me!

mamabear715 · 03/12/2022 15:13

Lol, @JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon have you grown into it yet? :-)

Theheartsinvisiblefuries · 03/12/2022 15:15

I have a Levi's denim jacket that I bought when I was 16. I'm 61 now. My sons regularly borrow it.

Madcats · 03/12/2022 15:21

I have a 40 year old Barbour jacket from my 'job in the City' days. It has been mended a couple of times and makes a brilliant gardening jacket.

I have some Rohan stuff that I first used on safaris last century. Goodness knows what the stuff is made of as they are still going strong.

A pair of jeans only ever seem to last me two or three years.
