That back with a bang text is unfortunate given what followed.

Agreed.

Also would be good to know if she texted positive updates about children……or if only negative

Hohohogreenjennie · 09/06/2023 15:01

Oh wow she’s admitted to lying to the jury about the nature of how she was arrested/what she was wearing.

Odd thing for her to do and it will make them question everything else she is saying.

MontagueLeo · 09/06/2023 15:10

Saying you were arrested wearing pyjamas when in fact you were wearing a nightie isn’t a massive leap

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 09/06/2023 18:00

I’ve not heard much on this case for ages and then it popped up somewhere.

I recall a few MMers last year were thinking she was innocent.

I don’t think that’s quite right is it?

Letby says the police knocked on her door at 6am when they arrested her. She says she thought she had a nightie and a tracksuit and trainers.
Mr Johnson says Letby was taken away in a blue Lee Cooper leisure suit. Letby says she is not sure. Mr Johnson says video footage can be played of her arrest. Letby agrees she was taken away in that leisure suit.
from the Chester standard

Surely it could be both?

She was in her nightie and the police let her put a tracksuit over it before she was led away? That's how I read it anyway.

To me leisure suits are the same as tracksuits.

I guess the prosecution are trying to discredit her but I think she's doing a grand job of that on her own.

maybe but as they offered to play the footage which she did not accept I took it to mean just the leisure suit?

For the 2019 arrest, Letby agrees she was not taken away in her pyjamas.
NJ: "Why did you lie to the jury about this?"
LL: "I don't know."
Letby says it was the first arrest when she was taken in her pyjamas.
NJ: "Do you want to watch the video?" Letby does not respond.

Usually I would agree but she always seems calm, even when the prosecution got a detail wrong the other day about her not being the designated nurse for one of the babies but it turns out she was to begin with but someone else took over later in her shift. The prosecution had to clarify it and says they were wrong. She genuinely didn't seem to know if she was or not and even said she could have been assisting the designated nurse.

I would assume she didn't want the footage playing as she seems very emotional about that time of her life (cried when her bedroom was shown etc...). In fact she seems to show more emotion over stuff like this than she has done for those babies.

Quitelikeit · 09/06/2023 21:26

More to the point her special
friend Dr A was in fact married - she was clearly having an affair with him!!

I mean there is no comparison to people who cheat and people who
murder babies but this shows she was deceitful

I thought we already knew he was married. Or maybe I just assumed from the "I would trust you looking after my kids" text message. Not that's kids equal marriage but I assumed a long term relationship.

Mmm interesting view. I would think that if you are sure you are right you would want the footage shown so that you can demonstrate your point so that the jury do not see it as you misleading people but we are all different.

I certainly would view it your way. I just find her reactions to things very odd. Vety self centred.

She really seems to hate her personal life being brought into this, perhaps it's her vulnerability, doesn't like people seeing her not in control...

Yes there do seem a lot of odd reactions as you say.

very sad situation for a lot of people

This really chilled me

I know I had to read it 3 times to really digest it. I was sure they had mistyped 'draft' and that it included the third triplet. They have said previously that she was trying to get attention however this is at a whole different level and suggests planning.

hopeidontforgetthisusername · 09/06/2023 22:01

Yes there has certainly been some surprising evidence presented. How difficult it must be for the poor families to have to hear all of it.

When the prosecution were asking about her "I'll never have children" note, they mentioned she had a boyfriend. I assume that's not Dr A? So if she was having an affair with him, she was cheating too?

Hohohogreenjennie · 09/06/2023 22:45

@LittleRedYoshi the Trial of Lucy Letby podcast have done a bonus episode about Doctor A today and have stated that “she appeared to accept that he (Doctor A) WAS her boyfriend” when discussing the “never have a family” note.

I’d be keen to know when that post it note was from

If that was written during her stint on the ward she is effectively demonstrating that they were somehow all going to die

I mean how could she have known that? Why on earth would you write that down? No matter how weird you were why write a note saying that sort of thing? That is just down right weird and thank god the last triplet survived but oh what a cruel blow to their parents

Also seeing a married man demonstrates a certain type of moral position! I mean she didn’t care about his children or think about them when she was risking their livelihood by carrying on with their father!!!!

Either way things still don’t stack up here…..

GemmaN17 · 10/06/2023 10:13

The note apparently says thinking of you on your birthday and includes the name of the surviving triplet, so it's yet another thing that makes no sense. I guess that would suggest it was written well after however, why include the name of the surviving twin as though they had passed too....

I don't think we will ever know.

PearWhere · 10/06/2023 10:45

It can all be spun either way.
She also included a colleague whose birthday was the same day in the birthday note.
To me a lot of leisure wear looks like pyjamas and she was arrested many times over the years.
If the 'affair' had happened I'd expect there would be more messages and Doctor A would be asked about it. The prosecution could've asked him if they thought it was important.
Or it could all be what the prosecution say.

The press obviously love the more headline grabbing details as sex sells more than post mortems. But hopefully the jury will be sensible and look at the medical details and other key details.
If I was a juror I'd put the medical as the main evidence. Of course we'll never know what the jury think and do.

Also reminder to please be careful as this thread will get pulled like previous ones. Some posters sailing very close to the wind here!!

Ah, I see - thanks for clarifying.

Itsnamechange · 10/06/2023 18:23

Just harking back to a previous few posts, sorry late to the thread. I believe in the uk barristers can't coach witnesses on testimony at all. Obviously they can go over all of the evidence but can't explain the questions they'll ask or rehearse what may be asked by the other side.
Barristers also can't give an opinion on whether an accused should testify. They can't point out the potential pitfalls but can't say if they should or shouldn't.

Prevmidwife · 13/06/2023 14:55

Is court on today? Can't find anything in news.
