Lighthearted- things other parents do that drive you mad.

I have seen many things over my time that parents do that just baffle me. I’m sure things I do other people feel the same way.
let’s name a few things without any explanation or defensiveness about these things if we do them ourselves. Just state and that’s it.

for me

  1. giving baby/toddlers juice from a bottle.
  2. seeing very young children (say under 1) watching a tablet or phone while in their pram

This isn't really light hearted or funny OP you have just named the usual judgemental things some parents use to sneer at other parents from their glass house.

Itsnotaferret · 22/11/2022 18:16

This thread is insane, highlights include. Buggy board, screen time, kids being kids, dress code and someone calling their own kid a cunt! Congrats OP

Parents who can't be arsed to read with and to their child.

my 5 year old’s friends’ parents who let’s their kids travel (short distances) in the front seat of the car with no car seat.

they do it because they can’t be arsed with the argument, but I don’t allow it and it means I get tantrums all the way home because “I want to sit in the front like ELLLLLLLLAAAAA”

slowquickstep · 22/11/2022 18:36

Parents with their head in their phone whilst the little one is desperate for their attention. Parents that swear at their children.

BT11 · 22/11/2022 18:45

I used to manage a restaurant with a play area. My top annoyance was when their child would be extremely misbehaving and they would call me over and tell the child if they didn't eat their dinner or stop hitting other kids etc I was going to tell them off and make them leave (essentially making me the bad guy) Errrr no I am not - do it yourself 🤣

People being meta-judgemental about the subject of this thread -

Parenting is not and should not be a private enterprise. Parents are people bringing up the next generation of humans who we'll all have to share a planet with for better or worse. Their choices will be the main influence on what kind of adults those children become. Judgement is not always unwarranted or 'mean'. It's often very relevant and necessary.

Performance parenting. I collect 2 little ones from preschool and honestly the performance parenting that goes on outside the school is ridiculous. It takes all my willpower not to roll my eyes.

Parents letting their kids run wild around car parks/waiting areas/cafes/etc. control your kids for gods sake. The world does not revolve around them.

Agree with this. Getting up in their child’s face and constantly narrating everything - it must drive them mad. And be exhausting for both. You see it in the playground all the time. Just chill, let them get on with it and have space for their own thoughts, ideas and exploration sometimes.

Mycatsgoldtooth · 22/11/2022 19:33

Buggy boards? That’s a first. I remember sitting in the bottom of the silvercross in the 80’s so it’s not a new thing. I don’t drive, there no way my 3 year old could cover the 5 miles I walk a day without getting knackered.

BobbyBobbyBobby · 22/11/2022 15:16

I was a toddler in the 60s. We walked everywhere. I raised my children the same.

Never had a problem.

We've got baby twins. Do we get a buggy board dispensation?

It's just that the massive pram takes two hands to manoeuvre and I'd rather not risk either the twins or our three year old without it, but now I know it's infra dig I'll stick them back in the Range Rover.

Skinnermarink · 22/11/2022 19:50

These children of the golden 60’s that ‘walked absolutely everywhere’- did you have a mum that had to get to work? When you walked your own toddlers, did you ever do drop off on the way to go into your own job?

antelopevalley · 22/11/2022 19:55

Toddlers are very slow walkers.
I remember getting told in MN a toddler should be able to walk a mile in 15 minutes. My toddlers were lazy slackers and were very slow.

antelopevalley · 22/11/2022 19:56

@Skinnermarink Buggies and buggy boards were common then as well.

SheWoreARaspberryBeret123 · 22/11/2022 20:10

Kids in buggies in freezing weather not dressed for the cold.
The freezing little red hands and cheeks on them! 😕

Dummies
Earrings on babies
Daft, brightly coloured prints on clothes
Tights on boys (yes, I know, your son doesn’t keep socks on)
Toddler boys with their hair in a Bob- these are usually the ones with watermelon leggings on with tights underneath.

My biggest big bug bear is parents that cast empty threats.
Its ALWAYS the ones with the naughtiest child/ren.
Johnny pushes someone...the parent has noticed.
Johnny stop that else we'll leave.
He does it again to a different child.
Johnny stop that i said else we'll leave.
Johnny continues to be a blight to society.
Johnny what have i told you?

Aaaargggh just leave.

Juice is bottles is something im guilty of. My DD has medicine and the consultant recommended putting it in to mask the taste!
