The older porter has come in to let me know how the gig went last night..Sham 69! His voice is rough from presumably singing along!

He told me Pete Shelley of Buzzcocks died in Estonia. I did not know that!

He is due to see 999 soon.

One site had Blur tickets at £123 pounds each !
I just hope someone films it and puts it on tv.

VenusClapTrap · 21/11/2022 11:18

I’m linking arms with @doubleshotcappuccino and @RichardMarxisinnocent as another active a-ha fan. I love going to see them play in Norway, or sometimes another European country - it’s a fab excuse for a lovely city break with a friend who is a fellow fan. When they release tour dates we enjoy picking which one (or two!) we’ll travel to.

Really hoping they’ll do a tour to promote the new album. Maybe see you there!

Yes but Billy Corgan doesn't make it easy 😁

Yes, I am still stuck in the early to mid 90s.

I will be listening to Green Day, Nirvana and Britpop until the day I die.

This is very true 😂

Us too. And in Dublin as well. The Berlin tickets were eye-wateringly expensive, DH is still in a state of shock!!

We were lucky and ended up paying less for the tickets than we would have in London. Plus accomodation is soooo much cheaper. So 3 days in Berlin plus the tickets was cheaper than a flying over night visit in London.

I do think maybe there’s a shortage of good band names nowadays.
I feel they’ve given up. 😂 Wetleg? First Aid Kit? Has the world run out of decent names?

I actually like Wetleg. Much to my Dad's disgust as they liked them until they found out I did

ReformedWaywardTeen · 22/11/2022 14:09

Plump82 · 20/11/2022 19:58

Yep, take that. Have been a fan since the beginning and I'm now 40. As long as they keep touring, I'll keep buying tickets!!

Hello fellow Thatter.

I finally got to see them on the Circus tour, my mum never let me as a kid. My Dsil said she felt she got a snapshot into 14 year old me, such was my face of pure unadulterated wonder and happiness standing at Wembley 😂. I couldn't even speak on the train home. Massive life achievement (although if they get Rob back again that will be the big one).

KatherineJaneway · 22/11/2022 14:30

I do. I'm a huge fan of Peter Cox's voice so go and see Go West when I can. Over the years I have taken the chance to see bands I've never had the opportunity to see when I was younger such as Hall & Oates, The Eagles etc. I always tried to go and see George Michael as much as I could, Prince too. All my top 5 male vocalists from childhood are dead now Sad

I've only heard the Chaise Longue one, it's not my cup of tea, but definitely need some imaginative band names again.

Blimey, where have you been? I was sick of hearing that song months ago and it's still being played everywhere!

I'm not sure what you mean. It's the only song I've heard of theirs, but it was going back a while, I haven't just heard it today.

Sorry sparklingbrook I misread! I thought you had just heard the song rather than only heard that song.
They did a cover of Smoko which is ok at best!

Davros · 23/11/2022 13:57

Rod was in absolute top form last night. We stopped in All Bar One afterwards to let the crowd at the tube die down. It was brilliant, the whole place was singing "You're in my Heart"

Robbie will forever be the reason (to me) that they split up. Now if they manage to track Jason down and he came back then I'd be happy forever!!
I was very lucky to have my mum take me to the concerts so have been to every big tour they've done!

Absolutely, we’ve been going to see Tom Robinson / the Tom Robinson Band since 1979 - at least once on every tour they’ve done and one off shows in between . We are also going to see Squeeze next weekend . Bruce Springsteen is another one that we’ve been seeing since we were very young .

Me too! I absolutely love him. Such a nice man too, he signed my cover of PITD I’ve had since I was a teenager.

Also PIL, Ruts DC, Stranglers, Skids to name a few. Bit of a theme here 😁

Lucky you! I think they're only doing that one gig in the UK?

I think a lot of people are seeing these old bands now as band members are sadly dying off. 😥

Depeche Mode always announce the London gig, first then add the other UK dates for usually November/December later on, so it's worth keep checking.

I've got Twickenham tickets, but hoping for Birmingham and Manchester to be announced next year on past experience.

We had to travel to London to see them as they didn't put a Scotland date on last tour.

Yes, I have been going to see The Cure and Jesus and Mary Chain since 1989 and won't stop until they do. But I love live music and like to go to new stuff as well.

balalake · 23/11/2022 19:21

Last gig before the pandemic I saw was The Primitives. Tracy Cattrell has aged a lot better than me!!

the80sweregreat · 23/11/2022 19:30

Loved the primitives !
Women singers in the 80s had a different vibe. Was more about the music I think than just a marketing gimmick.

Twoscotcheggsandajarofmarmite · 23/11/2022 20:09

I saw Teenage Fanclub this year, thirty odd years after I last saw them, and they were still brilliant. A little greyer, like myself, but the music hasn’t aged.
My very first gig was Billy Bragg in 1984. I loved him with a passion and went to see him so many times through the years all over the country. Saw him this year and nearly walked out, he is not my man anymore. Like Morrissey he has tainted the music of my youth. I just can’t listen to him anymore.

Love Jesus and Mary Chain. My brother was a huge fan, which of course meant that back in the day, I had to hate them 🙄. I’ve come to appreciate them in later life.

About a decade ago I found myself working alongside their younger sister. She was fab, and she got her brothers to sign a birthday card for my brother as a surprise. He was over the moon! Clearly very nice people. Sad that I lost touch with her when I changed jobs.
