Do you think it's weird or not that christmas tree baubles literally come in every possible variation these days?

I was looking earlier. I wonder who buys the bag-of-chips bauble or the wrench-tool bauble or the head-of-broccoli bauble? Do you like weird & wacky xmas decs?

I’ve decided to embrace the random assortment look, we pick a decoration to help sum up the year, so the year we bought our house we got a house, the year we got married we have bride and groom birds, 2021 we have a gingerbread man holding a syringe 😆. This year I want something garden themed like a nice watering can but I can’t find one. The toddler has picked his own glittery cartoon monstrosity from John Lewis and it will go pride of place on the tree.

My favourite of these is 'Crocodile in tutu holding coconut'!!!

pointythings · 11/11/2022 20:32

I love the crazy baubles. We have a flying pig and a sparkly hammerhead shark amongst many others, They all have memories attached.

My entire tree is made up of wacky glass baubles and I wouldn't have it any other way. I've got a pirate Santa riding on the shells of two sea turtles, a pinball machine, a shark in a tuxedo, a flamingo riding a floaty, skiing dogs.... I love them. LOVE! My tree also rotates so is extra awesome and means all the baubles get appreciated. paper chase have some great ones, as do tk max.

I got this beaut the other day.

I used to have the standard warm white fairy lights with set colour baubles each year.
Then we moved into military housing, now the walls have to be magnolia, can't change the carpets or hang photos on the wall...

So we go all out with Xmas decorations now, coloured lights, tinsel, glittery ornaments, mismatched baubles, even crackers on the tree... the tackier the better for us.

It's the one time year that we can "decorate" however we want & I absolutely love it being over the top.

Even my grumpy teenage DD loves picking out the brightest and ugliest decorations, it's become a tradition. 🎄

PaniniHead · 11/11/2022 20:36

Was eyeing that one up too! So tacky that it’s actually pretty amazing

For garden-themed baubles, try the RHS website - they have some.

Flapjackquack · 11/11/2022 21:04

@EndlessMagpies - thank you, I hadn’t thought of that, off to google!

noodlezoodle · 11/11/2022 22:50

It's me. I buy them. We have an extremely random set of decorations built up over about 10 years. I used to have a nicely colour coordinated tree but this is much more interesting plus it makes me smile.

Vetoncall · 11/11/2022 23:03

I buy all the dinosaur ones, I cant resist anything dinosaur themed 😄

Brigante9 · 11/11/2022 23:10

I only have really boring silver and red baubles, plus a silver bauble with all the pets' names on them, including those no longer with us, bit morbid, but a lovely reminder.

redpickle · 12/11/2022 08:34

We get a real tree every year and that has all the baubles we've collected over the years. We always get one when we travel. We always try to get one that sums the year up and I write the year on the bottom to remember. This year we moved house and have been doing renovations so I have the John Lewis tool box bauble! (They also have some garden themed decs this year).

redpickle · 12/11/2022 08:41

@Flapjackquack Sass and Bell have some lovely watering can baubles Grin

Filleto · 12/11/2022 08:55

My children get a new one every year in their stocking, started off as traditional but now generally reflect their current interests. So my eldest is getting a sushi one this year. I also buy one for dp every year and generally go for as tacky as possible.

glamourousindierockandroll · 12/11/2022 09:11

I can understand some of them because I have always tried to buy a bauble or decoration each year that represents something from that year. E.g a golden key when we bought out house.

However, last year I made my annual pilgrimage to John Lewis and came out empty handed. There was so much that was neon coloured or wacky that I struggled to find anything worth the price.

I bloody love it. LOVE IT.
We go to the big garden centre and we all choose a new bauble each year. I hope to eventually replace my generic argos multipack baubles with random ones my children have chosen and homemade ones. Perfection in chaos.

This is what I'm doing.

We each choose a new one every year. DS1 favours the garish blingy ones. One memorable one is a sparkly glass chandelier!
I got a wooden mouse in a Santa hat from the Bath Christmas Market a few years ago and he's still one of my favourites. I also bought a glass cat one from a colleague who makes them a couple of years ago.
DS2 chose a dinosaur in a Christmas hat one year and a strawberry another time.

I'm going to the Christmas markets in Munich in a couple of weeks and I'm looking forward to picking one up from there.

I love the idea of buying them on travels and replacing a keyring with ribbon. Inspired! We collect fridge magnets on ours, but I think I may steal this idea too.

Alsonification · 12/11/2022 09:22

A friend of mine has a gigantic 9ft tree & every year one side is decorated beautifully with mostly Disney related decorations. Really Christmassy, and the other side they call the dark side & it's completely full of the most hideous decorations they can find. They add to both sides every year. It's fab!

popandchoc · 12/11/2022 09:26

Each year me and the kids pick a new ornament each so we do have a random
assortment including a donut and this year I got a flamingo .

icebearforpresident · 12/11/2022 09:27

We ‘recycled’ the plastic rings that used to come on fairy cakes from Greggs and put them on the tree. Safe to say, my tree has the ‘colourblind 4 year old was in charge of decorating’ look rather that Pinterest perfect.

The dinosaur in a tutu bauble I bought yesterday will fit right in.

DesignerRecliner · 12/11/2022 09:27

Who buys this shite Hmm

ChateauMargaux · 12/11/2022 09:32

We live abroad and don't see this Christmas madness near us... we had so much fun in Liberty at half term wondering who would buy a Glue Gun or a lawnmower as a Christmas decoration.. ..

Wallabyone · 12/11/2022 09:36

Me! I buy 'this shite'!

We have collected some beautiful (to me) kitsch decorations over the years and we love them. We all choose a new one each year, and it's so lovely opening the boxes with our three children each year and seeing them all again.
