Films you've watched but have no idea what they're about

DH has got Con Air on. This is one of these films that's always on TV...technically I must have watched it about 20 times but I still couldn't tell you what it's about other than a load of aggressive blokes on a plane Confused

What films have you seen loads of times yet could not tell anyone the plot of?

Memento. Make my head swim and although I know what happened (sort of) I have no idea of how why or where it happened. It was really a 'choppy' film jumping from one viewpoint to another.

Swiss Army Man. What the fuck?

Memento - the scenes are shown in reverse order. So you watch the end of the story first and eventually the beginning of the story is shown last (where you find out why everything his happened). The guy has short term memory loss, so you're experiencing things as he would - no idea what's happened before the scene you're watching.

Raiders of the Lost Ark

The Nazis are looking for the Ark of the covenant. It's late 1930s so they are building an army and think it will make them invincible.

Indiana Jones is a sort of archeologist except he is staling artifacts.
US government think Jones old mentor is working with the Nazis.

Jones goes to a bar finds his mentor's daughter, finds out mentor is dead.

Nazis capture Jones and mentor's daughter and open the Ark.

Spirits come out of the Ark and kill Nazis, Jones and mentor's daughter close their eyes so they survive.

But each event seems to be in a different country.

Inception I have no idea.

I recently watched Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and never was a film more aptly titled. I had no idea who anyone was or what was going on throughout the entire film. My sons seemed to enjoy it though.
Actually I'm pretty nonplussed by more or less all the Marvel movies that I have been forced to watch to see.

Hitch Hiker's Guide.

Mind bogglingly dull with no plot whatsoever. It sent me to sleep and my then boyfriend said I'd done it on purpose, and sulked. 😃

The Hitchhiker's movie is appallingly bad. Watch the TV series, or read the books. Genius.
Not a movie, but the latest Star Wars thing Andor. There's just too much Star Wars now. I didn't have a clue what was going on.

2001 : A Space Odyssey

The Matrix. Not a clue what was going on with that film.

Late showing of Eraserhead after a night in the pub. Couldn't understand it, I just felt pinned in my seat and scaredk

Olivetreebutter · 30/11/2022 05:24

Not a film but a show -
I've just watched The English on BBC. 6 episodes. Even by the last episode I was sitting there thinking I hadn't got a bloody clue what was happening. I didn't even understand the sentences they were speaking. I had no idea why certain characters had to do particular things, or why they felt a particular way. I only watched all 6 episodes in the hope that all would become clear. It didn't.. and yet I heard people of radio 2 talking about how wonderful it was.

In my opinion con Air is a best movie

SquirrelFan · 30/11/2022 06:22

Almost any war film - if everyone has the same haircut I'm doomed!
Almost anything with Matt Damon (especially if Mark Wahlberg is also in it)
Finally, The Draughtsman's Contract. So utterly dull (and I like proper period films).
I like Con Air if only for the line, "It's not all mai tais and Yahtzee down here." Cracks me up every time....

CryCeratops · 30/11/2022 06:29

Just about every single Bond film. They all blend into one big Bondy blob in my head. Despite DH regularly insisting on us rewatching them.
The only one of them I could have a half decent stab at explaining the plot of would be Casino Royale.

PollyPaintsFlowers · 30/11/2022 06:33

Donnie Darko

LadyHarmby · 30/11/2022 06:34

I never understand the stock market bit at the end of Trading Places. I think I get it and then instantly forget again.

MilkyWaytoday · 30/11/2022 06:36

Moonwalker with Michael Jackson many years ago. No plot whatsoever just confused from beginning to end.

Stokey · 30/11/2022 06:38

Agree with Tenet. The sound quality is appalling. I gave up.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 30/11/2022 06:45

Ugh Lost in Translation. I understand it fine, I'm just bloody sick of middle aged men and their mid life crises which always involve pouty undergraduates.

RoachTheHorse · 30/11/2022 06:52

Eraserhead was confusing.

Con Air is class- love it

Raiders is great too.

And all the James Bond's

To be fair, the storylines of things like Con Air etc aren't difficult but you have to be interested enough in the film to listen so you pick it up. If lots of shouty men on a plane isn't your thing, which would be very understandable, then you're going to miss the few bits that tell the story.

Just put the bunny back in the box...

Snnowflake · 30/11/2022 07:05

Shutter Isalnd was Leonardo Di Caprio in a mental institution. Can't remember finding the story hard to follow.
The Royal Tannenbaums - no idea what that was about but I may have dozed off (in the cinema).

Snnowflake · 30/11/2022 07:06

Goldfinger was the best Bond film. I was early teens when it came out - nice Sean Connery and great music. And obvious baddies.
The rest are just too boring to follow imv.

PermanentTemporary · 30/11/2022 07:09

Taxi Driver. Though I don't think the plot is the point. Maybe.

PuppyMonkey · 30/11/2022 07:10

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Part if it is a dream or something? I never pay attention at the crucial bit. I hate that film.

BemusedBrenda · 30/11/2022 07:24

I completely agree with PPs on the Marvel / Avengers films. I find them quite boring, all action, convoluted plot that make no sense....I recently found out that they are all supposed to be connected with some kind of ongoing plotline and I was amazed. I must have seen about 10 over the years and I would never have guessed.

I'm in this boat. One I can't work out which character is which I'm doomed. Also, oddly, also more common for me with Matt Damon.

Give me something like The Departed with Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio and Donnie or Mark Wahlberg (it's possibly both of them) some of who are playing characters that are pretending to be someone they aren't. I don't have a clue who's who, so can't follow it at all; does seem like a good film though.

I need a character bio to appear when a character is on screen. Just a short one, flashed up briefly.
