Do you think it's weird or not that christmas tree baubles literally come in every possible variation these days?

I was looking earlier. I wonder who buys the bag-of-chips bauble or the wrench-tool bauble or the head-of-broccoli bauble? Do you like weird & wacky xmas decs?

Well I don't think I'd buy the ones you describe necessarily, but I do have a lot of odd ones, because I collect them from holidays.

I have 'pair of clogs' and 'dodo in a Christmas hat' and 'Eiffel tower' and 'glass sloth' among many others.

Threadkillacilla · 11/11/2022 19:59

I don't like to have any two the same but some are so niche now they wouldn't even make my tree.

WhyOY · 11/11/2022 19:59

There seems to be an "in animal" we've had sloths, llamas, flamingos. Not sure what is the current animal.of choice.

My mum does that, its a lovely idea

Snoops123 · 11/11/2022 20:00

That would be me haha. I’ve gathered so many over the years but my favourites are the dinosaur, giraffe, ice cream and dung beetle 😂😂. They are all glittery and sparkley though haha. We obviously have some ‘normal’ ones too and all the kids creations - I love our tree!

NukaColaQuantum · 11/11/2022 20:00

Meh, I bought Pickle Rick from Typo for my tree this year. I have one in my bedroom that is a combination of my Great Grandmothers glass baubles and my weird AF ones.

octoegg · 11/11/2022 20:01

Yep, I'm still confused who buys the Poundland lorry baubles Confused

haveyourcakeandeatit · 11/11/2022 20:01

Yes, John Lewis do some weird ones.

Spudlet · 11/11/2022 20:03

I have a Brussels Sprout in a Santa hat and beard… I knitted it myself when I was pregnant. DS’s name while in utero was the sprout and he was a Christmas baby, so it always makes me think of that time 😊

But that’s probably a bit weird if you don’t know the back story!

FettleOfKish · 11/11/2022 20:04

@WhyOY There's always some I've forgotten about, so every Christmas is a lovely walk down memory lane as I unpack them Smile

They take some tracking down at times though, especially mid-summer. A few of them are actually key-rings with the metal bit changed for ribbon.

OES1 · 11/11/2022 20:04

My favourite tree decoration is a little Cornish pasty in a Santa hat. He makes me smile.

I’m with you though, OP. I was in a shop yesterday and they had lots of different fish in bauble format. Those baubles with the kind of iridescent glaze are very much in and I’ve never seen them on an actual Christmas tree, only in shops.

Probably not describing them very well, but this kind of thing.

I bloody love it. LOVE IT.
We go to the big garden centre and we all choose a new bauble each year. I hope to eventually replace my generic argos multipack baubles with random ones my children have chosen and homemade ones. Perfection in chaos.

XenoBitch · 11/11/2022 20:06

There is a big garden centre not far from where I live, that has a massive over the top xmas display. There is every variety of bauble you can think of. Sea creature ones, dinosaurs, birds etc. All the things.

Yes thats what mum has done. One year it was a pair of earrings!

WaddleAway · 11/11/2022 20:07

I bought a t-Rex in a Santa hat bauble today. We all choose a new one each every year. 3 year old chose the t-rex today, 7 year old chose a sloth and 9 year old chose a golden snitch. I love having an eclectic mix, and that each year they choose one that suits their current interests.

Zwellers · 11/11/2022 20:07

OES1 could you tell me which shop the fish baubles were?. Have an aquarist relative who would love one!

WhyOY · 11/11/2022 20:08

I think the random decorations work well if it's just one or two new ones a year. Not a whole set of eg. Sea life on one tree. Then each year has a different bizarre ornament.

Glendaruel · 11/11/2022 20:14

Novelty baubles are nothing new. Worst example I've seen was a museum in Berlin with a Christmas tree from during the war with Nazi baubles. A real 'peace on earth, goodwill to all men' moment.

Houselamp · 11/11/2022 20:19

Our tree is like that, the ornaments are mostly hideous as they are all random ones that the kids made or chose over the years.
We have a few dinosaurs, a walrus in a santa hat, a ghost, a thing that looks like a glittery potato and a triangle of cheese amoung others. They are all small enough that you don't even notice until you get close as it all looks nice with lights on

PaniniHead · 11/11/2022 20:20

George Asda have some interesting ones this year- direct.asda.com/george/christmas/christmas-trees/christmas-decorations/D18M2G1C2,default,sc.html

DillDanding · 11/11/2022 20:23

I’m an inveterate snob over my own tasteful decs, but I quite like a tacky mish-mash when I see it on someone else’s home.

Zrt · 11/11/2022 20:24

You win @Snoops123 with your glittery dung beetle!Grin

Meceme · 11/11/2022 20:25

We have a fabulous storm trooper on our tree.

Zrt · 11/11/2022 20:25

What I didn't say is that I was wondering if they'll be collector's items in years to come like we collect vintage things now.

WhyOY · 11/11/2022 20:27

There were the 2020 covid baubles they were weird
