DD’s nativity play - does cow person mean person dressed as a cow or politically correct cowboy?

DS once was chosen to be a "nativity animal" for which I needed to send in green clothes. That was a fun few weeks as he hadn't a clue what he was supposed to be, even rehearsals didn't give him any ideas.

Please tell me he was an iguana 😂🦎

Ostryga · 22/11/2022 19:10

Oh goodness! What did he end up being? As primary nativities go I’m guessing it could be anything from snake to seahorse 😂

His teacher said he was a goat.

Never seen a green goat myself and it's a religious school so the nativity is The Nativity.

TiaraBoo · 22/11/2022 20:19

My daughter was a cowgirl one year in the nativity!
I think the story may have been about Mary and Joseph travelling through time, can’t really remember. I just remember my cousin commenting about the Christmas cowboys on Facebook!

blueswans · 22/11/2022 20:21

DD once played a bauble in her ‘nativity’
complete with halloween pumpkin costume dyed red, sequins and glitter.

DS played an alien alongside a dinosaur, a Viking and a Greek god in the strangest Christmas play I’ve ever seen

BobbyBobbyBobby · 22/11/2022 20:25

Could be the role of someone who is a complete cow who turns Mary and Joseph away from their Inn so the couple and their donkey have to sleep in the stable.

woodhill · 22/11/2022 20:26

I'm sure I vaguely remember my dds line dancing to hillbilly rock in one nativity play.

The letter says your DC chose to be cow person, do they have any idea? I did a nativity once at a nursery and the kids chose what they wanted to be!

Dd had no idea she was in The Nativity until her teacher handed me the letter at pickup today! So I assume they’ve been given roles. They’re in yr 1.

My daughter was once " a girl from hawaii" 🤔

Thankfully back to being a shepherd the next year

Notanotherone6 · 22/11/2022 20:50

They surely wrote cow person because someone would be unnecessarily offended by the use of cowgirl or cowboy.

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/11/2022 20:53

Choconut · 22/11/2022 18:53

As a third option I'd wonder if they meant cowherd.

I would think this.

Badnewsoracle · 22/11/2022 22:55

I'd assume cowherder.

MossGrowsFat · 22/11/2022 23:04

I try and read a positive thread before bed and this has been the best one for ages.

Cow carer 😂

FrangipaniBlue · 23/11/2022 00:03

I think is could be one of my favourite ever MN threads!!

I've just woken DH snorting 😂

Was that "The Smallest Angel"?

Some of these twists on the nativity (The Grumpy Sheep, The Bossy Christmas Fairy etc) were written in the late eighties and nineties, they're not that new. Admittedly, I don't remember any cowboys or cowgirls. Perhaps they've had to think of some new ideas recently! Grin

Minotaur. Definitely a minotaur. There should always be a minotaur in a nativity.

Absolutely.
A collection of people and beasts with improbable conceptions from various cultures might be very educational, though maybe not suitable for KS1.

I agree unless it's some kind of cow version of Mr Tumnus?!
I think the latter, but thanks for the question OP it made me laugh!

I’m really pinning my hopes on a cow Mr T. Pls let us know..

Firen · 23/11/2022 00:23

well either it’s a cowboy/girl, but have made it sex neutral as either sex could play the part - but seems weird for a nativity. Or it’s a cow herder, but also weird for a nativity. I don’t think it’s particularly’ politically correct’ as they’re just saying the role is for a child of either sex. I mean both are odd for a nativity, but I once played a seahorse, so who knows?!!

ErrolTheDragon · 23/11/2022 00:23

Impossible... it'd have to be either be a cow Mrs T or a bull Mr T.

Remaker · 23/11/2022 00:30

We don’t do nativity plays where I live so I have no advice but I just wanted to thank you for the thread which I have enjoyed immensely.

And now I feel a bit ripped off about no nativity plays, although my DS played a koala in a bush Christmas play in preschool and it was the cutest thing I ever saw.

UsingChangeofName · 23/11/2022 00:41

I twill be the person that looks after the cows. Perfectly normal role considering Jesus was born in a stable - I'm sure there would have been cows alongside the ox and the ass.

I wish they wouldn't faff around with the nativity. Ours were bog standard - a jesus doll, Mary, Joseph, Gabriel, extra angels, donkey, camels, wise men. Maybe a shepherd?
Well, that uses up to about 10 of the class, what are you going to do with the other 50 children ?
Everyone needs a role in the Nativity.

SenseFromThoughtDivide · 22/11/2022 19:12

Well the Nativity in Love Actually had at least two lobsters

Plus a blue whale and an octopus '8 is a lot of legs David!'

donquixotedelamancha · 23/11/2022 00:50

It's clearly a cow-centaur. Don't clarify, just immediately make a black and white bottom half of a cow costume. No nativity should be without one.
