Films that you thought you'd love but didn't.

Which films disappointed you? I mean films that you were excited to see but they didn't live up to expectations?

Amadeus was one for me. It ticked so many boxes but I really didn't enjoy it and it took me 4 attempts to watch it all. Mozart was so incredibly annoying, I appreciate that was the point but he was so obnoxious that I struggled to watch him and I found the whole thing dull. It's so far from being a bad movie but it's just not for me.

Singing In The Rain didn't really live up to expectations either as a big fan of old movies and musicals. It was ok and I could admire the work put into it and the talent but it didn't really make me feel anything .

Disenchanted, I was so excited but it was so blah

Passtheduchyonthelefthandside · 29/11/2022 21:36

Oh I absolutely love la la land. I could rewatch it again and again.

the80sweregreat · 29/11/2022 21:38

Bridesmaids was awful
Especially the toilet scene

the80sweregreat · 29/11/2022 21:38

La la land has the best ending of any film.
The rest of it was annoying

ZombieKettle · 29/11/2022 21:39

See How They Run. I laughed only once. I found the film completely flat and was so disappointed.

monty09 · 29/11/2022 21:43

Girl on a train
My sisters keeper
Me before you
PS I love you

Read all the books but the films just didn't live up to them.

Pirrin · 29/11/2022 21:46

I Capture The Castle.

I was very excited to see it after loving the book but it didn't match up at all.

The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus (or whatever it was called).

The trailer looked great so trotted off to see it in the cinema - neverending boring drivel.

HRTQueen · 29/11/2022 21:46

Where the Crawdads Sing was so bland

she was a feisty character I absolutely loved the book such vivid descriptions and her loneliness was so painful at times

but the film was just so dull

Bridesmaids, really looked forward to this after everyone going on about how hilarious it was.
It was shite.

I loved it and I loved Love Actually.

I will think of ones I didn't love so much.

Eleusa · 29/11/2022 21:52

Yes, Bridesmaids.

I fell asleep in Avatar, which was disappointing given how CD many people found it life-changing.

OneFrenchEgg · 29/11/2022 21:53

Lala Land - lasted five mins after being so excited
Amelie - left the cinema
The Last Jedi - is that the one with two minutes of Luke? Hated the weird ending.
Disenchanted. So boring.

Robin60 · 29/11/2022 22:01

I was really looking forward to watching The Banshee of Inisherin with Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson who I think are brilliant - the film was just nuts! I just didn’t ‘get’ it.

The Greatest Showman. I REALLY wanted to see it after seeing the trailer quite a few times. It was terrible (but with good music I admit).
Uncut Gems. Again, huge build up but in the end it was far too tense so I gave up.

I completely agree with Uncut Gems. Complete shite.

Interesting so many people hate La La Land. I wasn't sure about it first time I saw it but I've watched it a couple more times and it's grown on me a lot more.

MsNightingale · 29/11/2022 22:25

The King's Man. Loved the other Kingsman films, but this one didn't work for me.

Pugdogmom · 29/11/2022 22:26

I have a list.
One Day....it was so dreadful, I laughed at the " tragic" bit as was so random.
Avatar...awful
Les Miserables...at least it lived up to its name.
Titanic..should have been at least 90 minutes shorter.
Twilight movies....am sure I don't need to explain.
The Notebook...no I didn't cry, I nodded off.

Have also decided that I Really can't do musicals. All this bursting into song and then carry on with the movie like nothing happened...🤣

Thinkwicebeforeyouleavemylife · 29/11/2022 22:27

The kings speech.

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 29/11/2022 22:29

I*t was a while ago now, but PS I love you. Absolutely loved the book but hated the film.

Just come on to say exactly the same thing!

TrashyPanda · 29/11/2022 22:31

Les Mis - I was really looking forward to this, and have seen it many times on stage. what a chore to watch. Incredibly boring. Dreadful casting. And the ending so clearly filmed at Greenwich Naval College.

Titanic. Another slog in the cinema. Was muttering “hurry up and die” under my breath. Wondered why Rose hadn’t sold the pendant to give her kid a better life.

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 29/11/2022 22:31

Not sure what happened there!!

RenoDakota · 29/11/2022 22:34

Looked forward to Spencer but it was utter shite.

JubileeTrifle · 29/11/2022 22:35

The new version of Little Women. Awful.

surreygirl1987 · 29/11/2022 23:08

The Golden Compass. So disappointing.

treadcarefully · 29/11/2022 23:12

This is going back quite a long time. ET, never quite understood the hype and didn't cry at all.

Tummytroubles22 · 29/11/2022 23:15

A Star is Born, really wanted to love it but it was bland.

Wouldlovetobeinthesun · 29/11/2022 23:17

Chocolate because I loved the book. The film was rubbish, not least because it had Jonny Depp in it and in my head the male was older.
