A few quick opinions needed... will be buying today! It's for a spare, single bedroom, fun and modern vibe (hopefully!) Thanks.

i don’t like the first one at all. It makes me feel dizzy!

KweenCnut · 21/11/2022 13:03

I see them as totally different tones. The first is cold and the second, warm. Which way does the window face?

Rauha · 21/11/2022 13:05

Second, the yellow.

This is similar to many bedroom wallpaper we had in the seventies although brown and coral shades featured heavily.

Bedrooms tended to be florals and the pattern shapes were more more for living areas.

Naw, that link didn't work well @BobbyBobbyBobby took me to the site but not a particular wallpaper. I was keen to see!

I had huge flowers on my bedroom wallpaper in the early seventies as a small child, in all shades of pink but mostly deep, hot pink. I lay in bed and peeled the outer vinyl later off!

Both have a very 70's vibe.

The first one looks like a random scattering of machete blades, not conducive to achieving a peaceful night's sleep. I definitely wouldn't want to be sleeping (attempting) in that room.

The second one is more restful, the pattern is smaller and denser but less busy.

chickchickpox · 21/11/2022 13:11

Number 2 for me

AnnieRich · 21/11/2022 13:18

I prefer the second one.

FightingFatAt49 · 21/11/2022 13:23

I thought the grey one at first, but actually after more consideration I prefer the 2nd one.

I think this is the one Bobby was linking to www.wallpaperfromthe70s.com/wallpaper-rhea-ochre-yellow

Cornelious · 21/11/2022 13:26

The second but tbh I don't like either. I think they're quite dated styles now. Seen a lot of these 5+ years ago.

Waterfalls39 · 21/11/2022 13:38

1st one. The 2nd is a bit too yellow for my taste, the colours in the 1st are more subtle.

JaninaDuszejko · 21/11/2022 13:41

I prefer 1 but I'm not keen on yellow and 1 is less yellow. Not sure if that is particularly helpful though!

I also hate feature walls so would say whichever one you prefer decorate all four walls (if you insist on having a feature wall make it the ceiling).what colour is your woodwork going to be? Grey might go well with the second one or yellow with the first.

I think because it's a spare room you can go a bit wild because it's not permanent, it's only for short visits. Friends of mine had a really bright orange spare room for years and it was lovely to stay there, it was really energising. But I'd never choose to paint my own bedroom orange.

jonesy1999 · 21/11/2022 13:41

Second

mam0918 · 21/11/2022 13:45

They both look like carpet in a weatherspoons bathroom (in fact Im pretty certain that second one IS the pattern of the local weatherspoons carpet).

Daffodilsandtuplips · 21/11/2022 13:57

Second one is easier on the eye.

TheClitterati · 21/11/2022 13:57

They look pretty much the same to me so I'd choose on price.

Lycanthropology · 21/11/2022 19:57

Thank you so much everyone for all your opinions!
Fairly even split between the two, but I realise I don't like the first because it reminds me of cheap papers I sniffed at when wallpaper shopping in Do it All for my first house in the early 90s. Also too much grey.
The second one is OK, but meh.
I want a mustardy colour, but they all seem to be coupled with grey!

Back to the drawing board.

North west, @KweenCnut

I'd pick a warmer tone then, unless you like a cold, hard light

SarahSmith2023 · 12/05/2023 23:16

@Lycanthropology

what did you choose in the end?
