Are you still following bands of your youth?

The older porter has come in to let me know how the gig went last night..Sham 69! His voice is rough from presumably singing along!

He told me Pete Shelley of Buzzcocks died in Estonia. I did not know that!

He is due to see 999 soon.

My first ever gig was Adam and the Ants at the Queen's Hall in Leeds, January 1982.

My most recent gig was Adam Ant at Sheffield City Hall in July this year.

So yes, still following :-)

I'd like to be able to but couldn't get any Bruce tickets for next Summer ...

riotlady · 20/11/2022 21:53

My best friend and I have seen Steps together 3 times- once when we were 8, in our early 20s when they did their reunion tour, and again this summer! Still remember all the dance moves to 5,6,7,8

No. It makes me feel really depressed even thinking about seeing old bands. If I had the money I'd see someone modern.

Why does it make you depressed

Giggorata · 20/11/2022 23:09

No, they're all dying off or too old to tour, sadly.

Davros · 21/11/2022 00:11

I'm going to see Rod Stewart tomorrow I've loved him since 1971

Stabat · 21/11/2022 00:20

Seeing The Cure in December.

Joolsin · 21/11/2022 00:25

Plump82 · 20/11/2022 21:20

We're seeing them in Berlin! Can't wait.

Us too. And in Dublin as well. The Berlin tickets were eye-wateringly expensive, DH is still in a state of shock!!

Joolsin · 21/11/2022 00:26

Stabat · 21/11/2022 00:20

Seeing The Cure in December.

Likewise. My first time seeing them was in 1989. They wouldn't be my favourites now, but they still put on a great show.

doubleshotcappuccino · 21/11/2022 02:27

@RichardMarxisinnocent so glad not just me enjoying AHA !

StiggyZardust · 21/11/2022 02:33

Going to see Patti Smith next week. Try to see Crowded House whenever they play. Sadly my other favourites are David Bowie and The Clash.

Nat6999 · 21/11/2022 03:39

Yes, I have followed & loved Paul Weller ever since he was in The Jam, I also love From The Jam which has Bruce Foxton who was also in The Jam. I still love watching Madness & The Specials as well.

June2008 · 21/11/2022 04:46

Yep, have Springsteen ticket for London and Paris next year. Have done at least one night of every UK tour since the 90s (apart from when our daughter was a couple of weeks old). Not sure if DH loves it as much as I do but luckliy he's happy to indulge me!

rubydoobydoo · 21/11/2022 05:18

Yes! And I think people who don't are people who either don't love music or are people who just follow trends and have never found out who they are or what they really love, and that makes me feel a bit sad.

I'm always on the look out for new stuff to love too!

I still like their music, it was the soundtrack to my teenage years, I just don’t follow them now, or want to see them live or anything.
I love music, there’s no need to feel sad for me. as you say you don’t have to listen to the same stuff your whole life, you can constantly discover new music you like. 😃

Numbat2022 · 21/11/2022 05:29

Yes, of course! The music of my youth is 'my' music. I listen to new stuff too but it doesn't have the same feeling.

I don't go to many gigs at the moment as I have a young child and limited childcare, so I really hope indie/Britpop bands are still touring in 10 years 😂

Still liking it is what I've classed as following it so I don't feel sad for you!

There are bands I like from my youth who have put out shocking releases since and I probably wouldn't go and see them live either - but now we have social media I still keep an eye on what a lot of them are up too.

Others - as soon as a tour is announced I'm there!

rubydoobydoo · 21/11/2022 05:39

Sorry for all the massive paragraph spaces in my post, not sure if it's my phone, the site, or the cat that's on top of my typing arm 😅

AuntieMarys · 21/11/2022 05:47

We are in our 60s....sadly a lot of our heroes have either broken up, too old or died.
But we go to about 20 - 30 gigs a year.....love Waterboys, Killers and Courteeners.
We love new music too....have tickets for Wetleg, Self Esteem, Harry Styles, First Aid Kit and Sam Fender for next year.

brianixon · 21/11/2022 06:01

Still listen and sing along with Steeleye Span.
Recently saw Maddie Prior live.

Vigneau · 21/11/2022 06:04

Listen to loads from the 1970’s and 1980’s and loving newer stuff as well across many genres. Older artists in my regular playlists:

The Stranglers
Jean Michel Jarre
Roxy Music / Brian Ferry
Kate Bush
Bjork

Have not seen any for a long time now, but had the pleasure of bumping into one from the above on occasion in the village pub or out walking the dog when I lived next door for a few months.

So jealous 😳Enjoy.

unsync · 21/11/2022 06:16

Going to see The Cure in December, loved them since Three Imaginary Boys.

Sparklingbrook · 21/11/2022 06:28

I do think maybe there’s a shortage of good band names nowadays.
I feel they’ve given up. 😂 Wetleg? First Aid Kit? Has the world run out of decent names?

Last night we went to see the Saw Doctors who OH has been going to see for 30 odd years ( me a few less) 16 year old DS has seen them a few times and says it was one of the most brill nights he's had ..and we saw his favourite band on Friday

So glad the Saw Doctors are still going. I saw them first in 1996 I think. I've seen them many times since but not recently.

I think they're the best live band I've ever seen.
