Does anyone buy a real Christmas tree anymore?

OP posts:

Yes real tree here. I put it up mid December much to my DC's annoyance as they see others putting up their trees in November and feel they are missing out. A tough lesson in delayed gratification.

Yes - I'd love to get a really good fake one but my DS absolutely insists on a real one every year. He's 15 now and you'd think the world had ended when I suggested a fake one last Christmas. I've found a fab guy who delivers them though, so at least we don't have to try and get it in the car!

The very first thing I did on the christmas I left home was get a real tree. Growing up in the 70s with a balding plastic tree made me swear that once I had my own proper home (I rented bedsits for many years before that), I would get a real tree

I would never get a fake tree

You see, I wonder if my DCs will rebel and get a fake tree which they will put up in November when they leave home. They hate having to wait for the real tree, poor little deprived souls.😆

Well it's not really pointless if you can't afford to buy a tree every year and want your house to look christmassy. It doesn't take a genius to work that out, does it?

To clarify - the OP asked a question to which I was responding . To me they seem pointless. I can’t speak for the millions of people who clearly don’t share my opinion. It’s a personal preference…you can have whatever you want in your home, it really doesn’t matter to me.

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 18/11/2022 10:32

Yes. We finally had one again last year (after some years of living in small flats and using a faux tree most years excerpt for one small one in a pot), and it was so much nicer. The smell, the feel of it, the loveliness! I’m Danish and we always had real trees for Christmas; I’d never seen a faux tree in someone’s home until I moved to the U.K.

We go to a local country shop/hardware/etc that sells them. We get ours in the 2nd week of December.

MovinOnUp · 18/11/2022 10:45

Me, every year since I left XH.
He would never 'let' me you see as he hated real trees (he hated everything about Christmas actually or maybe he just hated everything I loved)
So as a big fuck you I ordered the biggest tree I could afford for the first Christmas without him.

Now I'm in my own flat and don't have the storage space for an artificial tree so I still get a real one.

LibertyLily · 18/11/2022 18:47

Yep, a real tree for us too. We both love the smell, the choosing and the fact they're all different/slightly wonky! A few years back we did buy quite an expensive artificial tree but after a while realised it just wasn't as good as the real thing so flogged it on ebay.

We do have a small vintage (1950/60s) faux tree decorated with my parents' vintage baubles that we usually put up elsewhere in the house plus a living tree we have by the front door.

maddy68 · 18/11/2022 18:48

Yea. I love the small and the hunt for the tree.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 18/11/2022 18:50

Always get a real one. The only people I know who have fake ones have the ones that are obviously fake like black or white ones

APurpleSquirrel · 18/11/2022 19:03

Both - fake tree inside which we've had for 10+ years & a real potted one I bought last year from Sainsbury's for outside the house.
