I quite often have a song that will make me change radio channel when it comes on

This month it's Music for a Sushi Restaurant by Harry Styles, I don't know what it is about the song but my left hand just snakes out and punches a different pre-set on the car radio whenever I hear it. All of his other songs have been ok-ish up to now.

Last month it was Afraid to Feel by LF Systems.

Quite often it's an Ed Sheeran song, I really like some of his (usually the ones that are claimed to have been stolen from someone else, strange that) and really can't tolerate some of his others.

What are your 'can't listen' songs?

Sade. Your love is king.

Itsacakebaby · 18/11/2022 21:35

Don't Stop Believin' - Journey

HazelBite · 18/11/2022 21:38

None of these are that bad, there is only one song that should be consigned to room 101 and that is..... Come on EileenEnvy

The bloody Band Aid Christmas song. It’s literally the most tone deaf thing ever. I refuse on principle to listen to it.

Fwiw, I met Bob Geldof in a professional capacity about 10 years ago as he was speaking to a charity I worked with. If the song wasn’t awful enough, he is himself the most tone deaf person I’ve ever met. He literally managed to offend about everyone in the room, made a speech mostly about himself, people literally got up and walked out as it was so uncomfortable.

In the air tonight Phil Collins

Anything by Ellie Goulding omg I can't stand her whining.

ginandbearit · 18/11/2022 21:41

Any song with the word 'thee' in it .. spoilt all of Diana Ross for me ..and that bunch who sang I predict a riot ..

funder · 18/11/2022 21:42

I believe I can fly - R. Kelly.

And that Aerosmith love song that was on a movie.

Awful.

containsnuts · 18/11/2022 21:42

I think I'm the only person in Scotland that can't stand The Proclaimers 500 miles song.

ichundich · 18/11/2022 21:43

Anything by Pink and Adele.

Jumpwaddlecollapse · 18/11/2022 21:43

My DH turns the radio over whenever it's a song I know ALL the words to (I am a terrible singer) - I cottoned on to this a while ago and upped my game - i know a LOT of lyrics by heart now.

If I'm listening to a pop statii it's anything by The Eurythmics that has me jumping for the off button. If I'm listening to a classical station, The Lark Ascending and there's a piece much beloved by Classic FM that I don't know the name of, but it sounds like a jazz saxophonist improvising over a piece of Church music and I hate it.

BobbyBobbyBobby · 18/11/2022 21:45

As an aside, when I was a child this was one of my favourite songs -

Literally the entire output of the Beautiful South or Paul Heaton & Jackie Abbott.

They've got a new album out which is "Album of the week" on Radio 2. Between that and Scott Treadmills I've had to migrate to R4 and R5 this week.

I'm glad it's not just me. Can't abide their stupid songs. The lyrics make me want to scream.
I would add anything by The Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

BobbyBobbyBobby · 18/11/2022 21:46

Ignore! Wrong thread 😂

SomeChickensAreJustTooBig · 18/11/2022 21:46

That awful one that must be called ‘Rude’
”Why d’ya have to be so rude? “ when he’s asked the girl’s father if he can marry her. Dreadful.
Also anything by Jess Glynn.

TooTrusting · 18/11/2022 21:46

Paul McCartney's Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time. The world's most boring repetitive song with incredibly lazy songwriting.
And the Bo Selecta Artful Dodger song really winds me up.

Not a song but Jeremy Vine on R2 almost always made me smash the "retune" button with extreme prejudice as well.
Every topic was little-Britain NIMBY goady shit. I hear he's left now.

Nope. I got 13 minutes into his show earlier before I realised Ken Bruce had finished.🙉

Oh God yes. I actually cannot bear to look at Paul Heston either. He’s probably a really nice guy - it’s nothing personal…

toastedcat · 18/11/2022 21:48

I just want to be part of your symphony.... that one

Also anything with Sean Paul.

DeepdaleDuck · 18/11/2022 21:49

Love most Motown Music, but cannot stand Stevie Wonder at all

gahwhyme · 18/11/2022 21:49

Anything by Robbie Williams or Michael Buble

Anything by simply red

Me too. Mick Hucknall gives me the heebie-jeebies.

Whoputtheramintheramalamadingdong · 18/11/2022 21:51

I turn over the radio immediately if anything comes on by:

Manic Street Preachers
Pink
Robbie Williams
Emilie Sande
Adele

I can't stand any of their music - it really depresses me.

PorridgewithQuark · 18/11/2022 21:51

I constantly change the channel if driving alone. I hate anything with whistling or anything whiney.

I also hate that stupid Ferrari song - no idea who sings it, some smug entitled sounding man. He sings "can I be honest? Do you still want me?" and I feel compelled to say "no" out loud and change the channel...🤣
