Films you've watched but have no idea what they're about

DH has got Con Air on. This is one of these films that's always on TV...technically I must have watched it about 20 times but I still couldn't tell you what it's about other than a load of aggressive blokes on a plane Confused

What films have you seen loads of times yet could not tell anyone the plot of?

Mother with Jennifer Lawrence.

The only film that both myself and DH said we wanted to walk out of, but unfortunately only after we'd sat through it.

HouseInChaos · 30/11/2022 07:39

Definitely Mulholland Drive. Unfortunately I couldn't distinguish between the two blonde female leads which didn't help. I keep meaning to try watching it again and really concentrating but can't find the mental energy it would require.

Dozycuntlaters · 30/11/2022 07:44

Vanilla sky..... what the fuck was that all about.

I get confused during a majority of sci fi but that's because I hate it and can't be bothered to watch it properly. Dune was bloody awful, such a waste of two hours of my life!

Con Air was great though.

The Lobster, felt like it had no point at all. I was very hungover though so that probably didn't help.

DuncanBiscuits · 30/11/2022 07:48

Most of The Wire.

You know that conversation that came up at every middle class gathering about fifteen years ago? The, ‘You’re confused for the first half hour or so, but then you tune into the accent and it all becomes clear and you’re gripped’ one?

Still waiting.

Any. ANY James Bond.

The more recent they are the more baffled I am by what the fuck is going on. No clue what was happening in Quantum of Solace at all. Which reminds me of Joe of Adam and Joe's reimagining of the title song
"I need a quantum of solace
But only a quantum
I know they sell big bags of solace
But I don't want 'em"
Grin

Ha! I still sing that whenever I see anything about Quantum of Solace!

I miss Adam and Joe on a Saturday…

I also couldn't tell you the storyline of Star Wars, despite watching them so many times.

Lots of people have Daddy issues, that’s basically it

Namaste6 · 30/11/2022 08:02

Tennet. Utter garbage. DS and DH both loved it and raved about it, but I was clueless.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 30/11/2022 08:04

Yes, why do so many film actors and actresses ( I do know it’s respectful to call them all actors now, although why actresses isn’t a correct definition….) look so similar? This is the case on tv too, especially if you don’t have a room dominating screen. If you can’t see who is who, how can you follow the ‘plot’ ?

there used to be a convention on stage where opposing factions wore different colours ( v helpful in Wars of the Roses etc). At least you can tell the baddies in Star Wars , even if you can’t see their faces ( I’ve only seen the first four, though, gave up with the silly horse thing).

I wish no one had reminded me about Dune.

Lost In Translation. The most aptly titled film ever

Ha!
Totally agree.
What was that?

VladsPants · 30/11/2022 08:12

Harry Potter.

I get the general premise but the films seem to jump into things without explaining them properly.

And I’ve tried very hard but still don’t know if Snape is a goodie or a baddie.

I’ve read the first couple of books so those films make sense but the others? Maybe I’d be better with the extended versions of such things exist.

EvilRingahBitch · 30/11/2022 08:16

I could give you a brisk two minute synopsis on Tenet, The Matrix, Inception and the complete Infinity Stones arc from the Marvel movies, but Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace defeated me., mostly because I couldn't bring myself to give a toss.

It's meant to be ambiguous about Snape for the big reveal in the Deathly Hallows. I remember reading Alan Rickman was told who how his character would pan out so he played the is he/isn't he up.

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 30/11/2022 08:22

I love Raiders of the Lost sark. It's a fabulously reimagine B movie and Harrison Ford is superb. But never think about the plot too closely because actually if Indiana had done nothing at all - just stayed at home teaching for example - the end result would have been exactly the same.

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 30/11/2022 08:22

Lost Ark - I should always proof read!

Icequeen01 · 30/11/2022 08:23

Don't Worry Darling with Harry Styles

No bloody clue what that was about!

Blainesmaries · 30/11/2022 08:24

The lighthouse.

Yeah but I’ve seen Deathly Hallows several times and I’m still not sure 😫

Children of the Corn

Tripsabroad · 30/11/2022 09:06

The Thin Red Line. So boring. It's about war and that's all I can tell you.

Most stuff by Christopher Nolan. Especially Dunkirk - I thought there were three ships that got blown up rather than the same one being blown up multiple times. So confusing.

It's explicitly said in the books that the world isn't divided neatly into good and bad people. Umbridge isn't a goody, despite being on the side against Voldemort. Snape is a goody, but still a nasty person.
