What brand of washing machine?

DeliveringCakes · 12/11/2022 22:41

Ours has just broke, was a Samsung bought for £400 and lasted 5 years, 3 months. I'm a bit angry it didn't last very long considering price/brand.

So please can I have recommendations for good long lasting washing machine brands?

The cheaper the better, obviously. Definitely couldn't afford over £400!

My AEG is now 13 years and the previous one lasted 10 years

ReviewingTheSituation · 13/11/2022 07:24

I'm very happy with my 8 year old Beko. They have a 10yr parts guarantee on some models now - I'd definitely choose them again as you get a lot for your money (I wouldn't get the cheapest Beko, but a mid range one).

gogohmm · 13/11/2022 07:25

Beko, I buy cheap

Butteredtoast55 · 13/11/2022 07:26

I have had a Bosch for nearly five years and I love it. It's quiet and washes well. We have cheaper electricity at night so often set the timer and use the eco wash overnight.
Before that we had a Servis which was fantastic, then two Hotpoints. That's over 35 years and a LOT of washing so they've all done OK.

SaltedTortilla · 13/11/2022 07:31

Another here to say Zanssui. My old washer dryer is going strong and is 12 years old. Never needed any more than the filter cleaning and it took a hammering with me, a lodger, a dirty job DP and a baby. I have since split and xDP got it and I have bought a new one. Silent as it can be, quick 30 min full load wash.

Avoid buying from Currys. They are bloody awful. Stretch to JL or similar.

Miele. Expensive but bomb proof and super cheap to run.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 13/11/2022 07:32

The OP had said she can't afford over £400 so she won't be able to afford a Miele.

Paddingtonthebear · 13/11/2022 07:32

Just bought a Bosch serie 4, so far so good

Oh I gave a Samsung, I love it! So probably no help here!

Same! We regularly use the little door in ours when we forget to put things in before turning it on!

Jins · 13/11/2022 07:37

I’ve got a Beko. It’s 12 now and still does what it’s supposed to do. I bought cheap because my previous hotpoint machines had been very short lived and it was a good call.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 13/11/2022 07:38

I've had various machines:
Indesit lasted about 2 years
Hoover started boiling everything when set to 40 degrees
AEG Worst machine I've had. Had to get it fixed at least twice a year
Samsung. Love it. Bought it because it has a 5 year guarantee. I've had it 5 years in December and never had a problem with it.

Crunchymum · 13/11/2022 07:39

Hated my Ecobubble.

Hate my Bosch too. Something (usually a sock or a mask) gets stuck in the filter every few months, gets kind of entwined around the filter itself so it makes it impossible to just unscrew the filter. We had to use a wrench last time and we've has to replace the whole filter in the past as we snapped the handle when trying to open it.

We wash small things in zip up wash bags now. The little bastard socks would still escape pillow cases / netted bags and weeks later end up jamming the filter so we had to resort to zip bags.

Fatcatriot · 13/11/2022 07:48

Ebac.....if its in your price range. 7 year warranty on all parts and labour..built to be fully repairable..unlike a lot of other machines

www.ebac.com/washing-machines/7-year-warranty

Made in the uk. Love mine

Thank you so much for all your comments! They're really helpful, keep them coming 😊

My friend has a Miele which she loves but sadly out of our price range.

Bosch !

Been going 12 yrs plus. Lots of sports kit been washed in that time too.

Coffeetable123 · 13/11/2022 09:27

@redby that’s not actually the case with my machine. Or rather, they may well be eco cycles, but the reason I bought this machine (washing machine guy was at my house telling me my old one was broken and had to quickly buy another) is that he suggested getting a larger drum so I went for a 9kg one instead of normal 8. It does indeed wash 9kg loads but they are the 3+ hour cycles. The other cycles are 4kg. So my choice is really light load for 1.5 h or big load for 3.5h. I miss my old, more bog standard Bosch !

comfortablyfrumpy · 13/11/2022 09:32

I would havd a Miele if I had the £

But I don't, so Bosch. Its predecessor was a Bosch which did 12 years including years of nappy washes.

Current one is 8 years I think. Some of the standard washes are v long but I use the speed button, which makes them much quicker. The wash cycle I use lost often is under an hour.

user1471538283 · 13/11/2022 10:02

Ive tried them all and none have lasted.

We have Beko appliances here and honestly they are brilliant and a good price. When we move I'm buying some!

NeedWineNow · 13/11/2022 10:04

I've got Indesit which we've had for about 10 years I think. Still going strong (hopefully not jinxed it by saying that!). It's got a 30 degree quick cycle which takes 50 mins which is what I use. Various adjustable cycles and a 10 mins rinse and spin. I like it.

Theoldwoman · 13/11/2022 10:08

I have a Miele so it might not be the answer you were looking for.

crossstitchingnana · 13/11/2022 10:10

I seem to have good fortune with washing machines (well, jinxed it now!) I have had Hotpoints that cost £250 and lasted 12 years, even washing terri nappies.

I had a £200 Zanussi, didn't particularly think it a good machine but it lasted 10 years.

Now I have eco bubble and I love it. Only had it 18 months but very, very impressed. I hope it lasts though as I paid £500 for it. Btw you can turn the finished tune off.

We were torn between eco bubble or a cheap Beko. I had a fridge freezer of theirs that lasted 20 years.

whirlyhead · 13/11/2022 10:12

18 year old Miele here. I love it. Never put a foot wrong. However I don’t think they make them as well as they used to.

Beachhutnut · 13/11/2022 10:14

Buy a Miele if you can. My mil has one that's lasted over 20 years and counting. I always go for Bosch.

ghostsandpumpkinsalready · 13/11/2022 10:20

I've just bought a candy smart washer 9kg .it's amazing and I've never bought candy products before. 250 pounds from Argos
