I thought people were struggling with money yet yesterday and today the High Street where I live was swarming with people and both Sainsburys were packed. SE of England.

I went shopping in tescos on a Sunday lunchtime recently (I usually go in the afternoon) and it was more busy than my "normal" time. I just assumed that was the most popular/convenient time for people who work standard Mon-Fri 9-5 hours. 🤷‍♀️
The supermarket sells essentials like food, it stands to reason it might be busier than eg car showrooms or jewellery shops!

The Gov gives both regardless of income.

But I'm not getting any government payment and am a working person!

Are you?
Oh dear. I must have misunderstood your "hook, line and sinker" comment.

I did say that because of all the derogatory personal comments about a genuine comment. The mention of holiday and nails is true as is everything else I have said.

It's for pensioners , not working people.

God these threads are like the covid ones. I was driving but the roads were gridlocked, I went shopping but it was packed, don't people realise there's a lockdown!!!

Just maybe they were there for the same reason as you?

I wasn't shopping except for pet food yesterday and using the car park today so had to buy something to offset.

🤭I think they must've been! I had to go to 4 shops to get some. I just imagine people with loads of eggs at home feeling smug. They missed out on toilet rolls in 2020,the fuel in 2021 so they wanted to make sure they stocked up on eggs🤣

What the fuck is this fresh hell with eggs then ? I noticed the last 2 shops I did they had no eggs (aldi) and wondered why

Are the fuckwits stockpiling THEM now ??!! Ffs

SaffronQuoda · 22/11/2022 18:57

I hadn't heard about the egg thing either.

@SaffronQuoda and how do you know others weren't doing similar?

Talia99 · 22/11/2022 19:01

I’m going food shopping more because of higher bills - no more ‘just getting a takeaway’ or going to the cafe in town for lunch.

Also, I had a list of things I needed that I checked the Black Friday sales for - I tend to order online but if I didn’t I’d have been out there trying to get the things I needed in the sales.

I could see them with big bags and trolleys.

Most shops are now limiting people to 2 or 3 cartons. So yes, I’m pretty sure there is currently an egg panic of 2022 comparable to the toilet roll panic of 2020 going on.

interstatelovesong · 22/11/2022 19:05

Fuck my actual life re the eggs

Eggs have a pretty short shelf life ...Fucking stupid cunts

PlasticTatMNBingo · 22/11/2022 19:05

Are we getting one of these moronic threads every day now?

Fizbosshoes · 22/11/2022 19:05

Egg production is lower due to bird flu.

Manekinek0 · 22/11/2022 19:05

This thread repeats every week. Not everyone is struggling. And even those who are will still need essentials and potentially wipe out any savings/get into debt to fund Xmas.

But if people are panic buying them they are morons

Choconut · 22/11/2022 19:12

Well that's good news for the economy OP.

what every single person?

Overthebow · 22/11/2022 19:17

OP I’m pretty sure you’re not being serious. You can’t be shocked that shops are busy when you have just been on holiday, having your nails done and are in the shops too. The COL crisis obviously isn’t affecting you much, so why do you think it is affecting everyone else?

They really don’t and they go off spectacularly noticeably. I regularly use eggs a month or more past the best before dates (although if they are more than two weeks past, I either crack them into a separate container or do the float test.

felded · 22/11/2022 19:26

perhaps they were all pensioners!

DahliaMacNamara · 22/11/2022 19:34

I didn't have that 'Pah, call this a cost of living crisis' feeling when I struggled to find a parking space at the supermarket this morning, but it really was much busier than usual for a Tuesday, and I wondered why. Nobody was stocking up on anything out of the ordinary, as far as I could see.

BakewellGin1 · 22/11/2022 19:38

Well I am struggling but I was in a town centre today - I was buying a few Christmas presents and some wrapping paper because believe it or not I still need to Christmas shop somehow as I only have one pay day to go now. I've saved all year.

the80sweregreat · 22/11/2022 19:40

It always dies off after Christmas and people just live on the left over food and are dreading the credit card bills.
Plus a few have received cost of living money from the government too I believe and winter fuel payments etc, I bet a lot of this isn't always spent on what it's meant to be for , but no judgement from me for that. Christmas is an expensive time of year
