Does anyone buy a real Christmas tree anymore?

OP posts:
Bouledeneige · 16/11/2022 09:21

It's part of our Christmas ritual. I go with DD (now 22) and we choose a tree having a joke around with the guys who wrap it for us and then we get a new bauble each and a few decorations. DS dropped out a few years ago but we love it. DD loves Christmas and we both enjoy making it special. She'd never let me stop doing it!

QuietYou · 16/11/2022 09:42

Yes, we usually have two sometimes three. There's a lovely place near us where you can go and choose them, there's reindeer and hot drinks etc.
The natural looking artificial ones are good but so expensive. I've been looking for small ones for DC's rooms, they currently have the cheap green tinsel type ones that we've had for years and are looking a bit sparse, the better looking ones are about £80 for a 3 or 4 foot tree.

I always have a real tree. A seven foot Fraser fir - doesn’t drop its needles, soft fluffy looking branches, gorgeous citrussy pine smell. I wouldn’t touch an environmentally damaging Chinese manufactured plastic tree with a bargepole.
My tree is cut up and composted each year. The company also sponsor tree planting in third world countries for every Christmas tree sold.

We do if we are staying at home, but travelling this year so its the fake one.

Which comes with the wonderful New Year tradition of getting it back in the blasted box.

vinoandbrie · 16/11/2022 09:58

Yes of course! It’s part of our Christmas.

howaboutchocolate · 16/11/2022 10:01

I'll be getting a real one this year then keeping it for firewood. Dried pine branches are good kindling/firelighters.

Olivetreebutter · 16/11/2022 10:16

Yes. I can't see us ever having a faux tree. We don't go crazy with decor but a big real tree is a non negotiable.

youcantry · 16/11/2022 10:19

Yes but I buy living ones and plant them after the festivities, last years tree is thriving in my DP fathers garden.

underneaththeash · 16/11/2022 10:19

We do, I love the choosing part, the smell, even the pine needles. I’m not into anything fake. We put the logs in our pizza oven afterwards too.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 16/11/2022 10:21

Yes, always. Any year we've only had artificial has been a disappointment.

Doughnuts68 · 16/11/2022 10:55

When would be the best time to get one if choosing from a field?

Around 7 million are sold in the UK each year, including ours OP.

Absolutely. The stress of picking the perfect tree, getting it in the car and then in the house is one of my favourite Christmas dramas.
We have a real tree in the lounge and a fake tree in the playroom, we've had the same fake tree for 5 years now and it's still going strong

Dodie66 · 16/11/2022 11:11

Nope. Bought a Balsam Hill one which is very realistic. The old artificial one went to another home so recycled. No needles to hoover up

MrsKeats · 16/11/2022 11:17

Yes every year.
I don't like fake trees.

alloalloallo · 16/11/2022 11:27

I’d love a real one, but I’m allergic to them

We have a fake one, it’s about 12 years old I think and still looks as good as new so no plans to replace it for a long time

AlwaysLatte · 16/11/2022 11:31

I would never have a plastic tree.

Slanty · 16/11/2022 11:31

I do.

I live next to a Christmas tree farm so as local as you can get.

xogossipgirlxo · 16/11/2022 11:37

Yes.

BooksAndHooks · 16/11/2022 11:38

No never had a real tree growing up. I bought I a real tree for the garden a few years ago and discovered I’m allergic to it.

We have had our current tree since 2005.

We also have ours up early for first Sunday if advent so a real one wouldn’t last long enough.

bloodyeverlastinghell · 16/11/2022 11:39

Not anymore . I used to but puppy/ toddlers got me out the habit. I decorate the trees outside with solar lights and little decorations made from willow from the garden and foraged bits. It’s quite cheery. Pine cones wrapped around with colourful wool type stuff. We do put up lights and stuff inside just not a tree.

Choconut · 16/11/2022 11:39

We have one real and two fake. The real one takes up half the living room and one of the fake ones is twenty years old but no one will let me get rid of it.

sarahc336 · 16/11/2022 11:40

We do and it's actually better for the environment to do so so I feel better knowing that 🤣🤣

peridito · 16/11/2022 11:45

I'm just posting here in memory of one of the loveliest posters who died from a genetic form of bowel cancer when in her 20s ,early30s.
She loved a Christmas tree ,especially a Norway Spruce,as I did .

Lovely Chrissi ,and all your incarnation as Rubyredshoes /goodbyerubytuesday/runrunruby/rahrahrasputin/
