I have seen many things over my time that parents do that just baffle me. I’m sure things I do other people feel the same way.
let’s name a few things without any explanation or defensiveness about these things if we do them ourselves. Just state and that’s it.

for me

  1. giving baby/toddlers juice from a bottle.
  2. seeing very young children (say under 1) watching a tablet or phone while in their pram

I must admit things like running around in cafes etc I used to insist my kids didn’t do these things. But the children who were allowed to have grown up and grown out of it (obviously) and are lovely polite children. I wish I had worried less on these things

I think you did it the right way, however the others might have turned out in the end. At the time they were inconveniencing others and might have even caused accidents.

Devices in eating establishments.

Devices in cars.

Children running around in restaurants.

Dummies used by children once they can toddle/walk/are past the baby stage.

Slogan outfits for babies/children. ‘Mummy’s little helper’, ‘Daddy’s Princess’.

Buggy boards.

What the hell is wrong with buggy boards?😂

I really haven’t got time to read through the entire thread but the title attracted me.

What really really irks me is the competitive bollocks at Primary School from the parents .

Majority are so snidey, two faced, horrible and as fake as fuck.

Cant bear them. So I avoid . I am very intuitive so have a bit of a tendency to see through people. 99.9 percent of the time I am right.

No one gives a fuck so they really need to keep all this boastful shit to themselves.

But it was a much lovelier cafe experience for everyone involved at the time, and they might not have turned out polite. I make you right

Babies and toddlers in pushchairs when the weather is freezing with nothing on they're hands, feet or heads to keep them warm. They're hands bright red from the cold. Also babies and toddlers in the scorching sun in pushchairs with nothing on their feet and heads and their feet are bright red!

Dummies
Earrings on babies
Daft, brightly coloured prints on clothes
Tights on boys (yes, I know, your son doesn’t keep socks on)
Toddler boys with their hair in a Bob- these are usually the ones with watermelon leggings on with tights underneath.

Dummies? And how will you know which child started useing a dummy due to being premature and need help practicing sucking? My son spent 6 weeks in NICU (not premature) and still uses a dummy now. He would have never used a dummy if he didn’t have respiratory and feeding issues earlier on but I guess you’ll just judge him/us anyway!

ItsBritneyBitch45 · 22/11/2022 16:56

I should have never opened this thread😂 I’m only one page in and I’m annoyed. Some things mentioned are just ignorant

mothermotherm · 22/11/2022 17:03

I used to have a list of things that I judged about parents before I had children. I now have a 3 year old who turns in to the hulk at any inconvenience.
I now do a lot of the things I said I never would. I don’t feel in the position to judge others for this reason.

Elf on the shelf. Because mine keep asking why we don’t have one and I have to be Scroogy about it. I’ve enough to do without tidying up after a blood elf.

Agreeeee! A woman I know tells her kids only bold kids who need extra watching get elf on the shelf 😂

Ghastly things that encourage laziness.

Obviously someone will come and post how their child only has one leg and they have to use a buggy board.

I am talking about perfectly healthy children who can walk.

So what happens when you have a toddler and a baby and can’t afford a double buggy. Or the toddler insists they want to walk and their little legs will eventually get tired? Just leave the toddler at home by themselves I’m guessing

AliceMcK · 22/11/2022 17:21

I will play

Juice in bottles, same with fizzy drinks

Ear piercing babies and young children, even for cultural reasons. Surely we’ve moved on and know that not all cultural rituals are right.

Letting children run riot in inappropriate places (cafes, restaurants etc..). I’m all down with letting children run around & develop their own personalities but not at the expense of other people.

Not disciplining children. As above, happy for children to develop their own personality but letting them be rude, hit other children, do exactly what they want is not the way to do it. Children need to lean right from wrong.

Not supervising children in soft play areas, I really hate this.

Not teaching children basic manners, please, thank you & sorry are not hard words to learn and understand.

I will hold my hand up and admit I’m that parent who always brings ‘crap” to play dates.

I use to judge people who let toddlers & young kids paint their nails and put makeup on, until I had my DCs and they loved doing it. Not taught by me but at nursery or watching ads on tv.

Again with dummies, not sure it was judging but I hated it, I remember my DB having a dummy in primary school (not summer dorm or any issues), lots of kids where I grew up were like this. I also remember a neighbour kid rushing home after high school to put his drummy in. He was only allowed it in bed but he use to lie there for a while every day before he came back down stairs. I never wanted my DCs to be like that. But one my DDs had her dummy right up to starting school, she was finally ready to give it up a few weeks before starting.

This just reminded me of last summer at a tourist spot, the parents sitting with their backs to the sun, hats & sunglasses on, eating ice cream while the baby in the backpack was facing directly into the sun with no sun hat on or arms covered. Poor baby was turning red. I was fuming but my DH made me keep walking. Before anyone starts, I know babies take hats off, but as a parent you keep watch on them and make sure they are comfortable.

Omg this is my child!! She’s 18 months and has a foot muff so legs and feet always cold (shoes on too of course). Has a hat on. But she’ll never EVER keep her gloves on and refuses to keep her hands inside of the foot muff.

Today I spent 15 minutes putting two different gloves on her because it was 5 degrees outside. Took them both off over and over again so I gave up. I’m sure her hands were cold but she didn’t care, she was just happy her hands were free😂

Letting their kids get fat
Letting kids run/shout in restaurants

Firen · 22/11/2022 17:34

Overly gendered clothing and accessories. I saw a woman on Facebook selling her unused bottles as they had a blue cap and she was having a girl. When I see parents pushing a bright pink pram, with the child dressed in frilly pink clothing and a bow headband on a bald head, part of me wants to go up to them and say, ‘what a beautiful baby boy you have’!!

Iamtheonwandlonely · 22/11/2022 17:38

Parents bringing their kids to adult events.
Or any parent who can't do anything without their child.

God, of all the things, a buggy is the weirdest thing to judge.

It detaches you know. So don’t assume the child you’ve seen cruising along on it on a busy school run never uses their bloody legs!

Skinnermarink · 22/11/2022 17:48

Buggy BOARD that should say

Right! I’ve never heard anyone have a problem with a bloody buggy board. Sometimes toddlers walk slow/drag their feet and you have places to be. They also get tired walking really easily so may need a rest. I just don’t understand people! They’d have an argument in an empty room

I typically do about 15k steps a day, a lot of hills too. The older she gets, the more my 3 1/4 year walks, but she was just over 2 when she got kicked out of the buggy for the baby and it’s insane to think I should have forced her to walk with no other option. Carrying her and also pushing the buggy is a nightmare of course.

I wasn’t expecting to care if anything in this thread applies to me, but this is just one of the most unreasonable criticisms I’ve seen in my life.

I do expect that you’re not a big walker…

iPads attached to buggies - just no

DinosApple · 22/11/2022 18:05

My DC are a bit older now and I don't notice or care about many of these, but I don't like it when any adults say the child needs to behave because Santa/the policeman/ teacher is watching.

I get it, but there are better ways to try to get a child to behave.

I thank the maker of the dummy on a daily basis. I wouldn't like seeing my child with one when she's school going age although wouldn't judge if i saw someone else's child with one but babies and toddlers are grand
