I thought people were struggling with money yet yesterday and today the High Street where I live was swarming with people and both Sainsburys were packed. SE of England.

There is no 'Cost Of Living Crisis' - clearly all a media lie.

Although the gap between the haves and have nots is getting bigger.

BeyondThinkOfTheOptics · 22/11/2022 18:33

I went to the hospital earlier and there was only one other woman in the waiting room. I thought our NHS was struggling? Didn't look like it to me... 🤔

Lots of people are struggling but not everyone is struggling.

The people you saw will have been a combination of shopping and window shopping. Cash and credit cards.

Seeing people in shops does not mean there aren't a lot of people really struggling.

Yes that is true. As a pensioner I got 500 from the Gov as well as the energy payment!

🤭I think they must've been! I had to go to 4 shops to get some. I just imagine people with loads of eggs at home feeling smug. They missed out on toilet rolls in 2020,the fuel in 2021 so they wanted to make sure they stocked up on eggs🤣

NippyWoowoo · 22/11/2022 18:35

If I had a pound for every one of these wide-eyed 'what cost of living crisis' threads started on here, I could solve the crisis

IncompleteSenten · 22/11/2022 18:35

I know we are supposed to report and just pretend on the thread that we think the poster is legit but it's fucking hard sometimes.

@SaffronQuoda sports massage therapist. So on the one hand a luxury but on the other, a service that quite a few of my clients use as part of their management for chronic conditions, or to help them with doing heavy manual jobs like building and so on.

BeyondThinkOfTheOptics · 22/11/2022 18:36

I spaffed my cost of living bonus on cocaine. Maybe all the shoppers are dealers?

antelopevalley · 22/11/2022 18:36

Christmas shopping. I have to spread the cost.

MarshaBradyo · 22/11/2022 18:36

Still busy, that’s good

Have the big fuel bills hit yet ? And many people will be hammering the credit cards.

This too. I don't yet know how the increase prices will affect me as my bill won't be due until next month

Reggiebo · 22/11/2022 18:37

Cost of living second payment being spent ...maybe

AlwaysFullOfQuestions22 · 22/11/2022 18:37

Maybe those who have saved all year for xmas are spending.?
Tbh tesco lately has been rammed. Ive had to park near back of car park.
And our local shopping centre / xmas market was also rammed. No parking spaces weekend, gave up went Monday and was still really really in every shop.
Like i say maybe people have saved?

the80sweregreat · 22/11/2022 18:37

A lot of the women I work with have partners / husbands who have worked for years and many are doing very well. Some have had large inheritances , some have partners who have retired and receiving pensions, some are just doing ok. My poor friend is struggling at the moment though , I often wish I could win big and help her buy her own place and my son too who is feeling it ( he is mid 20s) and renting , his bills are huge on one wage :(
I help where I can with him, but it's hard for the young.

Is there an egg shortage? I haven't heard about that ( seriously) Got eggs delivered on Sunday to house from Sainsbury.

Grin

Especially when they've just thrown in that they're a pensioner who got a few hundred from the govt after mentioning the holiday and nails

I actually am legit. I am a pensioner, I have just come back from holiday and I WAS genuinely surprised at the amount of people in shops yesterday and today.

Some stores are limiting how many you can buy

Bird flu

SecretPeston · 22/11/2022 18:44

I know people with no money left at the end of the month who are still going out splurging on credit, e.g. on expensive holidays and new cars.

I don't understand it.Confused

Shouldershoddy · 22/11/2022 18:46

Because people need to eat and even if skint are still trying to bag a gift for their children.

vodkaredbullgirl · 22/11/2022 18:47

Shock, horror

IncompleteSenten · 22/11/2022 18:49

Are you?
Oh dear. I must have misunderstood your "hook, line and sinker" comment.

Laurendelaney1987 · 22/11/2022 18:51

if you can afford to go on holiday then you don’t need the £500 payment and the payment for energy do you? Lots of working people can’t afford a holiday

I think this too, I took the dc into our city on Saturday (Leicester) as they wanted to buy some little Xmas gifts for relatives etc

Was Absolutely swarming

Then I had to go in again Monday daytime for work and was rammed

The Gov gives both regardless of income.
