Are you still following bands of your youth?

The older porter has come in to let me know how the gig went last night..Sham 69! His voice is rough from presumably singing along!

He told me Pete Shelley of Buzzcocks died in Estonia. I did not know that!

He is due to see 999 soon.

Yes, have been following Bon Jovi since I was a teenager. And I go and see them every time they play in the Uk. I've got DS into them now as well.

Riverlee · 20/11/2022 19:46

Still listen to 80s music, and a lot of the bands are now doing tours, so watching them now live rather than first time around!

ReformedWaywardTeen · 20/11/2022 19:48

I loved Soul II Soul and De La Soul as a kid and got to see them a few years back at a festival. That was bril.

I also, and don't hate me, still follow Take That and have seen them live as well.

Other than that I still love Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers too.

God yes. The 2 best I saw at Glastonbury this year were the pet shop boys and Paul heaton (aka the housemartins) as they reminded me so much of my youth

feellikeanalien · 20/11/2022 19:55

Massive Genesis fan. Taking DD to her first gig next year. We're going to see Mike and the Mechanics. My late DP and I went to see Genesis when I was pregnant with DD so don't know if that has influenced her musical taste. Have to say she does like Katy Perry and Dua Lipa as well!

Yes! ...I know for some they were cringe but AHA's new album True North is a masterpiece .. start with " you have what it takes" .. brilliant

YES! I was about to post that I still follow a-ha. True North is a brilliant album, and I loved the film too. I had tickets to see them in May but it was cancelled as Morten had laryngitis. I saw them in 2009, and on their, ahem, "Farewell" tour in 2010, and have seen them since they decided to get back together again.

Plump82 · 20/11/2022 19:58

Yep, take that. Have been a fan since the beginning and I'm now 40. As long as they keep touring, I'll keep buying tickets!!

j712adrian · 20/11/2022 20:00

Definitely not.

On that basis we'd have all been listening to Florrie Fford in the 1970s.

Lookingformymarbles · 20/11/2022 20:03

I still love listening to the music but not such a fan of big concerts any more-too many people!

I saw Roddy Frame a few years ago-as good as ever, Fleetwood Mac not so much.

Dh wanted to get tix for Bruce Springsteen but £££ so decided against it.

Would love to see Blondie-Debbie Harry was girl crush back in the day!

Sparklingbrook · 20/11/2022 20:04

I don’t want to see them live now as they’re all in their 60s, and I’m not a teenager any more. ☹️

notacooldad · 20/11/2022 20:07

Yes. I go to see loads of gigs from bands from ages ago!
I also like discovering new bands as well.

Withnoshoes · 20/11/2022 20:07

Watching Pulp next year!

RinklyRomaine · 20/11/2022 20:07

Also booked for Depeche Mode in Twickenham...have never missed them in London yet and don't intend to ever. DH will roll his eyes and come along as ever.

noideabutstilltrying · 20/11/2022 20:07

Saw Liam Gallagher at a Knebworth over the summer.

Still go to see Ocean Colour Scene.

Was so pleased to see The Charlatans last December

Tempted by shed 7 in Leeds.

Saw Lightning seeds last month and it was a brilliant night!

EnjoyingTheSilence · 20/11/2022 20:09

Got my tickets too @AngelsWithSilverWings cannot wait, might see if we can get tickets for European date too. Can’t wait

KangarooKenny · 20/11/2022 12:36

Yep, I’ve got tickets next year for the band I’ve been following for 36 years.

Is it Blur? Just a guess.

I went to see the Prodigy in the summer. Amazing. Have seen Suede many times in the last few years too. Very, very tempted by Blur at Wembley but don't think I can justify the price...!

So desperate to see blur at Wembley but I'll have a 1 month old baby 😭

Very nearly went to see them at Hyde park (cannot for the life of me remember what year but was a summer sometime between 2007 and 2009 I think!) but the cost of the ticket was literally the only money I had in the world. My brother went and I was so gutted to be left behind (still gutted 15 years later!) I've loved them since I was about 5/6 (I'm now 33).

the80sweregreat · 20/11/2022 20:47

I'd love to go to more gigs but the price and the traveling and getting to and fro and just everything means I talk myself out of it ! It's an age thing
I'd love to see Blur, but I know I won't !
I follow some old bands online that I liked in the 80s and 90s.

MadisonAvenue · 20/11/2022 20:55

I’ve been a Duran Duran fan since they released their first single in 1981, go to see them whenever they tour the UK (which isn’t often, they seem to prefer touring the US).

Me and my 25 year old son were supposed to see Debbie Harry and Chris Stein in conversation a couple of weeks ago but it’s been postponed until next May due to Chris having some health problems to deal with.

Green Day I’ve loved since my early 20s and I still go to see them every tour.

Yeah, it’s a big expense and a bit of a faff nowadays.

I’m in the Midlands and bands frequently miss out Birmingham when they tour so it means travelling, and often an overnight stay.
For instance, Green Day played an arena tour in 2017 and the only UK dates were London, Manchester and Leeds. Why both Manchester and Leeds which are only 40 or so miles away from each other I’ll never understand, and the rest of the UK was missed out altogether.

piedbeauty · 20/11/2022 21:19

Not at all. I still love bands from my teens and see them when I can - A-ha, Erasure, Queen, Shaky...

Rockbird · 20/11/2022 21:20

@MadisonAvenue I was supposed to see Debbie and Chris too. Was so gutted but he's not very well at the moment so it's understandable.

We're seeing them in Berlin! Can't wait.

megletthesecond · 20/11/2022 21:20

No. It makes me feel really depressed even thinking about seeing old bands. If I had the money I'd see someone modern.
