Lighthearted- things other parents do that drive you mad.

I have seen many things over my time that parents do that just baffle me. I’m sure things I do other people feel the same way.
let’s name a few things without any explanation or defensiveness about these things if we do them ourselves. Just state and that’s it.

for me

  1. giving baby/toddlers juice from a bottle.
  2. seeing very young children (say under 1) watching a tablet or phone while in their pram

Ooh…. I dunno if this will go down well OP. What’s your desired outcome of this?

Mine- parents who use baby speak or cutesy words like Mumsy.

tonyhawks23 · 22/11/2022 12:47

Sorry to say it,but
1.judge other parents.
Baffles me cos it's hard enough!

Goldenbear · 22/11/2022 12:52

Parents who are constantly cross, grumpy or irritated with their children due to unattainable and age inappropriate expectations.

Other parents that think you are too liberal with your DC because you encourage a personality and childhood.

This thread'll go well.

I'll play - ear piercing babies or young children.

Uira7 · 22/11/2022 12:58

When I was young babies were given "milky tea" in their bottle. This always confused me - who the hell thought giving caffeine to a 12-month-old was a good idea? Also saw cola in a bottle. The bottle used to fizz up and there would be a waterfall from the teat ffs.

Sorry I got very into that for a second....

Parents that keep their kids up so they can have a lie in.

Mumsy46 · 22/11/2022 13:01

its more a lighthearted thread just for fun!

god knows I judge myself enough too!

oh I thought of another one-

parents who say things like “he was being an asshole” about their child

Devices in eating establishments.

Devices in cars.

Children running around in restaurants.

Dummies used by children once they can toddle/walk/are past the baby stage.

Slogan outfits for babies/children. ‘Mummy’s little helper’, ‘Daddy’s Princess’.

Buggy boards.

PennyDeadful · 22/11/2022 13:02

This one's a bit specific but having your 15 month old nap three - four hours a day and then complain he's up at 2am.

Ear piercings on small children

Using cot bumpers under 12m or teddies in the cot - why risk it??

But also parenting is really hard so I try and refrain from judging too much because I'm not a perfect mother but I do judge when it comes to safety mostly

Mumsy46 · 22/11/2022 13:03

forward facing your child in their car seat before it’s legal

My ds had a friend at primary whose mum put a glass bowl of Cadbury Creme Eggs out every Easter. Her 8yo ds munched his way though three or four a day.

When school nurse sent her a letter saying her ds was obese, she came to me in tears saying it couldn't be true and she only fed her son healthy food.

I wanted to point out that I never saw him without a bar of chocolate or a doughnut in his hand. But I didn't have the courage.😏

NCFT0922 · 22/11/2022 13:06

Dummies
Earrings on babies
Daft, brightly coloured prints on clothes
Tights on boys (yes, I know, your son doesn’t keep socks on)
Toddler boys with their hair in a Bob- these are usually the ones with watermelon leggings on with tights underneath.

Applecottagetree · 22/11/2022 13:07

This isn't what 'lighthearted' means, FYI.

PinkButtercups · 22/11/2022 13:10

Your username - sorry 🙃.

medicatedgift · 22/11/2022 13:11

I did whatever I had to do. Judge the fuck outta me. ND child(ren) as well as being ND myself meant I learned not to give a fuck pretty quickly.

Sparklingbrook · 22/11/2022 13:12

Start judgey threads on MN claiming they are just a bit of lighthearted fun.

Ineffectual parenting

Trying to be your kids mate

Mumsy46 · 22/11/2022 13:14

Literally most of mumsnet threads are people asking a question and people giving their judgments on it so this is no different really.
if I posted and said I’m getting my 1 year olds ears pierced plenty of people would comment and judge me on it.

ive been judged on many a thing parenting and judge myself on even more!

Elf on the shelf. Because mine keep asking why we don’t have one and I have to be Scroogy about it. I’ve enough to do without tidying up after a blood elf.

If that's what you believe...

MrsDooDaa · 22/11/2022 13:16

Perfect parenting - doesn't set you up with the resilience needed for life.

medicatedgift · 22/11/2022 13:17

It's a horrible thread.

Ok so my DD had a dummy until she was 5 or 6.

I didn't know she had ASD then and I was judged the fuck out of by random strangers and family members to the point of making me and her cry. Often.

Does that feel good to know that?

I got judged for things that with hindsight were related to her ASD. I did what I had to do to get through. I had a nasty divorce and the kids were upset and unsettled. But you wouldn't have known that when you saw a 5 minute snapshot of my day.

Toppl · 22/11/2022 13:17

turning up for a play at our house with an armful of junk food to share

HattyBatty · 22/11/2022 13:18

People who let their child run around in cafes/restaurants. So irritating when you go out with friends and they let their children run riot, it’s dangerous and makes our lives harder because I have to explain to a 3 or 4 year old sorry but you can’t run around with them. “But they’re running around!”

Uira7 · 22/11/2022 13:19

@medicatedgift

So one poster mentions a dummy and you decide to spit yours out? It's not about you.
