Films that you thought you'd love but didn't.

Which films disappointed you? I mean films that you were excited to see but they didn't live up to expectations?

Amadeus was one for me. It ticked so many boxes but I really didn't enjoy it and it took me 4 attempts to watch it all. Mozart was so incredibly annoying, I appreciate that was the point but he was so obnoxious that I struggled to watch him and I found the whole thing dull. It's so far from being a bad movie but it's just not for me.

Singing In The Rain didn't really live up to expectations either as a big fan of old movies and musicals. It was ok and I could admire the work put into it and the talent but it didn't really make me feel anything .

Oh and Star Wars the Last Jedi, I had so much hope from the force awakens and it was such a mess.

Blade runner 2049

Love the original and heard good things about this but did nothing for me.

The movie Mozart was blasphemous to what he intended. They hired an actor to act like Salieri was right, it was all just his sick joke. Nobody was supposed to find out or care about that part.
Ask your 5-year old's who they think is better, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star by Mozart when he was 5, while the recording industry was sheet music, or the grownups who wrote The Toy Story songs?
Mozart would not have looked like that, or acted like that. He just thought he was too good for people to care about that part.

I feel really poorly educated reading this. Please can you explain?

Because it’s lazy misogyny wrapped up in sugary sentimentality, and virtually everyone involved is phoning it in, including a lot of people who know better.? You’re entirely right not to like it.

Exactly. My sister loves that film and I had to sit through it one godawful Christmas. Hated every minute. Horrible film.

I started watching the Holmes film Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law were in. Lasted twenty, maybe thirty minutes. Garbage story, inaudible dialogue, ridiculous costumes, and turning Irene Adler into a comic-book criminal was just too much.

Pulp Fiction.

Biggest load of boring crap I've ever seen.

Haha I totally agree. And reservoir dogs. I realised I don't like Tarantino films.

Bridget Jones's Diary. Another twenty minutes I'll never get back.

The Da Vinci Code was totally ruined for me by jowly dumb-looking Tom Hanks and in the same vein, bloody Kenneth Branagh as Poirot - ugh so irritating - top notch cast and production totally wasted because Branagh just plays himself in everything he does.

Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. There’s something about that book/radio series that makes it unfilmable. Maybe they need to turn it into a cartoon series like Futurama or something? I liked the 1980s TV series but it suffered from cheap production values and outdated special effects.

We opted to watch the film on DVD rather than seeing it in the cinema; wise choice after the disappointment of the gimmicky Hollywood casting and the shoehorning of a ‘love interest’ storyline where none exists (because Trillian was of no significance whatever outside her attractiveness to Arthur and Zaphod, obvs.)

Yes yes yes. All of this.

Kenneth Branagh is a shite Poirot. It would always be hard to come close to Suchet, but he’s so far off it could be a different character.

Hanks was also such an odd choice for Langdon, who is supposed to be a good looking, athletic swimmer type. Then that…
