Pretty excited myself, hope we make it into the finals

I think it has a much greater chance of 'coming home' again next summer if England's women continue their winning streak (and lets not forget this summer's wonderful tournament).

TBH I'm just completely fed up of everything around this world cup, from the corruption to the forced labour and lack of H&S. Then the culture clash over homophobia and sexism that has amounted to nothing because money talks more loudly than human rights. Topped by the big fuss over alcohol in stadia, because that's what really matters 🙄. The World Cup should be such a fun festival of sport and this time it's not.

AriettyHomily · 21/11/2022 16:49

If I was a player I'd hate for this one to be the one that I was remembered for. But no it probably won't anyway.

Coolyule · 21/11/2022 16:51

I hope it comes home to wales!

I'd love to see England (or Wales) win the WC but unfortunately I think there's better teams there!

I think people are probably getting a bit carried away because of England winning by such a margin today. However, Iran played pretty badly and lost their goalie after 5 mins though - it wasn't a difficult game for England to win!

Looking forward to seeing how England do against a decent team like Argentina, Brazil, Spain etc.

thereisonlyoneofme · 21/11/2022 17:02

Im annoyed its taking up the tv schedules again, why is everything pushed off for football, or any sport for that matter.

InTheFutilityRoomEatingBiscuits · 21/11/2022 17:05

It’s already home. Came home last year.

Maybe one day the mens team can justify their air time.

FishnetsNightdressCrisis · 21/11/2022 17:05

This!
I opened this thread just to have a laugh at all the Negative Nancy responses! It didn't disappoint 😁

Opened it for the same reasons, let's play bingo 😁

'Not everyone is English'
'I'm not watching because of where it's being held'
'Why do the tv schedules always get moved for football'

I was really enjoying living through a World Cup without having to listen to that coming home shite. I feel like I've lost the World Cup version of whamageddon.

Pixiedust1234 · 21/11/2022 17:14

Seriously? No wonder we won that match. It would have been beyond shameful if we hadn't Confused

IntentionalError · 21/11/2022 17:16

I’m obviously more optimistic than I was this morning, but let’s keep things in perspective. We played well against very limited opposition, who created very little and looked nowhere near their top 20 world ranking. We will have a better idea of where we are after we play USA & Wales.

I do think the tournament is very open, however, and 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 are one of the countries who could win it, along with France (even without Benzema), Brazil, Argentina & possibly Spain. Sénégal were my dark horses, until Mané got injured.

Pythonese · 21/11/2022 17:21

England are pretty average, at best , and have spent the last 56 years proving it.

They have 4 goalkeepers with them. So it's not like they were short.

incognitocheeto · 21/11/2022 16:04

Even if I supported England I wouldn't be watching due to the location it's being played in

Same here, seriously fucked off about where it is. It is not a positive world event.

Costacoffeeplease · 21/11/2022 17:36

The combination of football + Qatar ensures zero interest here. The sooner it’s all over and done with the better.

cleanfreak12345 · 21/11/2022 17:36

Why the hell wasn't the poor keeper taken off the pitch. Absolutely shocking decision, two minutes after playing on, he has to be substituted

A head injury is very serious

MsPavlichenko · 21/11/2022 17:40

It’s not negative to point out that not all here are English, or indeed England supporters. It’s simply a fact. Good luck to both England and Wales.

KenAdams · 21/11/2022 17:40

Too early to tell

But Mumsnet is a UK based site, majority of posters are in the UK. England is by far the most populous part of the UK. So it's not surprising that there are going to be threads about the England team on here? And a thread with 'football ⚽️ coming home' is going to be discussing England?

What's the point of all the 'not everyone on here is English' posts? If you're not interested in the England team, why bother to post on a thread about them? I'm English, I've no interest in the Wales team, I don't feel the need to post on threads about them saying 'not everyone is on here is welsh'.

Goldenbear · 21/11/2022 18:22

Agree with above, it is pretty obvious what country we are talking about.

PrincessPoodle · 21/11/2022 18:44

If the op had posted the exact same post but was Welsh, she'd have been ripped a new one.

Why say "we"?! We're not all Welsh! MN is British not Welsh!

The post doesn't mention England once. And uses "we". It's obnoxious.

It mentions 'coming home', everyone knows what song it's referring to. How is that obnoxious.

Chip. Shoulder. Much.

'Coming home' = England... No?

TartanGirl1 · 21/11/2022 19:02

I think you might be getting a little carried away after one game 😂

I don't think they would .

FuckNuggets · 21/11/2022 19:10

I think the Lionesses will bring it home for their World Cup next year. As much as I enjoy watching the men's, I just don't think they'll manage it.
